  1. I don't know Kato personally, but I'm not sure bashing of him is warranted based on what we know or don't know. I don't see him posting or saying the things his father says. Unfortunately (and naturally) that is the perception you will get when his father acts as a mouth piece. My thoughts: I had a good time. Not too bad of a drive to Detroit at all and we are lucky to have the MAC Championship for football (and basketball) in short driving distance at such great facilities. I would consider going there annually even if the Zips aren't there. I've never really spent time in Detroit and it reminds me quite a bit of Cleveland. It was a nice atmosphere and felt.....like an actual real college football environment for once. I didn't hate the pregame party, but it most definitely was not worth $35 for a so-so breakfast buffet and cheers. I would not do it again. Regarding the game, I'll start with coaching. Can't say I'm too pleased with the offense or defensive coaching yesterday, more so the offense. I do not agree with benching Kato mid-way through the first quarter. The O wasn't effective (not all his fault), but its not like the game was getting away from us either at that point. Woody wasn't effective either. Yeah he had the TD call back but anyone on the roster should have been able to execute that play to a wide open TE. It was one of the most disappointing halves of offense I can recall during the Bowden era. What was it, 88 yards? Then I knew Gasser's kick was going to get blocked. I still am not sure he is better than O'leary, (even though that isn't saying much). I believe that is 3 straight weeks now where a kick has been blocked. Then we bench Tommy for Kato. That's something Hue Jackson would do and that isn't a compliment, even though it worked out. The whole QB carousel definitely did not cost us the game, though. The defense did a good job forcing turnovers, but it doesn't seem like any adjustments were made from game 1 to game 2. Maybe Toledo is just that good though (and they probably are). Just a ton of talent on offense and I think both of the Johnson WRs will be back next season. I did like how the team never gave up. It would have been the easy thing to do. Even though the game was over, we fought back, made it look respectable, and actually ended up beating the spread. Made some nice plays in the 4th. Kato took maybe one of the hardest hits I've ever seen a QB take. You could tell he was really hurting, but he looked able to go back in if the coaches want. Kelley led a nice drive as well. Even though we got spanked, great programs like Miami, Auburn, and TCU actually ended up losing by more than us yesterday. Funny thing is, Auburn spanked Georgia just a few weeks ago! It happens. Point is to hold off on the ridiculous knee jerk reactions that losing to by far the best team in the league has somehow undone everything that has happened the past month of the season. Progress was made this year. We obviously aren't striking gold overnight with the Bowden regime, but there is no question that the program is still trending upward under him. Let's regroup and get ready to go out and try and win this bowl game. I don't recall any serious injuries yesterday.Alvin's looked bad, but he went back in IIRC. I also hope our wait to go to Detroit again comes a lot sooner than the 12 years it was this time.
  2. Hustlebelt is catching on to Lavar Nelson. I feel for Kato.
  3. At least for this year, we've also offered their WR Nate Bauer who is committed to Toledo. They also have other guys going to high power 5 programs on the line. I'm not sure if any other are D-1 prospects this year, but I would guess so if I were a betting man. Outside of that, other players like their QB and RBs are all under classman I believe. They were up 42-14 on Winton Woods at the half. Seems they let up in the 2nd half. Makes me feel less bad about Barbeton getting spanked as it looks like Hoban is just that good. I would have liked to see them play for the D1 title just for the heck of it.
  4. Just wanted to take this off topic for at least one post. I forget what I was listening to a few months ago, but it was an interview with Coney. He said part of the reason he ended up here when he was looking to transfer is because his cousin was here and had good things to say about the program. The cousin was Mr. Coe. I suspect @Cykron is familiar with Mr. Coe. We liked him a lot!
  5. 1.35 mil, in 2015 at least.
  6. Who cares??? They should be marketing it, no matter what the interest is.
  7. Not sure where to put this, but a nice read about Bowden/Amato's time here. Seems they were aware (and Zipsnation had an accurate pulse) that their job was on the line this season. http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2017/11/terry_bowden_chuck_amato_akron_zips.html
  8. They seem to score a lot, but don't play much defense. Sounds par for the course for a D'Antoni-led squad. Beat the Thundering Turd!
  9. A freshman QB kicking their ass is what happened
  10. I did. Figured why not. Still not sure I see the value in $35 for a 1.5 hour "party" where alcohol isn't included....but oh well!
  11. Sounds like bobcatattack as well.
  12. That post was made back in September, when the 1-3 Zips struggled to beat BGSU.
  13. So B&G has the inside scoop then I thought I remembered Blunt played LB when I watched a few games earlier in the year. Then again, I can hardly remember everything I did yesterday.
  14. Has anyone received info regarding their tickets yet? The rep told me I would receive all kinds of info, but I haven't gotten any emails yet. Hopefully he didn't write it down wrong!
  15. Like others have said, I liked Ivey's game last night. That's what we need from him going forward. Take it to the hole when there is an opening and let the jump shots come to you. We need make some mistakes that lead me to think we aren't a very good team right now, albeit winning. Was it Parrish who had a dumb foul towards the end of the game?? Anyways, hopefully those types of mistakes are just a sign of youth and we'll continue to work those kinks out. Utomi...........sheesh. We are 4 games into his sophomore season, and I haven't been a fan near as long as some of you, but I think he's the best all around player I've seen in the program. If he can continue to score like he has been, I think we can hang with anyone on our schedule. Then again, his off nights could be ugly because it seems we are really only getting more than a bucket here and there out of Utomi, Ivey, Duvivier, Sayles, and sometimes Parrish. The only consistent one seems like its been Utomi.
  16. I was thinking the same thing.
  17. Well, Keener either quit the site again or was banned, but he asked me to quote his post for the record so I'm doing it!
  18. Like I said...personal preferences for me is Florida or Detroit. If its in Boise again I doubt I would go just due to cost/inconvenience. I doubt the players care too much, they seemed to enjoy themselves the last time we were out there. But a game against the most overrated QB this decade (Josh Allen) would probably get us the most exposure out of any of the games! I would like the chance for our DBs to pick him off a few times and embarrass him.
  19. I know we are talking about different sports here, but don't tell me you wouldn't have rather faced Kent with stakes on the line for both teams last Tuesday. I'm glad we won and glad we are where we are, but a competitive Kent makes it more fun. Look no further than OU and why some consider them a bigger rival than Kent anymore.
  20. His name is Kostas Antekokpoumpos (not going to look up this spelling, but I think you'll get the point). I believe he was a top 100 ranked player coming out of HS but I believe he had to redshirt last year due to injury. He is the brother of NBA phenom Giannis and the youngest of 4 brothers. While he is a big man (6'11" I believe), he is supposed to be the best shooter in his family. I haven't seen him shoot much in the 2 games I've watched though. He definitely influenced the game when he was in there, but him minutes were limited due to foul trouble. I'm a big fan of Giannis, so thats why I'm intrigued by him.
  21. I appreciate the insight! I'm no recruiter, but I like everything I've seen/heard about him. We don't have a QB in this class yet so I hope he ends up getting an offer from us.
  22. Really just need more out of Ivey, Parrish, and Duvivier if you want to win a game like this. Or offense from anybody outside of Sayles and Utomi. I'm pretty disappointed with Ivey so far this season. Saw him getting into it with the coaching staff last game and he really hasn't brought much to the table yet. Yes he is dealing with a new system, but so is everyone else. I hope he can get it going.
  23. Turns out I am wrong. Leaving all of these guys open for 3s seems to be what is costing us.
  24. Just about as bad of a start to the 2nd half as you could think of.
