  1. As someone who was there when we finished in "2nd place", I am amazed that you feel the 66th palce in NCAA Division I is much more deserving of a banner than "2nd place". Believe me the players on the teams from 1963 through 1968 could compete with Travis, Joyce, and Linhart. I said compete, I didn't say they were better, although Billy Turner did spend several years in the NBA out on the west coast. Bring back all the banners that were hanging up there previousily.
  2. Not only is there respect between both coaches but I was impressed to see that several Can't State players came over to shake hands with KD and the Assistant Coaches after the player introductions. This is a great rivalry and with any rivalry there is (and should be) respect for your opponent on both sides. And by the way, I thought that Can't played a great game last night, they definately faded in the last eight minutes but for the first thirty two they hit a lot of shots against a very good defense.
  3. Agreed! This nonsense has gone back to one of the greatest myths about UofA sports and that is Huggins would have stayed at Akron of Faust was not hired. There are actually a few good myths about UofA sports. Perhaps a topic is in order...even a poll. This thread is really counter productive. Everyone should be proud of both teams and happy that Akron has both coaches. And oh, by the way GP1, I agree that Huggins wouldn't have stayed if Faust were not hired. But he would have stayed longer, and that's not a myth!
  4. Fear:Are you sue it's not 640? WHLO?I've never heard of a 650. My mistake it is 640 WHLO. I was able to pull the game in on both frequencies and thus my mistake.
  5. This is a sad and disturbing commentary on the state of athletic affairs in the MAC. If the football coaches are that underpaid it can be assumed that the coaches in basketball and all other sports are the same. Also of concern is the assistant coaches who form the well spring of talent for future MAC coaches.
  6. I went to Radio Shack and bought a "high performance" radio so that I could pull in 1350 AM without the interference and garble that I normally got. Then with more than six minutes left in the BGSU vs Akron game the "Akron's ISP" had technical difficulties and lost their signal. They got it back with about three minutes left in the game and promptly lost it again.Becasue I enjoy beating a dead horse I have to mention that with our Athletic Department why should I be surprised that they choose a radio station like 1350 AM to broadcast our games. You can't hear it if you're over 10 miles from the station, and when they have technical difficulties you get an education on credit card balance transfers, not just once but twice.
  7. If anyone cares .. because their games are broadcast on 650 AM. And even though they don't seem to have problems with their broadcast.
  8. I don't know if the Lady Zips can win the MAC with 3-4 years, but I do know that this team is a big improvment over last year's team. I've seen them a couple of times and the defense and offensive coordination is much better. The team is young, the coach is new, and Lady Zips are no longer an embarrasment. Way to go Ladies, good luck with the rest of the season.
  9. Great News ........ Congratulations go to Sinisa Ubiparipovic .... good luck in the future.
  10. If the story about the high school "ticket promotion" marketing ploy is correct (and I have no reason to doubt it), then I think we should do more than just fire the marketing deepartment. We should take them out and bury their dumb ass bodies, as THEY ARE ALREADY BRAIN DEAD.If that had happened in the business world, I shudder to think about what would happen to that individual, yet in the world of academia, where they are expert enough to teach this stuff .....................'Nuff Said, I feel like
  11. I simply do NOT understand why we can not make free throws. OK, OK this time we had a decent percentage, we just couldn't get to the line, however all year long we have had problems in this area. When I played everyone had to shoot twenty free throws at the end of practice when we were tired. For every one we missed we had to run a lap around the gym. The free throw percentage went up big time when this started.
  12. Free Throws ... Free Throws .... Free Throws
  13. This is a link to the Athens Messenger and O'Shea discussed foul shooting:http://www.athensmessenger.com/main.asp?Se...192&TM=34348.23"During Saturday's 79-66 win over in-state rival Cincinnati at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, the Ohio University men's basketball team racked up 36 free throw attempts.Afterward, Ohio head coach Tim O'Shea tried to explain to the media that the number was nothing out of the ordinary and, in some ways, to be expected."Coming in, we had shot well over 100 more free throws than our opponent," he said. "So it's been a consistent thing. We getting the ball into the paint."When you've got a guy like (Jerome) Tillman, a guy like (Leon) Williams, and slashers like Whitney Davis and (Sonny) Troutman…you draw a lot of fouls."The Bobcats, however, have started making them as well. Ohio (9-3) netted 30 free throws against the Bearcats; an 83.3 percent effort that will only improve its season average of 74.3 percent."Hopefully they don't find the same path to the foul line tonight, but chances are they will. With the Zips poor execution in this area this could get ugly
  14. I don't think we should upset with Walther transfering to OU. Why are we so hostile to a player like Bubba that arguably has become the best player OU has. Actually I'm kinda glad he transfered, it freed up a spot on the roster, and he is arguably the best player OU has, which makes me that much more appreciative of Dru, Dials, and Cedric. Too bad we don't have another player of Walther's caliber to send to OU.
