Our attendance issues obviously aren't something we should be content with, but I do agree.
-
I mean either one should be able to win the game, but Nelson. Nelson has proved he can play and Woody blew it for himself. Tough luck but hopefully a life learning moment for him.

One last thing...I enjoyed myself last night probably more than I ever have at a Zips game. Some of these people trashing attendance on social media are Zips fans I believe. Put your money where your mouth is and show up yourself or go pound salt.

Whew......Finally posting my thoughts as I got home near midnight last night. Burning this first hour of work to read over this thread is worth it. I'll have to make some time at lunch to read the mental breakdown over on bobcatattack Where to start: Kato obviously played great. He was cerebral running the O. Night and day compared to last week. What a huge and gutsy run to seal the game with that final first down. I am excited for him for the future. The offensive line played great as well. I hardly noticed any pressure at all on Kato during his drop backs and I don't believe he was sacked at all. I've always been a fan of Woody, but I am done with him, and it has nothing to do with Kato's performance last night. If you are a senior QB and F up during the last 3 weeks of the season when your team is fighting for its best overall record in history/MAC Championship/Bowl bid, and your F up is SO bad that you are not suspended 1 week, but multiple weeks, I just have no respect for you and cannot defend you. I would have to imagine the AD/Coaching staff is done with him as well, as if it wasn't a 1 week suspension I would imagine it will be for the rest of the season. It's a shame he threw it all away. Defense scared the hell out of me in the first quarter. Couldn't stop OU at all. But we tightened up some in the 2nd and then really seemed to shut OU down in the 2nd half, even down to starters. Speaking of being down 2 starters... Featherstone AND George played phenomenal games. PHENOMENAL. Both of these guys are back up safeties remember. I said early in the season that we had 2 starting caliber players ready to take over at they've shown that. I didn't think the Davis and Camara targeting penalties were legit, but they don't show replays at the stadium. Seems they were rightfully called based on this thread. Davis wasn't playing great anyways, and he really needs to get that under control. Special teams was horrid. I feel like OU could have blocked our punt every time if they wanted. It was always close. Our kickoff coverage left a lot to be desired and the botched extra point almost cost us. I don't hold it against Featherstone much as he is the back up punt returner, but dang he made me nervous. Coney is much more sure handed and smooth, but it looked like he had a collarbone issue to me and is probably out the rest of the season, maybe he can make it back for the bowl game. I thought the offense looked a little different with Kato back there this week. Spiced up in a good way with some motions and what not. I saw some complaint about the 3 and out drive with just under 6 minutes to go deep in their territory. You absolutely have to run your normal O there up 3 with 6 mins left when they have 3 timeouts. It just didn't work out there. Dailey struggled.....I'm not sure if all 3 of his DPI's should have really been called. The refs seemed to be calling it really tight against us. Something to note though is that he was left on an island. Featherstone seemed up close to the line (presumably to help with the run game) more often than not, leaving George as the only deep safety. I'm not one to complain about refs much........but geez oh weez was that horrible. Just awful management of the flow of the game and we got ZERO calls, and every ticky-tack call went against us. Trying to discredit these wins to "luck" really pisses me off. We've had plenty of crap go against us these past 2 seasons and I know you all wouldn't be giving Bowden the benefit of the doubt if we were losing close games. You know...like against Troy. Our team has been winning these games on the field. Give them credit. Go Zips! Kent State still sucks! No let down.... Win the MAC!! Oh one last thing....the @Zipmeister is alive!

What if for some odd reason the Zips don't get invited to a bowl game @Balsy ? What if the Zips go 6-6 and then win their bowl game @kreed5120 ?

this guy says he is not playing, Trollboi12. https://twitter.com/TrollBoi12/status/930509250895515648

I'm just so worried about going 5-7 for the umpteenth time under TB. I counted my chickens last year before they hatched and we lost 4 straight and went from 5-3 to 5-7. Only bright side is if it happens is that I won't have any issue with him being fired. 6-6 is sort of a toss up to me. Would prob be fine with whatever direction Larry W. wants to go. 7-5, and MAC champ birth and he keeps his job/few year extension, no more than 3.

LePear Toles Commits to Akron
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
KD really must have some dirt on skip for as much as he has been going out of his way to defend the "Akron" guy who Akron wasn't good enough for. -
You'd think, but 0-2 Iowa State has a 15 point loss to Mizzou and an 18 point loss to Milwaukee.
-
What will Jackson, Riak, and Lester be listed as??? I would guess at least another 1 of them will be RSophs as I remember all of them being younger.
-
It's college football. You play the game for a reason. I can think of many examples this year where the box score just doesn't make sense. Go Zips!
-
Biggin' tonight. I've only been able to scrap together 1 other to go...and thats the girlfriend so she doesn't count. Going to try a few more old college buddies still living in Akron. I really don't think OU is that "great" of a team, but damn I can't get that Toledo result out of my head. Gonna have to bring it tonight fellas!

Duquesne Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot
LZIp replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I don't hate KD, but I'm not rooting for him to succeed, that's for sure. -
I can only find stats ranking the top 250 in APG, but I'd be willing to bet that is #1 or close to it in the nation among centers. No centers were listed in the top 250 which bottomed out at 3.5apg.

This is a great point. Jimond did benefit a lot from moving without the ball while it was in the post last season.

I agree that there is *probably* some liability issue somewhere in here that needs to be considered, but the U still sells alcohol regardless.....Does lowering the price point open themselves up to some other liability that isn't already accounted for? Heck in my mind its them operating more along the lines of a non-profit university as they wouldn't be selling products for a large mark-up. Public institution or not, the "professional" sports teams apparently have the liability angle figured out. I would be hard pressed to believe that any of these deaths on campus came directly as a result of students ONLY drinking beer. There is no reason the staff cannot cutoff students who are visibly intoxicated, just like any other establishment does. I think it does go towards solving the long term issues. When I think of Rubber Ducks games I think of cheap fun. When students think of football games, it would go a long way towards thinking of it as cheap fun.
-
I don't think its that rare of a promotion. The Rubberducks do $1 beer night weekly. It was a big draw when I was a student.
-
^^In all of the talk last night by the @Zips_Nation twitter account (is there any affiliation?), I saw a GREAT recommendation to get students to games that has somehow never been brought up before. $1 dollar beer!
-
Could be many reasons, some of which have already been pointed out. I mean Coach Groce did have him inserted into the game early and has had a chance to see him all through camp and in multiple scrimmages vs other D-1 opponents. Obviously he has shown something. Calling a true freshman a "project at best" after 2 minutes of playing time in their first game ever is a huge reach. Even if he doesn't show much his freshman year, that doesn't make him a "project at best".
-
My god. The kid has played 2 minutes ever!
-
Yep. Some members of ZN.O brought up Anthony Stewart (their HC) during our coaching search, and wanted him pretty bad IIRC.
-
One last thing regarding this game for me (and if I am wrong tell me): I actually noticed our assistant coaches coaching for once. I did not notice that with the prior staff.
-
Cotton's play didn't bother me too much. Running point in your first game as a true fresh probably isn't easy for anyone. Kostelac and his lack of minutes stuck to me as well, and I agree re: Ivey. Wasn't his best game, but did seem to settle after he was yanked early in the 2nd half. I really, REALLY liked our FT shooting as team. That's a more than refreshing change if we can keep that up.
