  1. He played quite a bit last year and I believe quite a bit last week..at least much more than a play. I don’t remember him making a play his entire career thus far.
  2. Any player can play any amount of time this season and not have it count towards a year of eligibility. Which freshman did you expect to be on the field that weren’t?
  3. Our TE did actually catch a pass. However, staying true to form throughout their career thus far, actually got hurt on the play.
  4. Also playing a lot was true freshman Tony Grimes, who is a walk on. Both him and Naim were getting playing time over Terry Bowden recruit Gavin Blunt, who is on scholly and did play, as well as scholly WR Kevin Walls, who I don't believe played. A lot the personnel didn't make much sense to me either. I have to assume it mostly wasn't out of choice.
  5. I also wonder if Mathison got hurt. I didn't see him on the field at all in the 2nd half. Seems like he's probably our best offensive weapon.
  6. Perspective is important. If we still had UMASS, YSU, and NMSU on the schedule I'd expect a couple wins. Instead we get stuck with a MAC West contender and suddenly a pretty good MAC East. Many redshirt freshman, true freshman, and even walk-ons spent a lot of time on the field last night. If anyone expected this team to be around .500 this season, you haven't been paying attention. We will be lucky to win one game, and we really need to win one to get the stink off of us. I updated the scholarship chart based on the most current roster. We have 65 players on scholly. TWENTY down from the max..so 20 down from the rest of our competition. Tough for anybody to win with that, but Arth does deserve some blame for not doing more to keep players here. I think he is too high on character, which is a good thing for the future, but not now. I think he has driven many players out because of that. On top of the numbers, there were many scholarship players who seemingly weren't available last night - whether it be from corona or injuries. Cole Gest, Kato, DeMarkus Glover, Demetrick Watts, and Eric Bentley are all players you'd expect to see out there, but they weren't at all. The program really was tore down to the studs and is in the process of being built back up. Just win a game this season, if he can't do that....we may be looking at starting back over, and I fear starting the "rebuilding" process yet again. Zips Football Scholarship Chart.xlsx
  7. defense needs a lot of work.
  8. I don't like Arth being conservative at the end of the half here. 3 timeouts and you need to score to keep pace
  9. Damn, nice play by WMU. Some safety help would have been nice though
  10. Gibson has some wild throws, but I'm generally liking this offense so far. D needs to do something, particularly the front 7.
  11. Knight at RB is a surprise.
  12. Pinch me, are awesome things happening? Great first drive.
  13. Am I the only one annoyed by this broadcast? Seems camera is far away. No down and distance.
  14. we botched the first play. Jesus H. Like the call though
  15. Ugh. He was just there a few days ago. Luckily we brought in some competition at the position.
  16. Solely based off of cryptic tweets, i think the starter at QB tonight may be Gibson.
  17. I concur. However, to the contrary - he actually did publish a pretty nice article on Bubba Arslanian yesterday. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2020/11/03/auroras-bubba-arslanian-fits-mold-university-akron-football/6130936002/
  18. Steelers just traded for a LB and Spillane has been making plays. In addition to him having an availability problem, seems like his future with the team could be in jeopardy.
  19. Of course the one game we might me able to actually attend this season falls over Thanksgiving.
  20. Seems like just keeping it close to the vest for the first game for whatever competitive advantage that may come from it. Lord knows we'll need it.
  21. no depth chart for us https://gozips.com/documents/2020/10/30//game1_akron_wmu_notes_11_4_20.pdf?id=14943
  22. These are the type of players Arth is bringing in to the program and University. Hopefully having some patience (whether forced due to financial reasons or not) will pay off. We need to be looking long game, not immediate/temporary results, if we want to be a perennial MAC contender.
  23. a depth chart would be nice..so many new faces
  24. While the Buckeye 8 is not on the level of some of the leagues in Northeast Ohio, its definitely a few steps above the Malvern-like competition B&G mentioned, which is where Graves came from prior to SVSM. There have been players go to Michigan, WVU, and Purdue, as well as MAC schools, for football in recent years. One of them is actually in the NFL (Colton McKivtiz). Some other players that came from these schools include Nate Davis, Jose Davis, Tim Spencer, Joey Galloway. There are some athletes that come out of there, though not so much on the basketball side. I assume Ford being from Cambridge tipped us off to him and he did enough in AAU to warrant an offer. Could be a sleeper type of prospect who went under the radar, could be a bust. Here's to hoping he's a hidden gem..i know I'll be rooting for him being a fan of the Zips and a native of the area.
