I'm just curious as to what everyone else thinks. I kind of liked the old Charlie Coles way of scheduling OOC opponents for Miami. They got beaten up and bruised playing those high level P5 teams and also sacrificed total wins for the season, however they were really prepared for tournament play whether it be MAC Tourney or NCAA Tourney. What would you think of hiring a coach with that type of philosophy?
After thinking about all of this for nearly a day, there is one thing I can't get out of my head and it scares me to death. I do not want to go through all the years of torture again that I experienced when Huggins left Akron and we brought in Coleman Crawford. Those were the worst years of Akron basketball and I never want to experience that again!
I pretty much have the same list of players. The one player I would add for sure is Kurt Mangum, the LB transfer from Washington. He was an absolute stud for the one year we had him. It seemed like he made every tackle that year. Unfortunately Jatavis wasn't developed as a player yet as he was only a Freshman, but imagine the two of them on the field together in their prime.
The game was concerning to me in many ways. I guess the thing that bothered me the most was committing four traveling violations in the span of 9 minutes! Everything spiraled out of control due to that. You could see it on Dambrot's face, the players faces and in their body language. It was a hard game to watch.
My favorite quote from Dre Williams in that article: "So now every single school we're playing against when I'm at Akron, I'm taking it as, 'You guys passed me up, so I'm playing with a chip on my shoulder, every game, as big as a house.' "
I think we got a good one here. Strong arm, nice touch on his passes, athletic and sees the field well finding the open receiver. Based on what I see so far, I would say he is potentially one of the best QB's we've landed in a long time.
On a side note, he also has great receivers. Lol
I understand Woodson has a bad shoulder and that affects our team dramatically, but how can there be such a drop in talent/performance when Chapman comes in? He was originally a Pitt recruit. How is this possible?
I feel we'd definitely have a good chance at beating some of the teams listed ahead of us including Chattanooga, UT Arlington and Long Beach State. Would love to get some of them on a future OOC schedule.
All I know is, I can't take this defense much longer. I realize we lost some great players to graduation and injury, but this is just awful and painful to watch.
