Western #25 in Coaches Poll...Eastern Michigan(4-1) got a vote (Toledo at home this week).

Miscellaneous thoughts: Watching the Zips without Woodson is like watching the Steelers without Ben. Byrce Jones had an incredible game. Nick Holley probably made for some intense defensive practices this week, and that's probably a good thing. It was fun watching Chapman's second half of football. The short yardage package with MTB is way better/effective than it was with Grice. I want more. Will he ever throw? I'm starting to gain confidence in the ball going through the uprights. I wish Dustin Fox did the game solo. The offensive line is becoming a strength. Who is coaching them again? This defense is going to start getting some turnovers soon. Coach Amato's defenses are always better at the end of the year. I will miss JoJo next year, he is special.

Nobody selected the win total, and only one person, ZippyRulz, selected the over on Kent's total offense. Akron beats Kent, everybody that voted is a WINNER! PS With Kent's defensive scheme, Woodson would have thrown 5 touchdowns.

Woodson out with shoulder issue.

Funny story g-mann. I was at that game, and my memories of that day are sad, and vivid as well. Kent doesn't have anybody on offense as talented as Edelman, I think you will have better memories this year.

New QB on the Zips Radar?
Dr Z replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Quarterback is THE most important position on the team. Competition, injuries, unknown, etc... Never stop trying to create quality depth on your roster. If we get to the level where a player transfers out of Akron, and makes some sort of noise in FBS, we will be too busy enjoying the football team to notice. -
Feel free to discuss your answers below. Members that answer all three correctly will be recognized Sunday morning.

Najee Murray (CB, Kent State) has given up 17 receiving yards in 142 coverage snaps. The Junior transfer from Ohio State is making the most of his opportunity with Golden Eagles. Through four games and 142 coverage snaps, Murray has allowed a total of 17 yards. Those 17 yards came on 13 targets and three receptions. Opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 7.5 when throwing into Murray’s coverage. Murray is PFF College’s fourth-ranked coverage cornerback. source: @pff

I would have liked to hear coaches take on the kick-off coverage, Thomas Woodson's (or play calling) adjustment after the interceptions, and who he thought played well in a limited role during the Mountaineers game. Also, is there a possibility of Warren Ball playing this week. He mentioned him, and it didn't sound positive to me. I realize he probably wouldn't have answered the question, but I still would have asked. I liked hearing his comment saying that we need to pass to open up the run.

The Zips already do some of these. I like the DJ idea. Fleck's enthusiasm reminds me of our interim president. Get him more involved.

Site Update & Upgrade Information
Dr Z replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
Performance, and security upgrade this morning, all background processing should be finished at the time of this post. -
These injury lists mean little. Coach Bowden does not have to officially announce anything, but Warren Ball has been on this list the last few weeks, and no longer appears. An offensive game plan that favors a few more running plays (clock running), can give our defense some extra sideline time.

I agree. He is young talent (sophomore) that stands out to me. He seems to be around the ball a lot. Good run supporter. He was also named the Weight Room Most Improved player following spring drills. He had 10 tackles last week, and 9 the week before. Does Joe Dunn still do that piece entitled "Stock on the Rise?" (or something like that). I would bye some SF20 stock now. Zips favored by 5 this week.

Saints WR Tommylee Lewis caught 3-of-4 targets for 43 yards in the Week 3. Lewis is a tiny 5'7/168 rookie out of Northern Illinois who was recommended to the Saints by legendary coach Bill Parcels. source: Rotoworld

Reading your post makes me think the Zips should parody something like this.

Source: PFF Quarterback grade: Cody Kessler, 65.6 Kessler conservative, unremarkable but might be just what the Browns need While the Browns would substitute Terrelle Pryor in on several drives, Kessler wound up taking 36 dropbacks for a franchise reeling from the loss of its primary and secondary options. Kessler completed 16-of-20 aimed passes under 10 yards and, surprisingly, completed five-of-seven beyond 10 yards. The rookie quarterback from USC would top all quarterbacks from the 1 p.m. games with an adjusted completion percentage of 81.8 percent. With Josh McCown unlikely to play in Week 4 at Washington, Kessler could begin to solidify his job leading the Cleveland offense with another solid showing. QB Carson Wentz, 79.7 Quarterback grade: Dak Prescott, 82.1 Prescott refuses to play like a rookie Rookie Dak Prescott had another solid outing this week

PFF Top defensive grades: LB Jatavis Brown, 88.0 CB Casey Hayward, 87.0 DE Corey Liuget, 80.0 DE Tenny Palepoi, 80.0 LB Denzel Perryman, 78.1 Brown a star in the making? Besting his previous snap count high of 31 by one, Jatavis Brown continues to flash the kind of playmaking ability that will make it hard for the Chargers not to put him on the field more. He turned his sack into a big fumble of Andrew Luck, added two more defensive stops and two pass breakups.

Strategy.

Any luck yet?

Our kickoff coverage did our defense no favors. I would have kicked off to the end zone in the second half. Lets see if this gets changed this week.
