  1. Don't worry about pleasing the students. They are not paying attention at halftime anyway. Take a look next time. Most people that are watching and enjoying the halftime show are alumni and others in the community. I have seen quite a few good ideas on this thread already.
  2. I've been thinking the same thing all week!
  3. Let's hope Hipsher ends up at BG. We need two guaranteed MAC East wins each season.
  4. AwesomeDude: What I am saying is that people want excitement, something to get them pumped up for the games. Sure, Karricker is a nice guy with nice credentials, but Corps style walking...err marching is boring. As far as trying it out. I've done it, both styles. I can tell you that people get excited over high energy, high step marching and I believe it is much more difficult to master. I was part of "Ohio's Pride" for several years and contrary to many of the band members beliefs, people are there for the football game, not the marching band. I'm not bashing the band. I'm just stating the obvious. I like the band. I don't like the current marching style and I'm not the only one. The band is there to add to the excitement of the game and that is not happening. Don't take it personally.
  5. Many do suck. I've been to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse and that did not suck. And zipsbandman... I agree, but people will be asking for a new arena for basketball in less than 10-15 years. I hear it already. lol
  6. Football, Men's soccer, women's soccer, basketball (hey, let's throw tennis in also) and professional soccer... Oh, is this where Wolstein is going to have his team practice or just play? I would think if I made a financial investment I would want to have a say in when my team would get to use the facility (as would JD, Keith, Caleb and Catherine). Oh, are we going to provide locker space for Wolstein? Will he need a team clubhouse? Will their logo go above or below Zippy? It's not negative. Do you want to really share a venue with a professional team? Sounds good in this chat area, but the reality is a big scheduling headache when you do not have full control.Ah, the retail space. Do we split the profits? Why would we do that if we own the land? We build a stadium and lease it out to Wolstein to play his games. At least that would provide some revenue and maybe help keep ticket prices down. My comments were not endorsing the idea of Wolstein being involved, only of making the facility domed and multi-functional.
  7. I would be in favor of this myself. Not only could it be used for other sporting events outside of the university teams, it would also solve the problem of the outdated JAR and it's seating capacity that we are hoping to grow out of. What would cost more? xu9697's idea or building a completely separate basketball facility in addition to the current football stadium plan?
  8. Let the search for a new band director begin!
  9. I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame video Man! I got goosebumps just watching that on my little computer screen!!! Too cool! If that doesn't give you pumped up nothing will! That's the way it was and that's the way it should be now!
  10. The band always sounded fine in the past when doing the high step. Formations work fine, limit the backwards movement. I think it was changed because it is difficult and no one wants to put in the time to master it.
  11. "barry bonds" writes dumbass comments all the time. An obvious Can't alum
  12. Thanks Zip Watcher. You found the corrent one! I think we need to be in the other one though. It has much better participants! And would give us much better exposure and competition.
  13. I did some checking. According to www.goseawolves.com the teams participating in the Great Alaska Shootout in 2007 doesn't list Akron, not does it show Oregon State and Colorado State. Maybe a lot has changed since their list was put together. Here are the teams listed:Butler, Liberty, Gonzaga, Michigan, Texas Tech, Washington State, Western Kentucky and host UAA.
  14. Did anyone see this in the Beacon today? Sounds promising!Dambrot will be taking the team to the Alaska tournament (Great Alaska Shootout I believe). Oregon State and Colorado State will be in it so far. We will play Temple at the JAR, and maybe Saint Louis Univ. Possible road games at Clemson, Mississippi State or a Big Ten school if we can fit into one of their schedules. Also it mentioned that he is more determined than ever to make it work here at Akron!
  15. I'll take it.
  16. That sucks. Miami Oh, Northern Illinois, Temple and Toledo are options. WTF!
  17. What a great selection! I've never seen most of them before.
  18. In the NIT the mid-major team should host the game. Mid-majors are excited to be in any post season tournament for the exposure, whereas the so called "big" schools or BCS schools don't care and will have poor fan support.
  19. I was listing to WKNR on the way home from work yesterday. Host Kenny Roda has Kelly Butler (OL from the Browns) as a guest host every week. They were just talking about March Madness and out of the blue Kelly Butler said. "What happened to Akron?" "I can't believe they didn't make the NCAA tournament and it's unbelievable that they aren't even in the NIT." (paraphrased). It was nice to hear that a professional athlete took notice to the ridiculousness of the tournament selections.
  20. BZip_08Temple can get home games of that caliber because they play at Lincoln Financial Field. The Philadelphia Eagles home field.
  21. I don't believe it is going to be televised in the Akron/Cleveland area.
  22. The bad news is another conference, Colonial, is making a move past the MAC further limiting additional bids for us. Last year they had George Mason, the VCU win adds more credibility to them.
  23. As soon as I saw Stanford in the tourney the other day I new it was BS. They suck.
  24. Definitely bring back the high step hard swinging style. This walking around crap is boring. Don't worry about the music majors. If they can't handle that style I guess they can pick a different major. Play hard!!!!!!!
  25. It doesn't matter cause Can't STATES gonna own the AK-NOT Zippers next year. You guys are never gonna put a team out on the court like this again. GO Can't
