This could be HUGE news. Fingers crossed it all transpires how we hope it does!
-
Sounds like it was a rough game with a good close out to win by a solid 17 over a team that has a lot of fight and zero fear with it being their first DI season.
-
You spelled "pathetic" wrong. Fearless Forecast: This will be the last game of the 2019 season for the football team.

Miss Mary Mack Mack Mack All dressed in black, black, black With silver buttons, buttons, buttons All down her back, back, back. She asked her mother, mother, mother For 50 cents, cents, cents To see the elephants, elephants, elephants Jump over the fence, fence, fence. They jumped so high, high, high They reached the sky, sky, sky And they didn't come back, back, back 'Til the 4th of July, ly, ly!

This is an incredible effort. Absolutely incredible. Have to applaud the Zips squad.

Vue has the ACC Network as well. Lots of options for coverage on this game.

Our football team is in its 27th year in the MAC, and is currently winless. Why not just join and start building the tradition back up?

Sayles is the last remaining Dambrot recruit, and it shows. That's most certainly not a slam on Sayles. He was recruited for a completely different system - half court offense, half court defense, inside-out gameplan on offense, man-to-man on defense; a system I think he would have truly excelled in. Groce employs an up-and-down attack on offense, and whatever he needs to use on defense to shut down the opponent - full court press, zone, man, etc. I think Sayles is a good player that could have really developed into something had he not dealt with the injury bug. The jump from high school to DI ball is huge to begin with - size, speed, strength, pace, pressure, etc. He lost half a season his freshman year, and basically the previous 2 seasons in their entirety. The obstacles on his uphill battle include conditioning, as well as STILL adjusting to DI size/speed/strength/pace/pressure/etc. In many of those categories, he's still a freshman basically. I have always admired how he stuck around through the coaching change, and how he's always out there with the team. Speaks to the kind of person he is despite the series of unfortunate events that have taken place on the court these last few years. I think you'll see Sayles become more of a factor as the season wears on, especially during the MAC portion. He's an athletic big that I believe will find his place and get somewhat caught up in the categories I mentioned above. Wasn't his hanging-on-the-rim-induced injury a byproduct of a technical called earlier in the game on either him or someone else for hanging on the rim (I think it was him?)? Robotham is a perfect example of how injuries can derail a career. He was getting P5 transfer looks during his freshman year if I remember correctly, and probably would have departed if not for the injury. He eventually ended up going back home to play for UNLV, and had a decent finish to his career there, but nowhere near his ceiling. That kid might have been the best true basketball player this program has had as a freshman. His vision, shot, and ability to slash to the basket were unrivaled in an Akron uniform (at least as a freshman). After that injury, he always seemed timid. Glad to see a solid highlight video from the other night. Love how we're finishing at the rim. Everyone looks so smooth.

I believe he did play PG for most of his basketball career because he was a late bloomer height wise. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Admittedly I haven't been able to watch this team aside from the NCCCCCCCCCCC game, so I've missed them at their better/best. I can't add too much to what has already been said. However, as I've posted before, this team resembles the successful squads Groce had at OU - athletic, deep(er), and versatile. For the first time since Groce has taken over, we have 2 legitimate post players (Riak more-so defensively, Reece all-around), 2 legitimate PGs (LCJ & Tribble), an athletic stretch 4 (X), and multiple interchangeable parts (Cheese, Banks, Ali). This should be a very fun season, and much needed after football and soccer.

Try to be competitive in this one, but more importantly, avoid injuries. Louisville made the perfect hire in Chris Mack, and they're a good, good team. I'm expecting to get beat handily in this one.

Why the delay to join the MAC? Logistics?

Seems like it was a good win. Convincingly rolled over a regional competitor. I'll get to watch this Buffalo/UCONN game as well as the Toledo/Notre Dame game with a smile on my face. Completely forgot that UCONN's coach is Dan(?) Hurley.

In class currently. Can someone give me a synopsis of what was so good about the first half aside from the 18 pt halftime lead? Please and thank you.

Agreed, especially with taking over for LCJ at starting Point. It was pretty evident in the highlight videos and practice videos I saw from the off-season that this kid's a player. He's very fluid. I think LCJ is the perfect 6th man candidate. High-energy gnat (in a good way) that annoys the crap out of opposing players. I like LCJ - a lot. I think he's very cerebral when he SLOWS DOWN and let's the game come to him. Too often I think he goes into "hero" mode, which is the exact opposite of what his strengths are - distribution on offense and quick hands on defense. -
So it's the YSU Quisenberry's vs. the Akron Zips. Got it. Keep the effort up, and good things will happen. Out-efforting a team will make up for not shooting lights out. We have the talent to compete at the top of the MAC; establish the fundamentals early this OOC season, and we'll be in good shape. Go Zips!

The jump shots are a head scratching to say the least, as in today's game, it's not like everyone on the floor didn't come up through AAU which promotes nothing but shooting. Interested to see in year 3 how Groce corrects that continuous problem. The free throw shooting shouldn't be a surprise. Since the day Groce took over, he has emphasized the fundamentals, and we've seen consistent FT shooting for the most part these past couple seasons. -

A win is a win. NCC didn't give up as I expected with their tourney experience. Our shooting HAS to improve, but I like our defense and pace of play. We also need to finish around the rim better. -

To say the least. The effort and pace are still there, though, which is nice to see. We aren't becoming stagnant. -

Taylor Currie is a very fluid, versatile 4 that stretches the floor. Here are his HS rankings when he committed to Wisconsin. He also had offers from Michigan and Xavier. Some of his highlights from 2017. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Garvin is going to be a true freshman, and has been turning heads for the past year or 2. Multiple Cleveland-area articles on his rise. Here are his recruiting rankings according to 247Sports. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Groce was at O-Who, he ran a guard-based, athletic front court system. His "bigs" were more stretch 4s, and his guards were all combo guards. Kellogg & Cooper ran the back court, Keely & Baltic ran the front court; that system got them 3 tourney wins. That is what this team is starting to look like. Athleticism at each position, and matchup nightmares. These 2 guys fit the mold perfectly I think.
