NCAA Tournament Seeding
meatwad replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
ACC: Virginia 1, NC State 0Will Bates scored the winner and Diego Restrepo recorded the shutout in goal for the Cavaliers.Anybody remember Diego? Former USF netminder... double barreled bird flipping to the fans after they beat us at Lee Jackson field a few years ago. Would be very fun to meet him in the finals. Of course I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. -

Ummm, I'm baffled... maybe Butler doesn't have a regulation size field????You might be onto it. Apparently they play homes games in the "Butler Bowl", an ancient (built in 1928) multi-purpose facility in Indy that is home to both the Bulldog Football and Soccer teams. It seems very likely that the soccer pitch dimensions would be restricted by a structure this old. It's interesting that Butler got in as an at-large, losing the Horizon championship to Green Bay. Butler already owns a 2-1 victory over the Hoosiers IN Bloomington. Butler Bowl WikiAh, check this picture out (best I could find). Notice how close the soccer lines are to the football lines. I think I guessed correctly right off the bat... -

They had an RPI in the top 20. Their record was not great, but they played a heck of a schedule. Plus they are in the Big 10 so that didn't hurt. -

That's why he is a college soccer analyst on ESPNews. Clearly he was making things up. -

We beat them fairly handily in a scrimmage. Not too worried about them. It's a good draw overall I think. Can't believe OSU got a 4 seed?!?! We destroyed them. -

It's a great day to be a Zips soccer fan. conspiracy theories go down in flames. #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Looked good to me still as of last game. The students jumping around in the 18 of the hill side sure won't help that area though. Overall, it's been pretty warm lately which helps a lot. Should be in good shape.

Gozips, are you willing to put money on that statement?I have a friend who knows absolutely nothing about soccer. Even he knows the Zips will get a #1 seed. How can the #1 team in the country not be a #1 seed?Ha. Are you joking? Because the rankings mean nothing to the committee that makes the selections. My 2 cents though is that the Zips are your #1 seed. It would be a travesty of epic proportions if we are not.

ESPN SoccerNet Cover Story
meatwad replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I remember that article. It's a complete travesty even for an opinion piece. It seriously appeared that she just threw darts at a board and whatever team it landed on she would put them in her top 10. Nevermind that Akron was #1 in the country in a few polls to start that year. That was nuts. -
Is that a rule that a sub .500 team can't make the NCAA tourney without winning their conf tourney? I guess it makes sense, but it is written in the NCAA rulebook anywhere?

I was on the side the Zips were attacking and it occurred to me that many Rowdies to not realize what happened on this goal...No doubt it was a great shot by Ampi off the free kick, but the ball hit just underneath the crossbar and came almost straight down. It would not have gone in the goal except it hit off the goalie's back and trickled over the line. Keep that in mind when/if we play Hartwick next weekend... he scored on himself! (Ampi I'm sure still got credit for the goal, but Jeremy definitely put it in).I'm curious... could anyone on the hill see that from where you were?

UA Unveils New Motivational Poster?
meatwad replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
That is fantastic stuff. Very creative. I love it. -
GP1 hates them out of jealousy. They get to live tax free (which is his libertarian desire). Also he knows that they are vastly superior wood craftsmen. They are running a tax free scam I would love to run.Actually, if you are ever in Amish country, look at how many trucks have North Carolina plates on them. The furniture they sell is made in NC and trucked up there unfinished. They sand the wood, finish it ONLY and they call it Amish made. It's an awesome scam.I bought an Amish coffee table once. A year or so later I was getting something from under it and found a sticker that honest to God said, "Made in China."I felt robbed.

You are correct. That would have put MSU up 2-1.

I'll kick it off, a couple hours before gametime. Zips 2 Sparty 0.

No Automatic Berth for MAC Men's Champ in 2009
meatwad replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I love the random sunglass smileys in your response. Thanks for the info. -
Nice article... I would note however, that they make mention that MAC teams might try to pack the box and steal a win to get into the NCAA tournament. We have already shown on this board that is not the case, but that just proves how weird it is that no one really knows that.

No Automatic Berth for MAC Men's Champ in 2009
meatwad replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
ok, so the MAC doesn't get an auto qualifier. Does anyone know why? Obviously for Akron it does not matter. I think we could lose out and still be in the tourney at this point. Still it points to the absolute crap of a league that we are in that they don't even get an auto qualifier for the NCAA tourney. -
Nagbe was sandwiched by two defenders just outside the box, when he went down he was in the area but the contact was initiated just outside. You know how it goes, they always spot those a step or two outside the 18.I had a pretty good angle on the play and had no doubt in my mind that he was fouled JUST outside the box. Good call by the official. Not that it mattered, it worked out like a PK.

Agreed. I thought NIUs pressure in the midfield took us out of our game a little bit tonight. Overall we were still clearly the better team and our defense was superb as usual... just a bit of a rough night for the offense.

Vote for Ben Zemanski
meatwad replied to Zippysgotagun's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Mods can we maybe pin this topic? I sometimes forget to vote everyday if there is not a "new post." -
Interestingly enough I see that Wake Forest beat VT 5-1 earlier this year. That should serve as a warning that there is no reason to get comfortable. Need to keep getting better. Good win on the road tonight.

Are you kidding me? I love Chick-Fil-A. What's not to like?

UA vs OSU in game thread
meatwad replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
tosu is making their soccer games (along w/ a couple other sports like gymnastics) free admission for all, to try to build up support/attendance. I posted on Buckeye Planet that on the other hand, tosu did help us to set a paid soccer attendance record, with a link to the GoZips article on the game...and promptly got banned. Of course, I also had posted the AP top 10 previously and received an infraction for "inciting a reaction". There are plenty of good Buckeye fans but the moderators of that board are pretty childish to not even allow a discussion of in-state competition from Cinci, or the Akron soccer game.I really don't know what you expected. If an OSU fan came on here and posted all of the past OSU vs. Akron football scores, would we also not ban them instantly? Talk about trolling...
