Position Preview (and updates) - Offensive Line
72 Roo replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Do you think he got a full scholarship, partial or PWO? -
Think what you will. This is a forum open to all opinions. I can tell you the talk in Pittsburgh was that our BBall collective was the best in the MAC. It has some serious backing. Just perhaps Bud knows that and getting serious money into the collective is more critical than opening it up to the public. FWIW, Groce is in one three guys who will require NIL money to come here. They are big time talents, for the MAC that is, and we have the money they are seeking. They like everything about our program which could tip the scales in our favor if the money is the same.

Good Lord! If we applied the look test he is perfect for the PCCC future felon program.
-
His gifts are off the charts. What a beautiful shot he has. Unfortunately he has neither humility nor modesty to go with it. I wish him well except whenever he plays against the Zips.
-
For those of you salivating over David Coit I was in your ranks. But when I raised the issue to our staff in Pittsburgh they said forget it. He will not fit in with our culture, coaching or defense. He is not on our radar. Groce has always said if you come to Akron you have to fit into our culture, not the other way around.

Old news.

Going to YSU is in a big part because of M. Jackson, but make no mistake NIL dollars are involved and they are not insignificant. Yes she can do better, but apparently the NIL dollars are not there like at YSU. Stay tuned. We are rebuilding after a rebuilding year.
-
KD has already had a talk with our administration about helping UA in the future, both the institution and athletics. He wants to be a presence in Akron.
-
At least we are 100% better than McNeese with a 2-10 record. 😀
-
She is rumored to be headed to YSU and getting NIL money too.
-
Unfortunately he's still horridous when finishing at the rim. It seems he is 1-14. How can he get to the rim so fluently and finish so terribly?
-
The biggest concern going into the OU and championship games is limiting TO's. This is one issue that Groce has not fixed. In my opinion he tolerates them. We do not protect the basketball. We do stupid stuff and have done so all season long. Correct the TO's and I believe we can play with anybody.
-
Not a good sign. This team is regressing when they should be getting better. Maybe not winning, but playing the game better. This team either has a bad culture or coaching. You decide.
-
The only thing UMass brings is basketball and access to the Boston TV market. Hopefully the MAC uses that to get a sweeter TV contract and subsequent payout to member schools. The MAC is braindead if it adds Illinois State and N. Dakota State as one on-line pundit suggested.

The results at the MAC championships were abysmal for our once proud top 25 track and field program. I would do everything I could to lure Mitchell back, even if he is making more money at Illinois as their PV coach than he made as head coach at Akron. He knew how to recruit and develop talent. This staff is doing neither. The results speak for themselves. Spend some of the UK & OSU FB guarantee money to get a quality coach in an olympic sport.

Illini Zip, this is brilliant, but you can't give him high marks for his tackle because of the yards after contact. Very poor technique, but you expect that from PCCC.
-
Got to agree with you here 81 Grad. Still I believe Groce will figure it out. Many players, especially Freeman, have said this team has another level in them. I think they should have that, but in reality they do not. They have too many weaknesses to go deep in the tournament. In fact it will be a challenge to win the MAC. The turnovers that plague this team are a puzzle. Why can't they be patient rather than trying to force a play? I am struggling to understand why Groce keeps starting Dawson. He has started to show defensive lapses and his shooting is atrocious. Nonetheless I keep telling myself to enjoy this team because next year's edition will be a big drop-off from past performance.

A promotion is worthless if it does not have an obvious message. This one was not obvious. Do they really think that a pseudo connection to all the Swifties on campus will bring people and/or students to the game? We can do better.

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season
72 Roo replied to LZIp's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is insane. OSU has the number one rated recruiting class and number one transfer portal class. Five of the portal transfers are projected to be starters. OSU got outplayed by Michigan in the first quarter and then was even or better in the remaining three quarters. They have hired Bill O'Brien to be their OC. If he does not take the BC job he will improve their O remarkably. The Mizzu game was bad, but the team was not dialed in for a meaningless game. Ryan Day has made the changes needed. Three O coaches have been fired and a new OC hired. I don't like OSU all that well, but I do recognize they are an elite top five program year in year out. -
Maybe if we restart inane debates like an arena on campus or downtown we can lure them both out of retirement. On second thought, I don't know if I could take it.
-
Not so sure about your timeline. I see little improvement thru the course of this season. When I watch them play I don't look for W's. I look for improvement in how they execute plus individual player growth. I think we have a good coach, but I think he has found the MAC is tougher than he thought. Recruiting has to pick up if we are to challenge for the league crown. I couldn't agree more that Bass will be gone before any turnaround. I wouldn't be surprised if she leaves with a year left to finally play for a winning program.
-
Revenues are placed in a general athletics fund that the Ad can decide how to parcel out. The buyout from UK and the big payday from OSU are earmarked to help several program. Football will not keep all of it, but hey will get the majority. A new scoreboard will be one of the benefits football will receive.

Absolutely stunning news. He was a good guy, a proud Zip and someone who made you love to be at Track & Field events. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
-
When you leave for another program with one year left you leave only for playing time. No one gets a better draft position for sitting on the bench or splitting time on a P5 team no matter how nice their facilities are. Regardless, I wish him well.
-
I really don't get this. Why leave for what I assume to be P5 position for only one year? What P5 will take a good, but not great, G5 player from a terrible team? I'm not thinking there are many landing places, so does that mean he focuses on a better G5 team to improve his draft position? Possibly, but, again, it doesn't make sense to me.
