Bortles may have been the worst starter in the NFL last season. Somewhat lackluster is putting it very lightly. Same with Carr. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-10-types-of-nfl-quarterbacks/

maybe some of the know-it-alls on here should ref since there is an apparent shortage  Three things in life..death, taxes, and the refs out to get Akron.
-
I can't speak highly enough of what Coach Kest has done with this program.
-
So our leading scorer does not start, plays above average defense, 4th best points per 40 in the conference, and is 6th on the team in minutes. Does not compute. And we demolished this team at home. Most certainly shouldn't lose to this team.

He has recognized his mistakes many times. However, since we are at the point in the discussion where my posts are being edited and even deleted because they don't meet the status quo, you can research it if you care enough and do not believe me.

The point is to educate ZN.o posters on the history of our coaches so that maybe they will not be so hypocritical (related to Tressel, the topic), even if it gets in the way of our biases. Not to throw current or former UA coaches underneath the bus. I'm sorry I don't live in a fairy tale world and pretend everybody is perfect. I can recognize when somebody messes up, forgive them for their faults, and move on from it.

The original post was sourced. The Darkside of college football by Paul Davis April 24, 2001. Look it up, skip and let me know what you think. Our coach has been involved in cover ups much more substantial than players exchanging earned memorabilia for tattoos. Unlike some others, I don't hold people's mistakes against them for eternity.
-
That's fine and all. But maybe let's not be so hypocritical when our own CFB coach doesn't have so much of a squeaky clean record either when it comes to ethics? Off the record interview with Paul Davis April 24, 2001 that is all over the internet Interview with Terry Bowden April 24, 2001, at his Loachapoka ranch.

You guys realize it doesn't take all the much to get into the CFB HOF right? I mean John Cooper is in it. Nor is it based on FBS success only. Tressel's pops, Lee Tressel is also in the CFB HOF, and he only ever coached at Baldwin Wallace. But I get it, some people have an irrational dislike for the guy and nothing is going to change that.

It appears the refs were calling a tight game tonight. Something the Zips could have taken advantage of like Toledo did. Aggressive defense and neglecting getting the ball to the paint is a formula for disaster when that is happening. The starting PG, SG, and backup PG/SG were top 3 in the team in shots taken. All 3 are perimeter players. What else do we expect? Our starting center and slashing guard led the team in FTs. Coincidence? It's the nature of the beast. I bet OU was pretty low in the conference on FT attempts during the Cooper years. Basically, get used to it if this is going to be our new identity.
-
I'll go ahead and leave this here as a friendly reminder of the discussion about being obsessed with the 3 ball in the Coppin St thread. Toledo shot 11 3. We shot nearly 3 times that much at 27.
-
I would like Youngstown St too. Not sure why Akron fans seem to be so against it. My guess is afraid.
-
does someone on here also run the Zips Mbb twitter account? Akron Zips MBB @ZipsMBB 29s30 seconds ago Zips already called for 4 fouls, Toledo just 1. UT has shot 16 free throws to just 2 by the Zips. #ZipsCity #ZipsGameday

Can't believe I forgot about him considering the remarkable thought provoking opinions he contributed to the forum.
-
Not sure why there would be. Also he will be involved with the coin toss at the CFB National championship.
-
I get your point because i am the same way in basketball. Not sure why people complain about the top MAC program playing other top MAC programs (eg. We were "screwed" for having to play WMU and Toledo in crossover games). I''m not ready for that in football though, at least until we take our program to another level. Concentrate on beating the teams we are supposed to beat first. JMO.
-
Toledo is talented, but it really could go either way. They have some disappointing losses thus far. If we play like we did against WMU, I don't see how we won't win.
-
So we may have missed an opportunity (pure speculation) for St. John's to come here when they had Jakarr Sampson. Who are some other Akron kids out there and who do they play for?
-
My expectations are 7-5 and getting the wagon wheel back at minimum. 5-7 and things won't be good. I will be disappointed with 6-6 but wouldn't complain too much as it would be improvement. CMU I don't think will be as good. They lose two big time playmakers in Rawls and Davis. BG will be tough as always. Not sure what to think about OU. The others are cupcakes. I know this is a "conference" schedule thread, but I'm real interested in the Pitt game next season. They return the stud RB and WR if I'm not mistaken, and in my mind, Narduzzi is a step up over Chryst. Hard to tell how the team will adjust to a new HC though. They play Youngstown State the week before us, which I don't see them taking lightly as YSU beat them a few years ago and now Pelini is there. Plus it's Narduzzi's hometown team. They also have Iowa right after us and then ND after that. Nobody they can really afford to look past.

not trying to be a downer on Ivey, but if he was as good as some of you think he will be, why would he be greyshirted? Not that its a bad thing at all because both are nice players as freshman, but KD chose to go with Jackson Jr. and Robotham over him.
-
Very similiar schedule to last year. If we don't have a winnig record...
-
So who all is down for the game at The Score (FKA Pints) Friday? I'll be there if you guys want to try and put together something. Eddie's Cheesesteak is also located in the establishment. I am a fan
-
Trevor Knight was very disappointing this season. I had Oklahoma picked to play in the playoff at the beginning of the year LOL. It looks like we wont gave to deal with DGB next season. Who all is planning on going to the game? I'm definitely going to if things work out the way I am planning at work.
-
I think it is a great idea. I nominate The Score (old Pints). They have quite a decent amount of Zips gear around the bar, run special deals on game day (as far as I know Zips and Cleveland pro teams, no OSU), and have done a nice job remodeling the place. Business doesn't seem great when I have been there, though. Hometown-ey establishments like that deserve support. I ate at a very hometown restaurant the other day called MVR. I'm sure some on here have eaten there before. Does Akron have a place like that? Not to my knowledge. I've never been a fan of watch partys in the valley. Who the hell wants to drive to the valley? A lot more students/recent alums live downtown or near campus.

The 2015 Football Commitment List
LZIp replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
No matter what your opinion is of them, there are a lot of people who pay close attention to those sites. Like I said, for the most part, the top programs in the MAC are at the top of their lists and the bottom programs are at the bottom. Do you think that is a coincidence? Do the coaches think they are bullshit? Who cares. Play along. WMU has been ranked the top of the league the past two years. The just had Jarvion Franklin (A TRUE FRESHMAN RB) win MAC OPOY. The sites aren't worthless. Frankly, and no disrespect, but nothing I've seen so far makes me think our coaching staff is smarter on the recruiting trail than every other coach in CFB. I'm not freaking out like a-zip. I'm actually not freaking out at all, but lets not act like the sites are worthless.
