  1. ZipsNation - congrats to all!
  2. From what I've read, Moorhead was given credit for the OSUcks win, and Cristobal was given credit for the lame-duck (pun intended) performances against Utah in recent weeks.
  3. Injuries at WR... Good analogy. Could we see a change at QB? Possibly one that might follow Moorhead?
  4. Another mention of Moorhead to Akron by Herbstreit in the second half. The camera then showed Moorhead looking down at his notes. Couldn't quite tell, but I thought I saw "Guys to bring with me to Akron... Brown - No... Reasons I'm happy to be going back home to Akron... This $%#@ show is exhibit A..." Side note: Still amazes me that the commentary crew for our 2005 MAC Title was Mike Tirico, Kirk Herbstreit, and Erin Andrews.
  5. Oregon's personnel is interesting compared to what Moorhead has had success with in the past. Slim, speedy guys (typical Oregon) vs. bigger frames on Midwest/East Coast guys like he had at Penn State. I wonder if he'll find some sort of combination to recruit at Akron, or if he prefers one over the other.
  6. Maybe Oregon with their contract extension for Cristobal. The whole team looks flat. By the way, note to self: do not target Boston College transfer QBs. Both Oregon's and BG's transfers from Boston College are not impressive.
  7. 15 minutes until the Oregon game. This will be fun. Go Ducks!
  8. Awful article title. There's a consensus on both sides... - Moorhead is a darn good coach who was expected to go P5 - Akron has sucked
  9. From what I've heard, the excitement surrounding this hire extends beyond ZipsNation.org. I posted in the What Does Progress Look Like thread that 6 wins minimum next year is my expectation. Aside from his own quick turnaround at Fordham, here is some of what I based my 6-win expectation on... "If you look at some of the top Head Coaches (Meyer, Kelly, Solich, Campbell, Fleck) in the last 2 decades in the MAC, by year 2 they were all winning a minimum of 6 games. The delay in achieving a minimum of 6 wins was presumably due to 1) transfers having to sit a year and 2) waiting on the first recruiting class. None of those guys had a track record like Moorhead coming into the MAC, and Moorhead doesn't have to wait a year for first-time transfers to make an impact on the field. I expect an accelerated turnaround based on these factors." As @LoyalZIP mentioned, Moorhead was one of the hottest names in the country by the end of his two-year tenure in Happy Valley. His offense was a well-oiled machine that propelled Saquon Barkley to a top 5 NFL draft pick. While researching Moorhead this week, I came across a few articles from Moorhead's time at PSU that raised the question if Moorhead saved James Franklin's job. Franklin's record prior to Moorhead was 14-13 (.519 winning %). With Moorhead, he went 22-5 (.814). After Moorhead left, PSU has gone 31-16 (.660). Other articles talked about this season in Oregon, how he was the one with the game plan to beat Ohio State, and how - via close ties to Michigan coaches - a very similar game plan was used by Michigan to beat Ohio State. He yet again has one of the top offenses in the country at Oregon, similar to his tenure at PSU. Even some Mississippi State fans regret firing him. Tempered expectations are somewhat understandable, but any lack of excitement is due to a person being ill-informed or they possess a pessimistic nature. Akron will have a better coach (on paper, and most likely backed up on the field) than 80-90% of P5 programs. This is a bigger hire than Meyer, Kelly, Campbell, and Fleck because those guys were made at their respective MAC schools. This is on par with Solich, as both he and Moorhead were sculpted by the cream of the crop P5 at their respective time periods, although Moorhead is quite a bit younger than Solich at the time of his hire into the MAC. I am genuinely excited to root for the Ducks tonight and watch what will hopefully be a carbon copy of what we get to witness at InfoCision Stadium under Moorhead. We are going to be part of the conversation on National TV, too. The Info is going to be rocking for at least the next few years. Go Zips!
  10. Hate the opinion-portion of the article ("That's still no way to win over a team"), but this is amazing. Hats off to this coach.
  11. That was under the old transfer rules, and the mid-season transfer counted as his "sit-out" year, correct?
  12. Can a player transfer in-season and play for another team during that same season, under the new transfer rules? If so, I wonder if we'll look to add anyone since it's so early in the year. If not, I'd be ok burning a redshirt on one of the freshman guards to get a hopeful scoring boost.
  13. Fordham was 1-10 before Moorhead took over. His first year: 6-5. With the transfer portal being wide open, I expect a significant influx of talent that is on par with the top of the MAC at the very least, if not superior. We can offer several things many programs - especially G5 - can't... 1) Upper-echelon P5-caliber coaching 2A) Instant Playing Time/Starting Position 2B) Turn heads of NFL Scouts If you look at some of the top Head Coaches (Meyer, Kelly, Solich, Campbell, Fleck) in the last 2 decades in the MAC, by year 2 they were all winning a minimum of 6 games. I expect an accelerated turnaround based on these factors. Don't be surprised if MSU, Tennessee, and Liberty are closer than expected. Moorhead is the caliber of coach that can out-scheme nearly any opposing team.
  14. Based on the expected hire of Moorhead, I'm expecting 6 wins minimum.
  15. As lucky as Groce & Co. are for finding him, they deserve equal credit for developing him.
  16. Look at Moorhead - already making Akron's offense better! What a game! Heck of an effort, well coached by Groce.
  17. Freeman is special.
  18. Exactly the type of transfer that could follow Moorhead here. Home, PAC12 familiarity, stud.
  19. If there's this significant of a financial commitment to the football program, I wonder if NIL money will follow to help get some otherwise un-gettable recruits to come to Akron.
  20. They seem to be ignorant and in denial of the magnitude of this hire. Meanwhile, per the MAC board... mufanatehc "A bigtime hire for Akron. Hopefully he can get you guys turned around."
  21. I'd imagine Adam & Co. in the ticket office are going to be very busy in the coming months. Akron has a better HC than 80-90% of the P5 schools. That's special and worth celebrating/rewarding.
  22. During the past 3 days of refreshing the "latest" for a Joe Moorhead search on Twitter, someone mentioned he is close with either Harbaugh or someone else on the Michigan staff. Apparently a very similar game plan was used to beat OSUcks this past weekend. Moorhead's Game Plan: 2 Suckeyes: 0
  23. I don't think he's alone. By the sounds and looks of it, he has a partner in crime in Guthrie. This hire signals the level of which he expects Akron to be at, and it's very high.
  24. Friday night will be fun! Oregon wins, camera zooms in on Moorhead, who opens his shirt Superman style to reveal a big A-Roo logo. Go Zips!
