I think you are joking, but if not, there is a huge disparity between an athletic men's team vs. an average athletic men's team compared to an athletic women's team vs. average women's teams. Anyway, great win and lets hope the men's team will follow through with a similiar effort tommorow (since it's after midnight) I should say later today.Regardless, point is proven. Athleticism does not win basketball games on its own. The negativity regarding Can't being "more athletic" on this board is ridiculous. Can't won because they wanted it more and executed better...period. The Zips can beat them if they play their game and play with some more heart.

Well, then I guess every team that's ever lost in a national championship, especially those that showed themselves better than their opponent, "choked". No but our soccer team technically didn't "choke". One player may have choked but to say the team choked when they played such good soccer and still lost is wrong.

They/you are right, individual sports are 1% as important as team sports in the big picture. The Wall Street Journal is a great publication and to even have the conference mentioned in it is good as many people will see that article.

Awesome site, Goddard's stats are amazing.The kid averaged almost a point per minute playing only 3 minutes per appearance. That's impressive for a shooter to not have any time to get hot but just in come in and score at that rate.

IMO that was a great move by him.I agree. Though 20% of the people who received this first went "We have a new athletic director?" and 70% went "so that's our athletic director's name"

I'm not exactly sure people are claiming him to be a great coach, I just think people want him to succeed because he's classy. I've ripped on him hard this year for his coaching and I still don't like his coaching, but I will always love how classy his program is.Sure that's likely. Also, no doubt as other have stated he is a huge improvement over what we used to have. But i dont see him as the one who will take us over the top and into a true powerhouse. Forgive me for using this as an example but he's no Caleb Porter. Porter may have the best players on the field and had a great program to step into but he also has something else. Not sure what it is but he definitely has something.

Just watched it tonight again ...funny seeing this thread.btw, the movie didn't win any awards but was nominated for a Black Reel award and an Independent Spirit Award both for Best Documentary. It lost to "Good Hair" for the first one and "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" for the Spirit award (just last week). I haven't seen "Good Hair" (though it looks stupid) but i can tell you that "Anvil!" is pretty good. It's about a Canadian metal band that never hit it big but influenced many other big time bands. It's too bad "More Than a Game" had to go up against it.

Landing Sampson is a pipedream. Mainly because he's going to be able to pick just about whoever he wants. Secondly, he's not a true hometown kid. He lives in Cuyahoga County (Solon). The way Zeke was playing last night I would have put him in less than Dambrot did. He looked like a deer in the headlights. There were at least two possessions when he forced absolutely terrible shots instead of kicking it out and resetting the play. He played good defense against some of the teams we played earlier in the season with smaller players, but with Kents size and speed he got burned time and time again last night. When someone drives he lets them put up the shot and then relies on his timing to block it, then shakes his head while running back down the court because he missed again. I kept waiting to see Bardo last night, just to rough up Green and put a bigger body in the middle if nothing else, and KD never put him in. Is he hurt? I vaguely remember a thread a weak or two ago mentioning it but didn't read it. I also feel like we're really limiting Nik by playing him as a center. I'm suprised no one's mentioned how he played yesterday. He seemed to feed off the energy while everyone else was rushing shots and playing scared. He was cutting to the hoop, moving the ball, and playing lights out D as a forward.You're right, there were two players on the floor last night that looked like they wanted it and played smart basketball: Ronnie Steward and Nik Cventenivic. Everyone else seemed to fold under the pressure. Nikola is going to be one hell of a player by the time he's a senior.

I agree...Zeke is one thing that we definitely under use. It's getting ridiculous seeing us killed on the boards and down low when we have a 7 footer sitting on the bench.

Ummmm... Yes they completely choked. Not sure where you get this bizarre kant state recruiting advantage from. We've got the same "level" of mac "players" as we've had for the past five years and then some. And I'm not sure where you get this "taller" idea from, except for maybe our back court, but this loss has nothing to do with our shorter, quicker back court players. We've got all the size and athleticism up front that we want against some team like pansy frat boy state. From what I've seen over the years is that THIS particular Zips teams gets a lot more rattled than those teams we had a few years back. It just seems to me like when this team gets the screws tightened against them every guy that gets the ball feels like he NEEDS to make a play. That's completely wrong, Akron is based around the team concept, they need to TRUST THE SYSTEM and play the team basketball that Coach Dambrot has laid out for them. I know we have a deep offensive playbook but in order for it all to work we need every single player firing like pistons in a row, exactly where and when they are supposed to fire, the complete team game, in order to put any "legitimate" competition in their place. Didn't happen tonight, adrenaline and bravado got in the way of the "business" that the Zips usually conduct. Make the pass, find the open player, Kant give a Sh*t U is no different than anyone else in this conference. I think that may be one of the hazards of having a coach who is so focused on defense. I personally have no problem with stressing D if it results in winning more games. But obsessing over D to the point that it becomes a detriment to offense is not so good.I don't know if this is what's happening with KD and the Zips, but it's probably worth considering along with all the other possibilities.It's not the focus on defense that hurts our shooters. It's the lack of any offensive rhythm due to too much subbing. How can a guy like McNees or McClannahan get into any sort of shooting rhythm when they are only in for one shot/2 minutes at a time?

How many dunks did we have tonight? How about Can't? You mention rebounds but don't you think athletic ability plays a little part in that? You can point out our shooting percentage, but our shots were being contested. Any three pointer we took was rushed. You can cite turnovers, but again Can't has longer, quicker guards and they were clogging the passing lanes. There were a lot of tipped passes tonight. We were afraid to move the ball around and settled for terrible shots. Then you figure Can't has three to four guys on the floor at any given time who could beat you. Tonight it was Simpson who killed us. The reason we beat these guys last year is that they still didn't have their heads screwed on right. To Geno's credit, he's got his guys playing together and now they are wreaking havoc on the conference with their raw talent and athleticism. It seems that we don't have an answer for this team, and that worried me even before the game. Just saying....You love quoting every article you read...that's all i've learned.Did you watch the game?
