  1. I voted for Nate Linhart. He had a combination of skills that made him unique. Good all around talent and a great leader.
  2. No argument. It goes both ways though.
  3. Not surprising. I doubt that he is as concerned about what some members of ZN.o say about him, as much as what they say about his team mates and members of the coaching staff. I know some would say he needs to get a thicker skin or something of the sort but he is only human. But hey what do I know. I've already admitted that I see the world through blue and gold colored glasses. Win, lose or draw I will back the team. YMMV
  4. All I can say is wow! Prayers to the Bowden family and to the Zips football family.
  5. He's a good AAU coach. He excels at STVM because he can recruit when most of the competition can't. He has the LBJ connection that comes with being at STVM. The only way he would be able to win at UA would be if the LBJ connection followed him. LBJ is loyal to STVM, not UA.
  6. Terrible news. We will be praying for his family. Here's a link to the local story. Former UNA assistant coach Alan Arrington dies in crash
  7. Jake Kretzer is the second best defender on the team after Q. He has been assigned to cover the other teams best forward in almost every game. He pretty much shutdown Juan Howard in the second half on Wednesday. Same thing against Cleveland State. http://www.gozips.com/sports/mbkb/2013-14/...2.xml?view=box1
  8. I would expect that Kwan will see time on the court when he proves to the coaching staff that he knows where to be on defense and when he knows the plays on offense. Based on what I'v seen in games and practice, he's not quite there yet. Yes he is 6'10" and has lots of potential, but you still have to perform when its crunch time. He did get quite a bit of PT against Bethune-Cookman and I would say the the results were mixed. I would say that offensively he has looked OK. But he still needs to work on his defense. Another way to look at it he has played 20 minutes more than Jackson or Gladden, so that must mean something, Right?
  9. Q is now an official graduate of the University of Akron. All his hard work last season to stay eligible was worth it. Congrats Q!
  10. Looked like he was taking notes too. Based on the last few weeks, maybe he should have stuck with basketball. Football hasn't been working out to good for him.
  11. Probably on my parents couch listening to the radio broadcast with my father. That game was at Detroit so I wasn't there.
  12. Akron Zips Preview
  13. Bortles reminds of a certain guy from a midmajor who has done pretty well in the NFL. Big Ben
  14. Hey JZ, I'm sure he thought Tom Brady sucked while he was at Michigan too.
  15. A more likely scenario would be for the Browns to trade the first round pick they obtained from Indy for someone like Kirk Cousins and use their own pick on a DB or running back.
  16. The second half was nothing more than a glorified practice. Lots of different combinations and players looking for some PT. Diggs only played 19 minutes, most of them in the first half. I don't fault the players for struggling to keep their focus when it was obvious we could have blown these guys out by 50 if we had kept the pedal to the metal. I think Melo is slowly playing himself out of the rotation. Late in the second half, KD almost inserted Ricardo Hill into the lineup before he thought better of it.
  17. In case you missed the news last night, Coach Dan Peters has taken a leave of absense from the Zips Mens Basketball Team. Dan is battling pancreatic cancer and will start his treatment on Monday. 4 Petes Sake Please Keep Dan and his family in your prayers as he battles this deadly disease. The team has dedicated this season to him and will be wearing patches on their uniforms to show their support. Dan was planning on retiring after this season. Steve McNees will assume his duties for the foreseeable future.
  18. All this news does is reaffirm my decision not to attend. I prefer my basketball to not be mixed in with a political rally.
  19. It does appear that the skids are being greased.
  20. The only time I ever visited Phoenix it snowed while I was there. The locals thought it was great but I was pissed because the golf course I was supposed to play was closed due to the weather.
  21. I was more than a little surprised when Coach played Kwan burning his redshirt in the process. Just like DIG said, Kwan needs to work on defense and not making dumb fouls in practice to see more playing time. The season is just getting underway and I'm sure there will be opportunities for KC to get some PT if he works hard in practice.
  22. I loved that pass. He bounced it right between the legs of the defender. Too bad Harney blew the wide open layup.
  23. What you saw was 3 weeks of working on some new offensive sets. I thought the movement without the ball was much better. Horns Offense
