Maybe it's because at the 10 minute mark of the second half the foul count was about 7 for OU, 1 for Akron. I think Akron definetly got the majority of the calls in the second half. The refs weren't the best either way, they players dealt with it. And it all evened out. Solid performance by two team who will probably meet up again in Cleveland.

I definetly think Akron would have beat Toledo in the JAR last year. I wouldnt say crushed, because its never easy to crush anyone...Toledo was the one who got the automatic bid as "conference champ" to the NIT though... Either way, not a big deal. Its more a case of semantics. In my opinion, the team that gets the #1 seed in the tournament "won" the regular season. And which ever team wins the tournament is tournament champions. Again, just my opinion.

Yes the west was weaker last year, but UT took care of business, including winning the head to head matchup. (Yes I know it was at Toledo) Did Akron win the overall MAC Championship last season? no. Were they the best team all season? yesOn the topic of the game. The Zips better not use recent history as a reason look past this game. I think everyone agrees you have to defend home court against the other top 3 teams (Miami, Ohio, Can't)

Two teams from the same conference can't play in the Bracketbuster...

I was at that game. It wasn't just Bubba. No one showed up. Plus OU has Tim O'Shea, which evens every game out

If I'm not mistaken, they usually use RPI and geography to determine the matchups.I searched the web real quick and found this PDF with the home vs. road teams. The best matchups would obviously be George Mason, Drake, Creighton, Nevada etc... But VCU or Wright St. seem more realistic.http://www.tribeathletics.com/files/mbb/20...cketbusters.pdfI also found this link to the Holy Cross message baord, where someones been doing RPI based projections. He has the Zips playing Illinois st. or Virginia Commonwealth as of 1/7.http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?fo...6404&page=2

I was actually at this game. It was more so the Bobcats annual TOS underperformance. The way they played would be similar to the Zips only giving Wood the ball 4 times against BG. The Bobcats went in expecting an easy win. No road game in the MAC is easy... <cough> @ UB <cough>On a related note, it was my first trip to Anderson Arena... Ive never been to an arena, College or High School, there the backboard were tethered to the ceiling with cables that were in play. A missed shot actually nipped one of them and was called out of bounds. As for the game @ UB, I think the Zips should have little trouble with UB if they actually show up. I dont think they have anyone who can gaurd Wood and expect a big game from him.

As I said, in watching the game live, I thought it was shots, but theres no point in beating a dead horse, they made the call... I was just tossing ideas out there. My comment about looking past the Zips was not directed at the coaches, but at the players. Id expect the coaches to continually praise a team who just took them to double OT. And I think jumping out to the lead early made the Dayton players down shift a gear to be honest. Something they realized was a mistake quickly. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Zips. That performance makes the team and conference proud. The MAC needs Akron, Ohio, Miami and Can't to all do well in conference play. It needs its top teams to separate. Something that hasnt happened in a long time...

Wonder if the call had anything to do with the fact that, by rule, you have to have atleast .3 seconds to get a shot off. Anything less and it has to be a tip. Not arguing, just throwing it out there. In watching the game, I still think they looked past Akron and the early lead just perpetuated that. Just my 2 cents...

My guess is he called the bump when dials caught the ball, Dials continued to shoot as the whistle blew, and the home town clock operator had a slow finger. Too many blown chances to hang this on one bad play.

