  1. I totally agree. I also want to play get on some sort of rotation to play Cincy.
  2. Ellet HS 1987 Akron BSBA 1993 Advertising/Marketing Still in the Ellet area.
  3. Yes. I thought the exact same thing when I was watching.
  4. Ask the LSU offense if the line play is important. Anyone who watched that game last night saw what a dominating defensive line can do to a good team. Alabama's d line made LSU look like our 2011 offense. I hope we can put together a dominating defensive line and and offensive line that will allow us time to make plays.
  5. Amato was a great D Coordinator at FSU. He's one of those guys that is a great coordinator, but not so much at being head coach. I like this hire if it happens.
  6. Here's an interesting quote also. "According to the source, Bowden reached out to Akron."

  8. big time football name family member. Sounds like Bowden
  9. Canton Repository just posted that they spoke with Tressel's people and that he has been at his home all day in columbus and that he is not taking a coaching job at Akron. Urban Meyer wasn't talking to Ohio State last week about coaching either.
  10. I like that idea!
  11. Formula is hire an experienced HC that has a history of consistent winning and running a good program. There are many D1-AA coaches out there that fit the bill. I'm not opposed to that either, but proven coordinators for former HC's rom BCS schools should also be considered. I think you even said so yourself in a post the other day. Just don't hire anymore stinking recruiting coordinators or position coaches with little or no experience. In almost 25 years since joining 1A, this school still hasn't figured out how to hire a football coach. Yes, I did say that. I have no problem with a coordinator. If it's the right one. They can be tricky though. They haven't been the head dog and some aren't cut out for HC. Some coordinators are great until they become the HC and then they forget all knowledge of football. I agree about no more freaking position coaches though. John Harbough was a position coach (so was the Atlanta HC I think). There really is not set formula. I think you should look at programs that have a history of hiring good coaches and emulate their evaluation process. Call the Steelers. They always know how to hire a HC.
  12. +1. But these are interesting times. I've been a religious follower of UA basketball for about 20-years now, but the early-season success we experienced in beating a BCS team is uncharted waters for me. IIRC, we've always lost those early-season matchups. I'm still concerned about Valpo & Duquesne this weekend. I am new to internet communication lingo. What does IIRC mean?? "If I Recall Correctly" It took me awhile too!
  13. AND...did anyone notice we are one of the "Others Receiving Votes" in the AP Poll?
  14. Based on good information; do not expect an official announcement until next Thursday. According to MaxPreps he committed. http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/UdlPmOIMB...ake-kretzer.htm
  15. Anytime you are ranked above Arizona and St John's in basketball it's good. Especially considering they have one more win as well. I know, I know...it doesn't really mean much at this point, but I'll take it!
  16. Did anyone else notice that the Projected NCAA Tournament Field link further down on the page shows Akron in the tourney as a#14 seed playing Kansas? That's a good sign as well, however I would hope we could get a higher seed.
  17. You gotta explain how the probability of losing in OT was better than 43%. I need to see that one. That's an easy one. We have lost 87% of the time this year and 90% of the time since ICoach has been here. So, whether we went for two at the end or kicked the extra point to go to OT, we most likely would still lose the game. I'm just saying that it was nice to see us playing aggressive to "try" to win at the end of the game. Let's be honest...how many other games did it look like we were trying to win?
  18. Lol. Question the FG over Trying for TD? If we don't have the 3 there we are down 4 at end of game. For the rest. You Always question him not going for it and punting or like Zach picking the sure 3 over a chance TD, but then get mad he goes aggressive when we have chance to win the game? You are idiots. We are playing for wins now. You have a team confused, no confidence and wounded. You go for the kill!!! If we are 4-2 you go for OT, we are 1-6 so you go for the kill. Most of you need to attend the football 101 (I know it's for ladies that's my point).I agree. When you are struggling as bad as this team, you go for the win when you have the chance. In all probability, if we kicked the extra point, we would've still lost the game in overtime. That's just the kind of season we are having. We all want our team to win. I was glad to see he actually "tried" to win instead of continuing the "process" into overtime.
  19. Redshirt him now. Why blow his Freshman year? We have a lot of depth already and by the sounds of things the players will be really fighting for minutes anyway. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, a redshirt can still practice with the team. This will allow him to recover fully without trying to rush him along and cause more problems. Once he is fully recovered he can practice and be even more prepared/polished coming into the 2012-2013 season and have four full years of eligibility.
  20. For those who prefer a written summary, here is Tom Gaffney's article in today's Beacon. Here's my favorite quote. This is in regard to converting 24% on 3rd down. “We have had issues in that area. First and second down greatly affects third down,” Ianello said. REALLY, who knew?!?!?! Can you tell us more? Ridiculous.
  21. The University of Akron basically IS downtown Akron.
  22. All we can do is hope! Hope.......for Akron to suddenly have the kind of money that a school like Arizona has, which allows them to make that kind of decision. And...was this Arizona coach only 1-1/2 years into a 5 year contract? So how many here would be okay with a 5-55 record after 5 seasons if his wins and losses continue on the current path? Actually, he is on pace for 6.7 wins. :-) Okay...6.7-53.3 Now I feel much better!

  25. There is really only one way to make sure the above doesn't happen...everyone with season tickets must cancel them and not renew until a change is made. I've been trying to get friends, family and even strangers to have interest in the Zips since the early 80's. Sadly, I can't even get myself to a game anymore. In all seriousness, I'm not sure I would even go if I were given free tickets. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I can't take it anymore. The football program has become a joke and it makes me sick!
