  1. Toledo has a strong attendance base because of its Women's basketball fan club (The Lady Rocket Fan Club) which is atleast 1,000-1500 strong. Granted, Toledo is a large enough city to which you should be able to draw 2-3,000 per night. Having a new arena helps but UT has always averaged near 2,000 per home game since the mid 90's. Of course, back then Toledo and Can't St were the best teams in the conference. If Akron can find a way to build its program into a consistent 18-20 win season and find a way to build on AK-Rowdies for the women's games, then I think you will eventually find more community support. I was impressed with your team in Toledo. Your post players (#32 and #44) were top notch.
  2. No excuses here...Toledo football looks pretty damn bad right now. Hate to say it, but it's not that surprising to see stuff like this happen under Amstutz's watch. Not advocating his firing or that he runs a dirty program, but these type of incidents are definitely not new.
  3. Zips Fans,I know we've had our differences before, but I am in agreement with most MAC fans that you guys indeed were snubbed from post-season play.Although my allegiance is firmly with Toledo, I take great pride in being an ambassador for the MAC. Although many are upset now with Rick Chryst, and the Director of Basketball Operations, this conference is still one damn good collection of universities, and I think you would agree with me that competition for success here is as good as anywhere else in the country.Having said that, it's a shame the national perception is rather unfavorable to our conference. It seems as though every year someone gets screwed out of post-season play, whether that'd be football or basketball. It's not fair, it's not right, but until we consistently beat these "BCS" schools, it's not going to change.Yes, you guys deserve to be in NIT and possibly a NCAA bid over a Purdue, Georgia Tech, or a Boston College type team. I know 20 wins in the ACC, Big Ten, or SEC is a big deal but it's just not right.Regardless, please root for Miami (Oh) and Toledo in their post-season games. The only way our conference gets better is for us to go out their a continually pull-off upsets. Beating good teams will raise awareness. Finally, I look forward to next season and I know the Zips will be right there at the top of the conference. My cousin's husband coaches at Can't State and I get free tickets there periodically. I will admit that all three times you guys played Can't, I had to root for Akron, it just made more sense. So, let's do everyone a favor and have multiple MAC teams over .500 heading into conference play with many wins over BCS schools. This conference can get 2-3 teams in the tournament if it takes care of business in November and December.
  4. I want an Akron/Toledo final on Saturday but the thought of playing you guys again scares the sh*t out of me.
  5. With the way our offense has been playing, as long as you guys hit 7 points, you'd probably win in Toledo.
  6. Honestly, I never thought Bruce would make it this far up in such a small amount of time. A 6th round pick shouldn't be starting in week 5. That is really unheard of in the NFL. I expect him to struggle throughout the game and perhaps the next few thereafter, but I believe that he has the tools to be a successful NFL QB, not necessarily a Pro Bowler. I hope he succeeds as does Charlie Fyre, who has shown signs of greatness, but is playing behind such a bad offensive line that we will never get a firm grasp of his capabilities until someone in Cleveland finally gets their head out of their a$$ and realizes that you can't win squat without some stability in the trenches. (my Browns rant for the day )
  7. Nothing beats an 80 year old running to safety...
  8. I was asked to go, but I'm heading to Pitt to see Toledo play. If the game is on Fox Sports, I might be able to pick it up after the game.
  9. Alright, I finally made it to my first game at the Rubber Bowl. A few guys from the history department tagged along and our initial thoughts was that this was a glorified high school game. I know that will upset plenty of you, but it's not really Akron's fault. North Texas was a horrible opponent, absolutely bad. Throw in a small and dead crowd, a few thousand students, and that's why it felt like 2 high school teams were going at each other. I hope Akron gets a stadium on campus in the next 5 years because having our conference champs playing in front of that small of a crowd is embarassing for the conference. Sorry if that upsets several of you, and I wish there was a quick solution to this problem. The game was not all that bad but North Texas really sucked and Akron's lack of effort in the 2nd half only made things worse. Throw in 2 blocked punts, a missed 24 yd FG and 2 extra points, and this game certainly was not one I'd rank in my top 10. I wish Akron the best of luck the rest of the way except for that date in Toledo.
  10. Dude, your offense sucked and your coaching staff is not much better.
  11. You guys have a star coach on the horizon and already I see "Fire..." posts??? Even if their serious or not, that is just ludicrous. You can't win every game in the MAC, including on the road.
  12. CMU will be a factor in the West.Zips 24CMU 28
  13. The Saints failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Hence, they are not a good team.
  14. It's amazing how people notice you with your university stuff on after a big football or basketball win. But, then reality hits you back when your team gets beat by 60 to Kansas and Minnesota or plays so poorly in the MCB...
  15. The problem is that we hold on to our "loyalties" and overlook "reality"
  16. Charlie didn't look good. Granted, some receivers dropped a few balls and the O-line was beyond horrible, but Fyre still has to prove himself that he is starting material.
  17. The coaching staff and players were looking ahead to Kansas, although they'll never admit it.Such a disappointment.
  18. The MAC will never get a 2nd bid into the tourney unless that team is close to 30 wins.
  19. Well, I certainly hope you beat that 3-9 team.
  20. Toledo has "The Rocket store" run by a few loyal fans. Althought not necessarily profitsble, it gives us fans an opportunity to buy products that otherwise may not be available through the university.
  21. Never saw never with the MAC but if Penn St falls that low to be put in the MCB bowl, they may even skip it.In all seriousness, it may be a good matchup as both teams will have worked out all the kinks by then. If Penn St. establishes a ground game, it would be a blowout, but if the Akron defense can slow down the Lions attack, Akron would have a good chance.
  22. First, Getsy has to great drafted...
  23. I don't know about being better than Iowa St. Nor do i think we controlled the game. We lost some opportunities and got hosed on a few calls but the problem is that we didn't execute when we needed too the most, such as the possession with 2 min left on their 45 yd line. That was the game there.I'm glad we got ISU's respect. I just hope we get them back next season in our house.
  24. While I am glad we had a good showing on the road against a BCS opponent, we had the Cyclones at their 45 yard line, 3 min left in regulation with all the momentum in the world. And we could not capitalize on it.It's frustrating...
  25. My predictions:From the heart: Zips 27 PSU 24From the brain: PSU 35 Zips 21
