Sounds like Larry will choose either Akron or BG. I found this on the Balanced Ledger blog on the Beacon Journal website. We need to get this kid to commit. He's the real deal and has excellent grades!—North senior running back Larry Dawson said he’s received offers from the University of Akron, Bowling Green State Univesity and Army. Dawson said he hasn’t made a decision where he will go, but he knows what he wants.“I want to be comfortable,” said Dawson, who has a 3.8 grade-point average. “I want to be on a team where I at least know one person. I want to be somewhere we can compete.”At BG, Dawson said he knows former Walsh Jesuit standout running back Mark Wooldridge. At UA, Dawson said he knows former Buchtel standout running back Bryan Williams.

I liked what Rasor had to say about Almondo Sewell. He's already penciled in as the starter at DE, which is a completely new position for him. I knew he was going to be a great player and so far he's exceeding my expectations.

I saw the same ad on the electronic billboard on Rt 8 south by the University on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Don't you think that if Roger's had already passed Hakes a week or so ago then he (Hakes) saw the writing on the wall? That's what I read into the Hakes departure and the sudden emergence of Rodgers as a possible starter?

There is no way we should be ranked below #70 in the country. This guy seems to be pretty clueless. Even though Travis and Joyce were great, I don't feel like we are losing much overall with the talent we still have plus the excellent recruits coming in.

The original rock is probably the size of a bowling ball. There has got to be 10,000 layers of paint on that thing.
-
Even though we are missing some big time recruits from the past year or so which is very disappointing, I still like the looks of our current roster. We have some very good freshman and sophomores right now. Let's hope they develop into some great players. I fully expect that to happen!

Army rated the worst team in football.
blueandgold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't put much faith in these rankings. For one, how could BG be rated 12 spots higher than us? They are not a good football team. Miami is rated higher as well. I feel we should beat both of those teams this year. -
What's with our WR recruits? I was hoping for Hill to step right in for Harvey and we wouldn't miss a beat. So much for that. Looks like we have an extra scholorship available now.

"Humpty" commits to UA
blueandgold replied to ziptrumpet87's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Sounds like we landed a great recruit. Things keep getting brighter for Akron basketball! -
According to Rivals it sounds like he was recruited pretty heavily by BCS schools. Sounds like we landed a good player. Let's hope he keeps his verbal commitment!

Drive on Route 8 south just past campus. Be sure to do it at night for the full effect. It's on the right. FYI. The one on Interstate 76 is just before the Rt 91 underpass heading eastbound. The Interstate 77 billboard is between Copley Rd and White Pond Dr.

Okay.I bet if the public knew when, and what time the games where, they might go too.If there was only a way to get a big poster and hang it over a major highway in Akron...now that would be cool. :rolleyes:PS I still remember the Jason Taylor one on Exchange Street a long time ago. I wish I took a photo of that.PSS I will be taking a photo of the new Portage County Pansy one on 43 soon for a new contest, stay tuned... I think the University should take advantage of the new digital/electronic billboards on Rt 8, Interstate 77 and on Interstate 76 to promote our teams more. Start putting up schedules, pictures and whatever. Those new billboards really catch your attention. Start advertising!!! Yes, they should start advertising, but billboards are not the way to go. History has proven to us that billboards don't work. They may sell other things, but Zip tickets are not one of them. Let Can't have every one of them if they want. They will get the same results we did.......poor.My understanding is that ticket sales are up from last year (they were up last year as well). OSU is probably a good reason for that, but they are still up and that's all that matters. All done without a single billboard. Amazing.I don't know what to make of our current marketing department. I may not always agree with them, but they seem to be getting results after years of declining ticket sales. They must know something I don't. Results are all that matter.Media guide looks good too. I agree with Dr Z. We just need to be seen as much as possible. That along with winning games will build awareness and support. I'm not a huge fan of billboards either, but I will tell you that everytime I drive by one of those new electronic billboards I can't help but look at it.

Unless I missed them in the previous lists, it looks like Miami will be the only MAC team to crack the top 50.
-
Based on these rankings it looks like the MAC would have to be rated as one of the worst, if not the worst IA football conferences. 5 of the worst 19 teams and 9 out of the 44 worst are MAC schools.

I agree. I have Dish Network and love it. I always hated Time Warner and dropped them about 6 years ago. I've seen every Zip game on ESPNU when I wasn't able to attend in person. Is the new AT&T programming satellite or cable?
-
Yes, I have noticed this myself. Hopefully it will pay off by having all signees actually in class and on the team.

VanDelay Picks Zips #1 in the East
blueandgold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The one thing I don't agree with is that we have no one from our defense on the first or second team all MAC teams. -
You make too much sense ziptrumpet87! lol That is a great idea.
-
That is great news! He could be a monster on the DL for us.

Hawai'i Recruiting the Rubber City
blueandgold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I love my alma mater...but if I had a chance to play football in Hawai'i I'd have a difficult time turning that one down. 85 degrees and sunny in December, or turning the corner onto Exchange by Plasma Alliance when it is 0 degrees with a -25 windchill....AH LOW HA, baby! If he selected Miami OH or Toledo over the Zips, then I'd be a bit miffed. I know what you are saying. I guess I would think somewhat like that as well, but still I think he should play for Akron. -
Hawai'i Recruiting the Rubber City
blueandgold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Maybe it's just me, but I would think that Akron would be at the top of his list considering that his dad is the defensive coordinator. I would think that coach Fleming could get his own son to play here. If not, what does that say about us? He lives here, his dad coaches here and then he picks another school? I don't like the thought of it. -
No, you will not get an "official" explanation. But you have to look at some history involving the Mack Rhoades regime. The turn over has been high, which you always expect with a new AD. But this was Mack's hire after Donnie Darr left for Oklahoma State for a similiar role. Tom is a first class individual. He had a five year plan and was making the most of it the first year, he won and recruited very well. Tom has always been close to Herb, they are good friends. All I can say today is that Tom made the move that made sense for him. He is a local guy and wants to stay in the area. I am not going out on a limb saying that Mack is not the leader everyone thinks he is. There will be more turn over in the department. Inside the athletic department is pure hell for some individuals. This administration is dirty and you have yet to see how dirty it is going to get. Wait til Basketball season comes around and we will have this discussion again. This does not sound good. The last two sentences really bother me.

He's lucky. That could have been tragic. Hopefully it's just a flesh wound and no damage to his muscles, bones or tendons.
