  1. Nice player, but easily replaceable. Who is going to do this next year? It constantly amazes me how negative some of you can be in spite of these players winning one of the most exciting games against our arch rival on national TV and giving us one of the best seasons in program history. One more win and we have THE best season in program history. Why treat some of them like disposable commodities? They are real young men who have worked hard to entertain us and do our alma mater proud. Why not celebrate that with them and thanks them for their hard work and success? If they choose to leave early because better opportunity exists elsewhere, wish them well! They have earned it. Put the bitterness and negativity away for at least a few weeks...there will be plenty of opportunity for that during football season. Yes, I hope the growth of our program results in continually better players being brought in, but that doesn't have to be at the expense of taking away from the accomplishments of current and past players. We have them to thank for the growth of the program. Shame on you, GP1! Please reread my post. I said he was a nice player before saying he was replaceable. Everyone is replaceable...some more easily than others. Are they disposable commodities? Maybe. Some for sure. Didn't we give the boot to some of our commodities after last season? Aren't we better because of it? It's Division I college basketball, not D-III or high school. In a big boys world and inside of coaches rooms, players are talked about in this manner. Sorry if some aren't mature enough to talk about it. It's not a maturity issue at all. My main point is that this is a great day for the Zips and UA. We should be all positive in celebration. I won't debate this anymore though because I know it could go on ad nauseum. I can think of some great captions for that pic. Unfortunately, the monitors would not care for most of them. Several of them involve thoughts of women from his hometown. In addition, think of the bacteria on that net; might as well lick the floor.
  2. That's all well and good, but GoZips has been wondering for 3 and a half months now whether or not he's a frisbee and anything I can do to ease his anxiety, I'm going to do. Watching the Flyers get waxed on TV right now reminded me of GoZips! Ke.nt vs Dayton would be an entertaining NIT game.
  3. Shaking my head at this comment. Dayton was tough as nails the entire game. There was no sleep walking, meandering or other such nonsense. Confined to the rafters, us few and very cramped Zips fans who ventured to Dayton in the stretch limo (I'll NEVER do that again) can attest to the fact that Dayton never once let up off their go pedal. Dayton just had way too many bigs for the Zips. Their overall athleticism did the young Zips in. I read in the Dayton News this morning that one of their star players commented that they were a young team just learning each other. Baloney, Dayton started three seniors, one a first team All-American in Chris Wright, and two juniors. If that's youth, I'm a coocoo clock. If Chris Wright is a first team All-American you're a frisbee. Edit: you should have come down and sat with the 20 or so Zip fans behind the bench. Several seats were available. Right before the game one guy who I don't believe had a ticket came down, showed his Akron shirt, and joined the group. Evidence is building to support assertion that GoZips is not a frisbee. http://gmine.blogspot.com/2011/03/10-mens-...ence-teams.html
  4. This was the same K.en.t team that drove the lane for easy buckets at will just a few days ago. That didn't happen yesterday. What caused the difference?
  5. It's not fair that the kid now gets to post as both Zach and akronzips71.
  6. I'm not saying a word.
  7. Joe Lunardi currently has us as a 16 going up against Notre Dame. My absolute best (and unlikely) case has us at a 14 against Texas.
  8. Apparently while he was an assistant professor at OU, he was also teaching someplace else because his bio says "Taught journalism courses in editing, ethics, news writing and feature writing as a tenure-track professor for one of the elite journalism programs in the country." P.S. That "tenure-track" thing at OU didn't work out too well for Justice as would be the case for just about anyone whose formal education ceased at the masters level.
  9. Were you even paying attention? The guy laid on the floor, our guys are celebrating, jumping up and down in kind of a moving huddle, they didn't even see the guy. Cvetinovic helped the guy up and was being obviously apologetic to the Can't guy, making sure he was okay, when he got pushed in the back by another Can't thug. And that is what started it. No kidding.
  10. That's right! Zeke Marshall, Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He deserved it and I called it. If we could win a game or two in the dance, we could set ourselves up for an at large or NIT bid next year. There WILL be interest in Zeke as time goes on. Deep thinking.
