  1. The guy got off easy but has supposedly turned his life around, enrolled at Toledo, and beginning to earn a degree. Amstutz is giving this guy a chance. He is not guaranteed a spot on the football team nor is he expected to make any contribution. The guy was a former Mr. Football in Ohio, but in reality Toledo is already loaded at RB and doesn't really need him.Still, the story of a former convict trying out for the team does not help Toledo's image. But if this guy gets his life straightened out, makes the team, and is as good as advertised, he may bring Toledo and the MAC to a different spotlight in NCAA football.
  2. That could have been donw without caps lock on.
  3. You guys should have immediately ignored this topic. He wanted to stir the pot and by God, he was successful in doing that.
  4. At least you guys didn't lose to Detroit!
  5. I hope you are in reference to basketball
  6. In a seriousness, I'd be surprised if he is picked in the 5tgh round. I think he is a late 2nd day pick at best.
  7. The game against Dennison was bad enough.
  8. The same is happening in Toledo and it has created some light buzz. I agree that this remains an interesting topic and I hope Akron, Toledo, and a few more MAC schools (just not Can't or BG ) get a look by the Big East 5 years down the road.
  9. Akron needs to win a few more MAC titles and bowl games, before they start worrying about the Big East.
  10. But in general MAC teams don't play consistently in front of big crowds. By "big crowds," I mean around the 8-10,000 mark.
  11. The arena looked pretty empty last night on Fox Sports. You would think that the ABJ article would have boosted attendance somewhat.
  12. I agree to a point but earlier this year I invited my Dad to a game against Toledo in Akron. He asked about ticket prices, and I replied $12 per person. He said no. Granted, my parents are frugal, but I bet he isn't the only one not going because of prices. Now, if Akron was hosting a big name opponent, that would be a different story.
  13. No you actually DO want those people there for no other reason than spending money on tickets and concessions. Getting students there is great, but the general public is where the money is at.Speaking of students, the Ak-Rowdies needs to do something to get students there. Litter the campus with flyers saying that if you come, you'll get a free AK-Rowdie t-shirt, or something along those lines. It worked for Toledo at times. Also, lower GA prices. Let it be known that you can get a $5 ticket to a game. I bet you could draw an additional 1,000 if people knew tickets were only $5.
  14. I couldn't agree more. Shuting this guy up would take a MAc title and nothing less.
  15. But are smart enough to fudge up attendance numbers to look better.
  16. Never trust the Huskies to do you a favor.
  17. Students don't go to the games because most don't know about it and most live off campus. The AK-Rowdies or somebody else needs to litter the campus with flyers before every home game. Students who live on campus need to be enticed to go, esepcially on school nights. As for people off campus, most don't want to stick around for a basketball game or drive back to campus after they have been home for several hours. Free or not, students are not going to go unless Zips basketball becomes the "thing to do" on campus.
  18. But his point on attendance is dead on.
  19. Sorry, forgot about the return trip. Still, unless you are on both networks, is it really worth it?
  20. Again, the Bracket Buster only serves its purpose if you get a tv spot on a major network (i.e. ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN Classic, or CBS)ESPN U doesn't cut it for me. Traveling to Nevada for a game on ESPN would have been worth it. But for ESPN U, it is not worth the time, money, or limited exposure. This is another reason why the BraCKET Buster needs to be either revamped or dropped all together. Either have 6-8 mid major schools on both ESPN networks and everyone else not play or drop the whole thing. Playing on ESPN U, ESPN 360 or Full Court is not worth the time and money where the exposure is often minimal.
  21. Toledo dominated on both sides of the ball. And Can't shot poorly. Good win for my Rockets!
  22. I guess Can't didn't show up to play last night. Then again, Toledo did surprisingly play well on both sides of the ball.
  23. I thought it was a good read but I agree with Zippy 989 in that if you treat the MAC as 2nd class, then the community will as well.Still, I think it is a bit embarassing that a team like the Zips averages slightly over 3,000 fans a game. Something needs to be done about this.
  24. It's odd to see that Toledo draws more than Can't and Akron. Both of these 2 schools need to find ways to get more butts in the seats.