McNeese impressed me tonight. Akron was definetly pumped for this game, and i got the feeling UD was looking past the zips. Question is, can they play with the intensity we saw tonight @ Miami and @ Ohio (we all know they will at Can't)

Hollis Thomas is a DT for the saints out of NIU, I would put him on in place of Muir. Raheem Brock (Temple) has had a Good career for the Colts at DE, and could be inter changable with Babin. Temple also has Dan Klecko (DL Colts) and Jason McKie (FB Chi). Nixk Kazur (OT Toledo / NE) would make a great backup too. Toledo has 7 players listed on active rosters...ESPN's player index can be sorted by school ===> LINK

Akrons RPI was 66, with a SOS of 177. 177 wasn't even in the top half last year. Nevada was the only team we played in the top 86, and they were a bracketbuster return game. Thats a defeatist attitude if I have ever heard one. "They won't come play us here and it wont matter anyway so let's not even try." Heck, this kind of OOC schedule is part of the reason the MAC only gets one bid. How is the overall perception (and RPI rank) of the conference supposed to improve if one of it's top teams are playing one of the worst schedules in D1? So now, when Akron beats Miami (RPI 40), or K.e.n.t (60), or Ohio (39), it drags their RPI (and the conference perception) down. Don't get me wrong, I dont think we need to schedule 5 top ten teams, but some mid level power conference teams would be nice. Even if it's one game (ONE GAME!) wouldn't you rather see how the zips stack up against an Illinois, or a Maryland instead of the Binghamtons of the world? That's just my two cents though...
-
I dont believe the non-D1 games count towards RPI...realtimerpi.com has A&T at 173 (S.O.S 54) while the zips are 167 (S.O.S 320)

I'd agree with the assesment. Id probably rank them Miami, Ohio, K.e.n.t, Akron right now, simply because Miami and Ohio have those road wins. I'd like to see K.e.n.t win a game outside of K.e.n.t (somewhere other than Youngstown St. I mean) before putting them 1 or 2. The top 4 just need to make sure they take care of business against UB / BG and the west... These 4 would make a great final 4 in Cleveland. Akron-K.e.n.t and Miami-OU on a friday night might sell the place out.The key to scheduling these teams is getting them at the right time. Ohio hit Maryland on a down cycle. Not to say UMD isnt a good team, just not top of the ACC good. Let's see how they do on ESPN2 tommorrow.

I dont think theres a single team that doesnt inflate their attendance What helps OU, is they can seat 13,000 so if they get Miami on a Moms, or Dads weekend or something, they can inflate the stats. If Akron had a bigger arena, how many tickets could they sell of the Can't game?

OU, along with Ball St. and Toledo are definetly the top MAC teams for drawing fans... Source - ncaa.org 2005 Attendance 2006 Attendance 2007 Attendance Average home attendance for MAC teams... Portland St. may be #78 right now in the RPI, but they only have 1 more game against a team ranked higher than 119 and their remaining opponents average rank is 204. Unless they run the table, theres no where to go but down. Obviously winning at Dayton would be great, but it's always a tough place to play, even when they arent playing as well as they are right now. Id say Zips fans should be rooting for Temple, they seem to have a good chance to improve. The Zips SOS is currently 314 out of 341, including 3 games against teams ranked in the 300's (SC Upstate, Binghamton, and NC-Central). Outside of Dayton, no remaining OOC game will significantly change that. Any schedule ranked sub-200 I would call weak. Id say the schedule is better than BG, on par with Buffalo, and well behind Ohio, K.e.n.t., and Miami. I just don't see how this schedule is preparing the team for the MAC...But hey thats jusy my a**hole.. er... opinion, what do i know...

Toldeo had 3901 CMU 2558.I wouldnt read too much in to the OU attendance, with them being on quarters, their students havent been on campus since before Thanksgiving.K.e.n.t.'s arena hold 6000+, I cant believe they wouldnt be closer to a sell out against GMU.

Zippy's lead down to just over 300, and hairy has over taken goldy

Id voted for Goldy. Maybe its just my dislike for the SEC and their fans who think their craps smell of cinnamon and roses...

The second link takes you to the updated AP Poll on SI's web site. You have to choose the coaches poll from the drop down list. The link below has both polls on the same page. Akron gets 2 points (could be two 25th place votes or one 24th place vote) in the AP and no points in the CNN/SI Coaches poll. They are the only MAC team to recieve any votes...http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/ncb/rankingsindex
