NWAkron
I don't see a letdown from the team in this game. I think it may start off a bit rough for them with all the excitement and it being senior night. (as if i'm a sports shrink). but the pressure is on Cant. I dont forsee them suddenly going cold at home.

There's a 20-foot crater where a steam pipe burst right outside the JAR. Good. It's WAY too hot in that place, and will be even hotter with 5k packed into that place. 2 hours ago, Blue & Gold said: Can't believe this will be Jake & Reggie's final game in the JAR I was thinking the same thing. It seems like they've been here forever. And they are two first-class guys who have laid it on the line for us for 4 years, and really epitomize the Dambrot era at UA.

This gives some perspective. Besides Forsythe (done for the year), Kretzer has played virtually all season with turf toe. McAdams has a back problem, Jackson a bad shoulder. Big Dog has missed practices with an ankle sprain, but, like McAdams, has played in every game. Robotham sat out the first six games after tearing his ACL in 2015. “We’re still a work in progress,” KD said. “But there’s not many teams in America that can make 20 threes, go 19 and 20 in successive games. We’ve got some tools to work with.”

Despite that, this could be a classic letdown spot after cutting down the nets Tuesday night. I'd be lying if i said I wasn't worried about this one as the flashes have everything to gain and we do not. I knew if I lived long enough I'd find a Hip Zip post I disagreed with. Dambrot's teams don't play for regular season championships...they play for MAC Tournament championships. I think the net-cutting ceremony was only a blip on their march towards cutting down the real nets in Cleveland. The Zips were humiliated in K.e.n.t. Now they have the Flashes on their home court, on Senior Night and on ESPN2. We'll have 6 days of rest prior to the next game, so I don't see KD or the team taking their foot off the pedal. If we lose tonight, it's because K.e.n.t's better than us. Seeing how our guards matched up in Game #1, that's my biggest concern. Antino, Noah, Jimond and Josh need to play a lot better tonight. Reggie and Kwan are rolling. Big Dog's on the big stage. Should be an awesome night in Akron tonight. Looking forward to a couple beers and a steak sandwich at The Score before the game, and a celebratory one...or two afterwards! Go Zips!

I really felt like Ken+ was able to guard the shooters on the perimeter better than any team we played this year. It was also devastating to see Hall and Spicer combine for 39 points in the paint. But Ken+ is going to see a different team tonight. That team that went to Ken+ a few weeks ago was still trying to figure out how to play with a shortage of post players. But I really think the key tonight is that the juiced-up crowd will be able to help our guys create more turnovers. And I think that's going to create an entirely different outcome.

The big thing that I noticed on how Kent guards us compared to other teams is that Kent is content letting Big Dog back his man down and get shots near the rim while most other teams have sent help defense to force Big Dog to pass which has led to open looks from 3. blueandgold
I really feel like the Zips are gonna make a statement tonight. Aside from beating the hated rival, winning this game knocks Kent out of a first round bye for the tournament which would be great.

That was part of it. But that's far from the only thing we do to create 3-point shots. We run some set plays, and a ton of screens up top in motion offense to try to free the shooters, and they did a great job staying with people. This isn't Ken+'s most talented team, by a long shot, but they are still quicker and more athletic at the guard positions than most teams in the MAC. 1981 grad
Congratulations to our seniors. They are the epitome of a student athlete and represent the best of the University of Akron. I think Kent will see a different team than they did at Kent. Aaron Jackson and Jimond Ivey were not part a part of the regular lineup when we played in Kent and I think they are more athletic and out team will play better defense than what we saw in Kent. Also, Reggie had a bad shooting night at Kent and he has been on fire. I think we will see more dribble drives from our players. On defense KD will do everything he can to force Kent to shoot from the outside so we do not give up the dribble drive. I think we will also see more intensity from the players than we saw at Kent where they seemed very flat. Go Zips!

Balsy
Let's make it a great final game for Reggie and Jake. And let's hope the Zips follow that up with a tremendous showing in Cleveland next week. Go Zips!
burrdie
Good luck Zips drown Kent i think they will unleash the baskets and 3 pointers KD should just let them run and score, less control They have potential for high scoring win

kreed5120
It's a tad disappointing that it took this late into the season for Akron to sell out its 1st game when they play such an exciting brand of basketball and have been successful at home. Just look at how easy things are now for the students.
