An early double digit lead! It’s over! “We want Wil-son!!” -

We played like it was a 1pm game in Oxford, and Miami played like there were the hungry underdog trying to knock off the first place team. OU gave us the same effort...they were just on the road, with less talent. We can bank on Ali, Tribble and Enrique on any given night. The rest? Hit and miss. Our guard play has come a long way since November, but still has a ways to go.

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans

I don't recall and crucifixion's? Those usually stand out. Akron basketball "wins", and the arena is typically half full for reasonable opponents ("Reasonable" = OU, not Miami-Hamilton). It is completely full for Kent, and there are usually one or two other home games where there's 4k in the house. For our Rocket Mortgage Championship games, there are roughly 7k+ Zips basketball fans in attendance. Drawing a parallel to football - If, like the basketball team, the Zips football team won 70% of their games and was in a MAC championship game once ever 2-3 years, most people expect InfoCison would be 1/2 full, just like the JAR. Attendance would be 20k+ for Kent. And if a winning Zips team met a winning Toledo team on a November Saturday for a berth in the MAC Championship at InfoCision, there would be roughly 20K fans expected. The winning basketball team draws fine for mid-winter, weeknight NE Ohio games. Half-full arena. If the Zips football team won at an equivalent clip, the ratio would apply for InfoCision too. An average of 12-13k fans in attendance (butts in seats, not fabricated tickets sold). I hope Moorhead can prove me right one day. -
It's amazing...if you don't get playing time, you transfer. If you have great freshman and sophomore years, you transfer to a P5. If you've played 4 years, you transfer because you don't want to waste your grad transfer year. How do you get someone to stay in your program for more than a couple years? I don't think it's possible anymore. You just annually build a team with a handful of freshmen, and a slew of portal and JUCO "soldiers of fortune", and see how it shakes out.

Can't wait for an upcoming The Athletic click bait: "JD Brookhart, who left Akron after a 3-9 season, and who's been out of coaching for 15 years, to be hired as Akron's next HC". Moorhead isn't going anywhere in 2024, but bloggers will tie his name to every available OC opening. And it works...I'm sure they are getting their precious clicks as people eagerly share their phony baloney speculation.

Brookhart brought a lot of good JUCO WR's to Akron during his first go-around. Deryn Bowser and Jeremy LaFrance come to mind. He also got David Harvey for 1 year (5-star Frosh. from Penn Hills with mad skills, and no desire to go to class). Worked with Antonio Bryant and Larry Fitzgerald at Pitt. Guy knows elite WR's.

Lots of discussion on this topic in the game thread.

He was GREAT last night. Came out of nowhere.

The next rule the NCAA may throw by the wayside is eligibility expiration. I predict, starting in 2027, you’ll be able to play as many years as you’d like as long as you’re in school. Mid-season transfers with immediate eligibility will also become the norm.

Knowing Tavari, the lack of any reaction from Sullinger, and my lip reading expertise, I believe he said “And one” after the ball went it. Similarly, I’ll wager Ali said “You can’t stop me” while turning to run down the floor. In each instance the refs got rabbit ears after a huge Zips play and were looking to blow a whistle to diffuse any possible flare up. To me, the moment of a packed house rivalry game was too big for them. Their desire to control the game snuffed out two of the biggest momentum plays the Zips produced last night. Glad we were tough enough to overcome.

81. We led the entire game and we’re the more talented team by a long shot. Love how Tavari stepped up.

Game 17- Western Michigan

There's 27 minutes per game up for grabs over the next 6 weeks due to Nate's injury. We'll see if he takes advantage of his share. If this team is going to do something special in March he's the X factor that's got the potential to torch P5 teams who decide to focus on Ali and Freeman. Speaking of Ali - he actually played like he wanted to take over the game in the last 7 minutes. Dawson's steal lit a fire under him. I want to see that angry, aggressive Ali for the remainder of this season. -
I think a lot of players see it as a chance to "study abroad". They can get a graduate diploma from a second school...get a change of scenery...experience a different culture. Let's face it - Ronan Chambers has lost a lot of football games in his college career. Like 90% of them. Why not take your NCAA "Grad Transfer Get Out of Jail Free" card to see what else is out there? If it doesn't work out...you have your UA Bachelors degree...and off you go into the real world.

Do this, but for Freeman.
