Delmonico Departs, Homayed Here
Blue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Thanks for the update. Not very often you read about freshman just quitting. To have 2 in the same year is strange.I agree. What gives? -
I'm buying a copy as soon as I get back from vacation. And I do have to remember not to get too upset about OSU - even though I hate the school with a passion. Rationally, I do believe that the best we can do with the current Akron-area population is to make them both UA and OSU fans. My greater hope is in the next generation. Hopefully we can all raise our kids to be Akron fans and not Columbus State bandwagon sellouts like the rest of the state.Ohio is the biggest loser - bandwagon state I know. I have OSU fan friends who say, "I'm not riding a bandwagon, I'm from Ohio, so I like OSU." Oh, yeah, then where is your OU stuff? Oh, yeah, that's right, you are a bandwagon rider. Losers.Oh, well. Being a Zips fan ain't easy!

Good to have you, brother!I'm with you. I stumbled upon ZNO by accident about 4 years ago and not a day has gone by - save days I'm out of town - that I don't check ZNO. In fact, since finding ZNO I've cancelled both my Rivals.com membership and my Akron Beacon Journal subscription. The information I find on hear blows both of those sources completely out of the water.

Good question. I have a family pack in section 204, row 29 (all the way @ the top), seats 21-24.I got as close to the 50 as I could with a family pack, and I also chose the top row because I enjoy the bird's eye vantage point of the action. I can just really see plays open up from up there much better than from field level. I guess I sacrifice being as close to the action as possible to get the bird's eye view.

From the Bahamas to Akron
Blue & Gold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Wonder what gives. The article states that Adderly "trained" with the Canton McKinley Bulldogs. If he's from the Bahamas, what exactly does that mean? Also, the other scholly recipient is attending Mount Union. So there appears to be some sort of Bahama - Akron/Canton connection? -
Just what all kinds of research go on at UA?! Do they know something we don't?!

[quote name='Zips DM'P.S. Band camp started Saturday, and it looks like we are going to have an exceptional product for you folks by game time. Can you start a new thread and give us some insider updates about the band's progress and what we can expect to hear and see?

Lol. Also, when I voted, I voted for the wrong location (a hanging chad, if you will?) Lol. I voted for, I believe the option was "another location on campus". Idk, it's been far too long now. But anyhow, that was because I didn't know the Kaiser Building was on the lot across from Canal Park. If I could vote over again, I'd cast my lot for that location.

I just came through Kalamazoo, Michigan, on my way to a vacation in Muskegon/Grand Haven. I stopped by WMU and had a look around. Beautiful campus. I found an open gate @ Waldo Stadium and had an extensive look around. Man, I tell you what, Waldo Stadium is nothing, nothing, absolutely NOTHING in comparison to the Info!!! Good grief, if football facilities are what attract many top-shelf players, we're going to absolutely dominate the MAC real soon!Btw, I stopped by Bell's because it got such great reviews by fellow ZNO brothers. Unfortunately, it was a cash-only establishment and the atm they had inside the joint was out of funds! Lol. Oh well, no Bell's for me!

Which 40 teams should make up Division I-A?
Blue & Gold replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
That is freaking hilarious! Lol -
I just don't think Jaq has a lot of confidence. And that's unfortunate. You want your QB to be a cocky punk who knows he's the best and knows he can't lose.

I don't mind that Diamond & Nadir are getting angry. I don't like, however, the fact that punches were thrown. That goes a bit beyond football agressiveness to getting personal. Both those guys are going to be excellent players, so it's good to see them locking horns like that. Also, Dashawn's toe concerns me. Toe injuries can be aggravatingly tricky. They can take a loooong time to heal up.

I'm glad to hear that the scarf is sweet. Going strictly by the online graphic I was a little bit concerned it was too simple/generic looking.

I think he just meant that the link only takes you to a log-in page. It doesn't link to the thread or article you were referring to. Can you try to post the link again?

Zips Win, My thoughts exactly. Jim Dennison should have written the foreword.Perhaps Jeff Boals would agree to write a foreword to any forthcoming UA Basketball history books? Lol.

