  1. I missed it but heard Channel and one of the Mercy players were jawing each other at the end.
  2. Nothing like a 7 minute time out for some silly contest in the middle of a run. Nice win. I haven't seen an example of daddy ball like that since my kid played 5th grade basketball. Davis's kid must have taken 30 shots and daddy loses his mind and he gets a T when the kid gets called for a foul late. Well done dad. Lots to like about the performance but still some things to work on. Mercy is on the level of a bottom third MAC team. A good test this early, but 2/3 of the MAC teams will be better. I hope Riak won't be out long. They could use him. If I see Jayden Sayles turn to go for a rebound and not put his body on an opponent's body one more time, I may lose my mind. It seemed to take them a little while to find that hole in the zone, at the elbow with Daniel and JImond. Once they figured that out and Mercy failed to adjust, they did well.
  3. Highlight so far is the two dizzy spin kids running into each other and going down at mid-court.
  4. First zone we've seen for any extended period at the JAR this year.
  5. Ummmm. Game is 5:00 Zips fans.
  6. I just realized that Detroit's coach, Mike Davis, is the same Mike Davis that coached Indiana a while back. I think he succeeded Bobby Knight. I see that Mike Davis Jr.. is one of his assistants. Between that and his other kid being on the team, he's get the full benefit of Detroit Mercy! Here's a nice pre-season preview of the Titans- http://horizonleague.org/news/2018/10/22/mens-basketball-2018-19-hlmbb-preview-detroit-mercy.aspx
  7. Here to help!
  8. Agreed, finally a good gauge.
  9. At last, a decent team, the Detroit Mercy Titans, comes to the JAR Saturday evening. Detroit is led by freshman Antoine Davis, the second leading scorer in the country at 30 ppg. There is indeed an advantage to being the coach's kid, as the head coach is Antoine's dad. The JAR hasn't seen a father/son, coach/player combo like this since the McDermotts with Creighton. Detroit Mercy may as well join the MAC. They are 3-4, with wins against BGSU and EMU and losses to WMU and PCCC.
  10. Toles was okay, just not completely there yet. Looks a little like he's still finding his way and building some confidence. He almost looks like a guy coming off of an injury that took him out for an extended period of time, if that makes any sense.
  11. Tale of two halves. Very ugly first half then they got into the flow in the second half. Alabama State is pretty damn awful Very encouraged by Jeremy Roscoe. He's substantially better than I anticipated. It looks like Groce is starting to settle into a rotation and experimenting with things to get ready for the MAC.
  12. Great GT article today- https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181127/university-of-akron-football-zips-still-have-plenty-of-motivation-for-season-finale To save you all the time, I will summarize the article- the season has sucked; beating SC would make it suck less; most likely, it will still really suck.
  13. Sorry, I am out of the loop on this. What's up?
  14. The Hornets are in town. Feel the buzz.
  15. Actually, their school motto is "We're Not Coppin State."
  16. Some facts about Alabama State: Alabama State University (ASU), founded in 1867, is a public historically black university located in Montgomery, Alabama, United States. ASU is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Alabama State University has nearly 6,000 students from more than 42 states and over twenty countries. Sports teams participate in NCAA Division I (FCS – Football Championship Subdivision for football) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), which it joined in 1982.
  17. The 2-3 Alabama State Hornets come to the JAR Wednesday night. They've beaten LaGrange and Birmingham Southern and lost to Iowa State, South Dakota State and Iowa. 6-3 junior guard Reginald Lee leads the Hornets at 16.4 ppg. 6-8 sophomore center Brandon Johnson (from Garfield Heights) leads all rebounders at 8 rpg. They average 75 ppg. The Zips handled the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville. Here's hoping they handle their cousins, the Hornets.
  18. This makes me want to puke.
  19. Oops, jumped the gun! LOL. I would not be in favor of Tyrell but figured it was just a matter of time before we started hearing the name. I think there's a step on the ladder between Hoban and a place like UA that he's have to do, like a D2 or D3 school, before I'd feel comfortable with him here.
  20. Kehres' dad would never leave Mount Union. I have a sneaking suspicion his kid is cut from the same mold. Hard to break away from a national championship every other year or so to jump into an uncertain situation. I like the Loefller suggestion. Here's a reach- how about a high school coach that's won 4 straight Ohio high school championships? He's also right here in Akron.
  21. Nice way to finish. Really two decent performances and one clunker. I'd be curious to know the reason for not starting Utomi. He could be a great sixth man but he's probably the best player so he doesn't belong on the bench at the start of the game. I have to wonder if there was some minor rule infraction.
  22. How about KenPom? LOL.
  23. Damn, there goes our at-large bid. I was on the road today, so I was unable to participate in the misery. This program is a work in progress. If they are here at this time next year, I will be unhappy, but we have to be patient. Plus, football brings me enough misery. I need hope in some program.
  24. I'm pretty sure it was just to try to get him up to speed. That's how it looked.
  25. He was really getting his feet under him Friday night. Looked a little lost on offense and defense and quite rusty. I suspect the staff just didn't think he was "ready for prime time." I think he'll get there. It will just take a little time.