  15. Maybe it is a question of semantics. I don't believe that make-up calls have anything to do with the total number of calls against either team. To me a make-up call is when an offical misses a call or makes a "bad call" then turns around and calls a foul or violation (walking, 3 seconds, etc.) to even up the score.
  16. The Lady Zips beat Niagara tonight 69-42 giving them a 7-5 record going into MAC play. The women look GOOD. Compared to last year they rebound better, play better defence, look to pass to the open person, and in general seem to be more aggressive and enjoy playing. Things look good for Coach Krest and this team as there are a whole bunch of young players contributing. They might not challenge for the MAC Championship this year, but look out in the years to come. GREAT JOB LADIES !!!!
  17. With all due respect there are "make-up calls" and one happened tonight with Loyala Mariemount. One of their players faked a shot and an Akron player (McKnight?) went up in the air and came down on him. No call was made then, but a few seconds later the same offical called Cedric Middleton for a "non existant foul" on a rebound. From my point of view that was a "make-up call", the official missed the first call, knew he missed it, and called another to "make-up" for the missed call. A foul should have been called, just not on Middleton.
  18. They announced at the woman's game tonight about a promotion to "JAM THE JAR". Coupons for free admission to the Akron - Can't game were supposedly in the lobby. I immediately went down to the lobby, saw the table with the sign, but no coupons. I asked around and nobody seemed to know anything about the coupons. The guy at the ticket window said that if there wasn't any coupons on the table they "must have ran out". How many coupons were there if they "ran out" within three minutes after the announcement? Wonder if the "JAR WILL BE JAMED" for that woman's game on the 6th?
  19. AK-Zips - after carefully looking over gozips.com again I have come to believe that the Marketing Department is doing a GREAT JOB. It's just that they aren't marketing the Zips. It's obvious that in looking at the ads for companies like Hilton Inn; Air Tran; ComDoc; Montrose Auto Group; Classmates.com; Giant Eagle; Winking Lizard; etc (this could go on forever) that our Athletic Marketing Department is hard at work. I really think you are being too hard on them.
  20. I do believe that you are wasting your time AK-Zips. Since the beginning of the year I've sent several e-mails concerning the various problems with gozips.com (small letters intentional) such as errors in box scores, late postings of game news, etc. And guess what ....... NOTHING HAPPENED ... not even a reply.
  21. I simply can not understand our Athletic Department. Are they simply incompetant or are they incompetant and apathetic. Today on Monday (Dec. 25th) the home page of gozips.com contains an advertisement fot the Friday Dec. 22nd game. Maybe they are still trying to sell some more tickets due to the fact that they didn't do such a good job the first time around. I have to laugh when they describe gozips.com as a premium content provider.By the way I have not capitalized gozips.com on purpose because, in my opinion, they are a "lower case" operation.
  22. I have asked several stores why they don't carry University of Akron apparel, and received a reply I don't understand and am not sure that I believe, but it was the same answer. I was told that several years ago the University "took over their own brand marketing" and that to purchase the right to sell Zips apparel was just to expensive versus the amount of sales. Huh?????
  23. How about the NCAA Tournament in 1965 against the College of Steubenville. I especially remember that one because in High School I played for the "Big Red" and met a couple former teammates at Memorial Hall. Bill Turner, Don Williams and the boys showed why they were NCAA Runner-Ups the year before, and the crowd for this game (and all tournament games at Memorial Hall) was loud, wild, and sold out.
  24. Your chances of getting such a win increase dramatically if you play these teams more frequently. KD talks about wanting to be the next Creighton...Gonzaga...Butler, etc. You don't get there by playing the schedule we have this season.Trust me...I realize the beatdowns we've administered to the D-III creampuffs and D-1 dregs has enabled guys like McKnight, Conyers, etc. to get some valuable PT prior to the MAC season. But our pre-MAC schedule is what it is...too heavy on the cream puffs. And the congregation said "AMEN"!!! They also said but that is a different thread.
  25. I truly hate the stupid mistakes that have been made when "marketing" the Athletic Department. Trying to make "big bucks" off of close in parking then backing off when there was an uproat. Not having printed home game tickets ready for sale at the START of the football season. Charging season ticket holders $5.00 for parking and everyone else $3.00. Not having enough "give away blankets" available at the home games. Trying to sell student section tickets during break. Selling cheap "give away" tickets to both football and basketball games after season ticket sales (this could and should have been advertised upfront). Finally my really pet peeve is gozips.com, I think that a high school kid could have designed it and maintained it better that what it has been.