[quote name='timmyboy' i noticed trey fairchilds name on this list................a kid that akron was pursuing. Wonder if he will try to make an attempt to come here or not.Timmyboy! Where the heck you been?! Good point w/ Fairchild. We were relatively high on his list, if I remember correctly. -
Tidbit for the Day
Blue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I see Pierre Carr is listed. I didn't think he was going to be on the roster until next year. Also, I thought I read somewhere that former Tallmadge RB Tyler Fortner was going to walk on. I'm a bit disappointed not to see his name listed. -
Lol. Oooh, the bitter irony! It does seem strange that UA will advertise for Bud Light, but not offer the product itself.

As I peruse the Zips' roster, I don't believe I've ever seen a Zips' team so incredibly stacked through the front seven. IMHO this is definitely BCS-caliber. If we transition to a 3-4, just look at this lineup.My un-informed 2-deep @ DL:1. Almondo Sewel 6-1 280 Jr.2. Ryan Bain 6-2 290 Sr.3. Phil Tonga 6-4 275 Jr.4. James Harvey 6-4 290 So.5. Hasan Hazime 6-5 255 So.6. Chris Henderson 6-2 325 Fr.Luxurious depth:Joe Rash 6-2 275 So.Dan Marcoux 6-3 275 So.Cowles Stewart 6-1 295 So.Shane Shead 6-3 230 So.Marquinn Davis 6-6 290 So.Deni Odofin 6-3 230 jr.My un-informed 2-deep @ LB:1. Mike Thomas 5-11 215 Jr.2. Shawn Lemon 6-1 235 Jr.3. Aaron Williams 6-0 205 So.4. Sean Fobbs 6-1 240 Jr.5. Brian Wagner 6-2 220 RFr.6. Nate Schuler 6-2 235 RFr.7. Will Flemming 6-4 205 Fr.8. Troy Gilmer 6-1 215 RFr.Luxurious depth:Da-Von Moore 5-11 220 So.Matt Little 6-3 220 So.That is crazy potential right there. I've got my fingers crossed, but I think that this year our defense is gonna strike fear in the hearts of the MAC.

Marketing effort sightings
Blue & Gold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
[quote name='ZachTheZipI just saw a 30-second TV spot for the stadium on the Discovery Channel. It looked very well done. I'm over my depth on this - I have no idea how much it costs to produce a commercial or purchase airtime - but GREAT! IMHO we need A MUCH, MUCH STRONGER tv presence. We never receive the free advertising (news coverage) that the Browns, Indians and Cavs do, so we've got to deliberately saturate some popular networks w/ the Zips. Maybe even screw 3, 5, 8 & 19 - I despise all the Cleveland stations. Maybe just go through Discovery, ESPN, the Deuce, etc. -
Petition: Ending Open enrollment
Blue & Gold replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
When I was there I talked to people who were co-oping for ford, and some who knew grads who went to work for the automakers. I heard the same story that I suspect is very true now. The engineers at those places have to answer to the bureaucrats and the bean counters. Our guys want to make something right, and they want to make something cheap.

Good grief, I hope not. That's precisely why most folks would prefer to drive either a Honda or Toyota in the first place. -
Tidbit for the Day

OhioVarsity.com ranks Nico Caponi as the 16th best LB in the state. They say that this year's LB class is stocked.NicoI like what they say about him: "Massive run-stuffer in the middle has a staggering 430-pound bench press."[edit]: Oh, and OhioVarsity.com ranks Chase Hoobler as the 7th best LB in this year's Ohio class. But we already knew he was rather amazing. Go Zips! -

Rivals.com now has Seth Cunningham listed as a 3-Star corner.3-StarsOhioVarsity.com has Cunningham listed as the 3rd best corner in the state this year.#3 in OhioCunningham was also offered by Iowa, North Carolina, Western Michigan & Cincinnatti. -
It's around 11:30 and they're presently working on covering the sides of the scoreboard. It looks much better already. Additionally, the back covering seems to be laying much more smoothly than when I checked it out last week. It's not looking bad @ all. Also, I agree about Exchange Street. Sadly, I hope no one uses the main entrance on Exchange. Exchange is flat cruddy. When I bring friends I'm going to walk then through campus and come in through one of the two northern entrances. This way I can 1) show off the beautiful campus, and 2) avoid the shame that is Exchange Street.
