2013 6'9 C Isaiah Johnson commits to Akron
akzipper replied to Districtballer's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I would prefer Flannigan. Just looking at his offers, he would be a huge pickup. -
+1

Exactly! Beating a Penn State team that has lost everything means nothing. And then beating Marshall and Norfolk State are not impressive at all. It's unfortunate that that I have lost a lot of respect for OhioU fans recently. It's one thing to celebrate a "win" but to be so arrogant and obnoxious about it, is an embarrassment to not only your school but the entire MAC.

I thought I noticed a considerable difference in the presentation of today's show. The sign, along with on-screen graphics all seemed to be better designed.

I hope they never have to tarp off any sections of the stadium. It may improve the atmosphere, but it makes it look as if UA has given up "Why have the seats open if we will never be good and no one will sit there" It's the same as if the school would have built a 10k stadium. Not only is it embarrassing, but it gives a bad reflection on the direction of the program. While it may be embarrassing to see small crowds, it's even worse to see a program accept that as normal.

I agree with you. I feel like there's nothing better than a Zips sporting event with a large crowd. I have to drive 3 hours, and still try to make it to a few football games a year. I feel like people in Northeast Ohio take it for granted, because I would love to be at every home game. But I can understand the frustration/lack of interest in Akron football. I'm sure most people don't know who our coaches are now, and think think of us as a 1-win team. I hate to put it this way, but the program was a joke. Things are getting better, but we're not there yet. Can a 66-6 win change anything? probably not. But it can't hurt. Playing tough at UT sure could turn some heads. UA Football needs to not only start winning, but become the "place to be". Much like soccer and somedays basketball.

Could it be that we underestimated Ianello? Maybe he was the "great recruiter" everyone said he was once hired, but he didn't have the football sense to translate talent on the field? Just a thought. While I'm happy with the win, I just have to keep reminding myself that it was Morgan State. Even JD was able to beat them pretty good. I hope, if anything, it gives the team confidence and let them have some fun. God knows the players deserve it. I'm never one to encourage running up the score but after what all of these players went through. They deserved to score 100. With that being said I hope next week isn't too bad. Just be competitive and I will be happy.

Dear NCAA, can we have Dalton Williams for 3 more years? Grant us a hardship waiver for having to deal with Ianello for 2 years. My hope is that his success is more a result of the system. Meaning that if we plug any similar QB into this offense and they can succeed.

Defense showed up to play today...oh yeah!!!! ...not

Forget about Marshall, the real test will be against Norfolk State. If they can defy the odds and somehow win that game and I'd guarantee them a National Championship.

A Penn State football program that has lost everything and is winless this year.... and nobody else

Very frustrated with our fanbase/students. I remember going to every single game back when I was in school, and we had to ride the buss all the way to the Rubber Bowl. We weren't good by any means, but the games where still fun. Now I live 3 hours away and can only make it to one game per year if I'm lucky. People take it for granted and I envy those who live in Akron and have the opportunities to attend games, yet choose not to. Can't even blame the cost anymore because tickets are practically being given away for free. Does UA have to pay people to show up or what??

We've only got two wins in the past two years, I've learned not to consider anything a "guaranteed win". I would hope that we can beat Morgan State, but sure hope they don't overlook them. It would be a HUGE blow to the season if that were to happen. We took a step forward last week, losing to Morgan State would be like taking two steps back. But my biggest worry is that less than 10,000 will be there to witness it, and that is entirely possible. Just out of curiosity, if a game is on ESPN3 can you watch a replay of the game later if you miss the live stream? I know you used to be able to.

Very surprised about this one. But..the BigXII is different than the MAC, and the NCAA can be biased at times. They tend to give big schools "breaks" like this to help them out all the time, but bigger schools always get harsher punishments when they screw up. I have a bad feeling that they won't grant Pat a waiver...

that's how I feel, it was a step in the right direction. But if we want to have people show up to watch, they have to do better than "almost win" I know people hate the NE Ohio comparisons, but it't crazy to see how similar the Zips and Browns are. They both were/are bad, but this weekend they both played decent. Both teams were expected to be blown out, but stepped up. Both should have won their games but blew it. At this point it's not the losing I hate, it's how it happens. As the game goes on you get the feeling "wow they are going to win!" then everything goes down hill.

Even I would say that we deserve to be out of the ranking. But it's ESPN, and it's the national media. They only really care about wins/losses.

Let me make an analogy. It's like somebody just handed me the keys to a brand new Ferrari. Then an hour later somebody takes it away and drives it into a lake. Should I be happy that I had a Ferrari for 1 hour? Do people care if I had a Ferrari for an hour? NO This "best team in the Sunbelt" got crushed by Duke...just saying
-
I get the whole "moral victory" thing, but if we don't end up in the win column does anyone care? What if Ianello's teams went 0-24 and lost every game in overtime. Would he still have a job? At the end of the day we have to realize that we should have won this game, and gave it right away. It started out as a trainwreck and I give them credit for fighting back. But I can guarantee Bowden and the players aren't in the locker room popping champagne bottles right now and getting their tickets to Disney. I hate to fill this place with negativity, but a fan can only take so much. This stings much worse than the blowout loss last week.

that's it....ballgame. 0-2
-
I hate overtimes.. I don't understand all the screen passes and lateral running
-
either it was a makup call from the missed horse collar, or the refs think that FIU has 10ft tall wideouts.
-
man defense...I think we scored with too much time left.
-
That was our last chance. Might have been a roughing the passer, but it's our won fault we lost this game. Have to learn how to get a lead and keep it.
-
He'll need at least 2 more if we want to win.

Someone find that video feed for tonight

I've had poor quality video for most of the game, but the commercials are perfect. Go figure..