  11. But was there really any need to team stomp that k state guy while he was busy lying on the floor and pouting?
  12. we are going to win this game by 11.
  13. You got my hopes jacked way up when you mentioned Bill Veeck and your band. I was thinking you had 110 horn blowin dwarfs. I don't know about the rest of the guys on this board, but I would definitely show up to gawk at that.
  14. I heard Seattle was wiped out and the Golden Gate Bridge is now in Boise.
  15. I am uncertain that you missing this means that we missed it.
  16. Hey, our money is as good as anybodies.
  17. No way. Need to win the MAC to extend the season. He didn't say the Big Dance. Did anyone think our defense was a tad less effective in the second half compared to the first?
  18. If the remainder of their first and second teams gets suspended I believe we have a shot.
  19. It does sound like there is more to the story. When I heard OSU players were trading memorabilia for tats, that just didn't sound right. First of all, tats don't cost that much, secondly, a tat doesn't seem to be an even trade for memorabilia, and thirdly, an OSU player could easily get a tat done for free. I'm guessing they traded memorabilia for tats and a ton of cash. Then you have to ask, does the owner of a tat parlor make a ton of cash? Probably not. The parlor is probably a front for some other unlawful business; typical pay-in-cash, no receipts business. Shady. The US Attorney probably stumbled upon the memorabilia while investigating this money-laundering establishement. It is true that one of the criteria needed for a valid bilateral contract is consideration being offered by both parties, but there is no requirement that the consideration be of equal value. In fact, if one of the contracting parties has better negotiating skills than the other it would not be unlikely that the value of the consideration offered by the parties would differ. An interesting question in this particular case is, "who is more likely to have impaired negotiating skills, a tattoo parlor operator or an OSU football player?" Close call.
  20. If we could sign Yuri Wright and Yur Wrong we would really have something to market.
  21. Congrats on being the first guy to pinpoint the problem in this game. Could have mixed in a zone while Zeke was still in the game. Instead we kept with the man-to-man/wide-open lane defense.
  22. OK so CSU didn't win the Horizon league regular season championship. You probably meant they would win the league tournament. How did that semi-final game against Butler turn out tonight?
  23. I think you political fans would enjoy watching the documentary 'Inside Job.' It won an Oscar this year. I think it gives a nice overview of what brought about the financial meltdown that put our economy in the situation we are currently in. Haven't seen the movie, but the situation we are in isn't too difficult to figure out. 30 years ago, 8% of the GDP of the USA was financial institutions. Today, it is 42%. The only way to really have a wealthy society is to make things. What do financial institutions make? What value do they bring to society other than getting people to sign on the dotted line and pass along a fee for processing paperwork? How many people out there know there is a tax incentive the US government gives you to move your company to another country? We have met the enemy and we are us. If the unemployment number is going down, what kind of job is replacing it? Let's look. Jobs lost during the recession were wage jobs between $19.05 and $31.40 per hour. These new and exciting jobs everyone is excited about are wages between $9.03 and $12.91. Another step toward the US becoming a Third World country complete. I'm a pretty conservative guy, but there is something really wrong in this country. I could care less about the rich or the poor. The middle, or shrinking middle, is a huge problem moving forward. Banks lend out 10x more money than they have available on reserve. That situation alone is enough to cause catastrophe. Are you referring to required reserves or excess reserves. If you consider this situation carefully you will realize that because required reserves must be maintained either as vault cash or on deposit at the Fed these amounts really are not "available" to meet the bank's liquidity needs. So one can only conclude that the situation is more dire than you have stated. All members of the Zips Nation should withdraw any money they have in a depository institution and bury it in your backyard. This is the only way to truly solve the problem.
  24. Fact is, 1st round bye is completely in the Zips hands right now. With a win over the Flushes, and either Miami or OU losing to the other, the Zips will get a first round bye. Personally, I'll be rooting for OU on Friday night. Much rather have them as a three seed where we wouldn't have to play them till the final. Are you related to the grate GPone? I only ask because you just answered your own question - twice.
