  1. I believe it is the first week in august.... i kn ow that is what it was last year and if they switched it, it wouldnt be much later then 2nd week of august because all the other big schools are starting camp on august 4th
  2. I coach a kid here in ellet who plays for the ellet youth football org. his skills are probably just as good, if not better then this kid (cody's). The only difference is he is 10, not 8. I will post a few of our home games if anyone would like to come and see him in action. this kid will be one of the best players in the state by the time he is a senior in hs.... and he already loves the akron zips.
  3. I have listed some links to video for prospects that we have offered, and what i think of them as i watched their highlight films. let me know what you all think after seeing the films. 4. I seen this kid play a few times this year, against Ellet, Buchtel and Garfield. If I remember correctly the kid has decent speed, is strong and has good size. I will get ahold of the coach from Akron East to find out a little bit more about him ( any offers, 40 time, an size) this week.http://scoutingohio.com/Demetrius_Bentley_Akron_East.htm
  5. yeah he said he is going to honor his original committment to the zips. he committed to the zips, then reniged an went with FL. ATLANTIC........... but he has since enrolled in a prep school and decided to honor his original committment to us.
  6. I recently wrote an email to Jarvis Givens and just got a reply from him, and he assured me that he is going to honor his original committment to the Zips. He is currently enrolled in a prep school to help get him ready for college life and to get his grades up a little bit more. He seems like he is excited to join us. He also said he has been working on his speed. his official stats are 6'2 302 LBS and he said he has been running consistant 4.9-5.1 in the 40 yard dash. Will be another BIG addition to our lacking depth at DL with both him and Ryan Bain ( transfer from iowa) joining the team after the 2007 season.
  7. I pretty much agree with each thing you said cap. I wouldnt be suprised to see gary pride returning some kick offs and punts this year. He is a fast back who twists, turns, spins, an dives to get into the endzone........... just what we need in a football player and has anyone heard any information about their annual Meet the Zips event that they have? Usually it is the last week in august, but it has been earlier then that a few times i think.
  8. Do they still have the "impact" players? If so who are they?
  9. I signed onto yahoo and was reading the sports section of it. It is amazing how many of the college athletes ( who are supposed to be setting examples for youth) are getting into trouble anymore. I wonder what the consequences for these players actions will be. It makes me glad that J.D is now recruiting the players who are football players, students and all around good people. Here are some of the headlines.1.) Gophers CB faces sex misconduct charges.2.) Gopher players arrested in assault case.3.) UGA player charged in attack near Lake Allatoona.4.) U of SC Richardson arrested on drug charges.5.) Former Michigan WR charged with assault.6.) U of Miami QB injured, another player charged in crash.
  10. wow, he looks like a pretty big kid. and his upside is out of this world. to be ranked as one of the top players at your position after just 1 year of football is almost unheard of.
  11. last i heard from matt cherry, he was with the bengals. but i am not sure if he gave up football to pursue his own entertainment business that he was starting or not. Cherry has "retired" from the nfl to manage his entertainment business. He had a myspace page for himself/the company a year back or so. I did a quick search today and couldnt find it. If anyone is bored, look around. As I can recall, it was somewhat amusing. he still has the page. yeah it is pretty funny. his display name is now just cherry

  13. Cobrani Mixon, a LB from Colerain who helped them win the State Championship against Canton Mckinley Has decided to transfer from the University of Michigan, to our hated rival Can't State. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he must sit out a year. He was a redshirt freshman at michigan, but the coaching staff really liked his combination of size, strength and speed. As a senior at Colerain, this kid was a MONSTER. he was all over the field. He had 135 tackles as a senior, and 2 INT. He also had over 100 tackles as a junior and 12 TFL,6 sacks......and that was without playing 3 weeks due to an injury. I wish we could got this kid, because with him and "Mondo" at LB we would without a doubt had been the best LB group in the MAC.
  14. i think that if schepp has another decent year he could very well be on that list. after kemme and alleman, he was probably the most reliable OL that we had on the roster. I could also see a few of our defensive players at least getting a shot on an NFL team.
  15. sorry but your facts are wrong. beachum is not rated as the best linebacker in the nation by any publications. Rivals has him listed as a RB (4 star) scout has him listed as a RB also ( 3 star)neither Rivals.com or scout.com have OKL. as a school that has offered beachum, but they have offered Hill and mccarthy.Oh and you say that not many big schools have offered mcarthy...LSU, Michigan, ND, OSU, OKlahoma, Stanford, Penn State, Boston College and UCLA have all offered him Listen buddy. I live in Youngstown, I watch the Youngstown sports shows, I know whats up. I may have graduated from the rival Ursuline High School; but I got my connections.Zordich is going to Penn St.McCarthy is going to Mooney.----------------------------------Beachum, in the publications at Barnes and Nobles, ranks him #1 LB recruit in America. He is going to Oklahoma or LSU; he has 26 D1 Offers.Taylor Hill will go to OU or LSU too. glad to know you live in youngstown.. but as far as you saying mccarthy is going to mooney, i believe he is already there...... and i am glad that you have your connections, because I have talked to Hill personally and he did tell me he liked akron and that they still do have a chance at getting him.

  17. I will ask my uncle, who owns a roofing company who is insured for hail repair ha ha. it would be nice if akron came into a large donation to have the JAR renovated ( or a new one built). Id like to have the old track taken out on the sides and seats taken all the way up. I seen this in another arena ( cant remember which one) and it didnt look bad. I know it wouldnt add a ton more seats, but it would add a few more to create a louder enviorment for the other schools.
  18. Just read an article about him, he has his top schools down to 5 and Akron is included. but the bad news is it says he will be narrowing his list down to 2 schools very soon, and the front runners look to be Ohio State and Notre Dame. hopefully this report is wrong, but i dont see us grabbing this guy...... oh well, we still have hope for his fellow HS teammate, T. Hill who is a standout LB who has offers from alot of bigger schools, but likes akron alot because of the staff and facilities he said.
  19. my brother is a big broncos fan, and he said that he has read that hixon has an edge over morgan due to a recent injury that morgan got. im not sure if this is true, but he knows what he is talkin about when it comes to the broncos.
  20. 4.58 isnt much speed for a D1 defensive back. our DB are typically running in the 4.4-low 4.51 range. With his size and speed he would make a decent D2 or D3 college player.....but i could be wrong.
  21. wow, looks like things are just starting to surface and it could only get worse for the university and their programs. It really does make me ( and im sure all of us) appreciate what dambrot has done for this program and university....im glad he got his extension and will be our coach for a number of years to come.
  22. with strength like that he is probably stronger then most of our DL also.... that is amazing the power he has shown already.
  23. chris mcknight? in the headline he spelled his last name wrong so if you copied an pasted it thats probably why nothing showed up... i knew who he ment though.

  25. Corey Lewis, a 6-foot-7, 292-pound offensive tackle from East Stroudsburg South High School in East Stroudsburg, Pa., decided to commit to the University of Virginia tonight after discussing the school with his father over the week following his unofficial visit there. Lewis also held written scholarship offers from Temple, Connecticut and Akron, but in the end his heart was in Virginia. He really enjoyed his visit to Akron and liked the coaching staff, but he felt that the Cavaliers had more to offer to him.
