UA'71
There was lots of talk on the recruiting thread about SVSM's Jayvon Graves "getting away" from Akron. I imagine he was well aware of how things were going with Josh Williams and was seriously dissuaded from choosing the Zips.

Jayvon & Josh are very different players. Josh pretty much turned into a one-trick-pony 3-ball shooter whereas Jayvon is an athletic, slashing guard (which we desperately need more of). Because it could be interpreted as, "Forget about it, the relationship already sucks & you just have no idea." Which are you going for there? I ask because STVM is not the pipeline I wish it were & it's had me scratching my head for a while.

You are spot on about Jayvon's style of play, but that isn't Dambrot's offense. Buffalo's offense is a perfect fit for Graves. I follow SVSM and have watched him for four years. Jayvon is a heads up player, he plays within himself, and keeps his cool on the court.

I would hope Jayvon would know that his minutes would be fine if he played better. Noah, Antino, and Jimond played better than Josh - and this is coming from a person who was always high on Josh. Jayvon Graves and Jon Williiams are teamates and best friends. Jayvon and Josh were also teammates. I think through that close relationship Graves would be aware that Josh (and the Williams' family) was unhappy with how things were going. After all, I doubt Josh woke up this morning and announced "I think I want to transfer."

Meaning he WAS a slashing guard....? And Jayvon is a slashing guard?

And Jayvon is a slashing guard? Josh lost his confidence driving to the hole. He had a much more difficult time beating his man than he did in high school. He started simply hanging outside, waiting for the ball... after a while Josh wouldn't even hardly dribble the ball. He either wanted to catch-and-shoot or pass it. Even his outside shot was off this year. Seemed to really get in his head. In high school he could do whatever he wanted on the court. He just wasn't quick enough at this level. Graves on the other hand gets to the rack.

Looks a lot better and more effortless against Hoban than Kent St. Wait and see on Jayvon before the comparison begins. They play the same way in HS, while Josh was a better shooter. Slashing, they were the same. Above the rim, Jayvon. Edited March 25, 2017 by Blackburn

Let'sGoZips94
Everything I've heard about Josh is that he's a great person off the court. That, to me, means this is automatically a big loss. However, with this news, I can't help but think that his body language all season foreshadowed these events. He may be a half step too slow for this level, but he also seemed like he didn't necessarily want to be here. Just an observation. Wishing Josh nothing but the best.

UA'71
After I thought about this discussion, I think I erred in my earlier comment. Graves committed to Buffalo early in the basketball season. I think well before Josh Williams would have thought about transferring. I still do think though, because of Jayvon's closeness with Jon, he was aware all was not roses with Josh.. I could be wrong too. BTW, FWIW - I just got back from Columbus where SVSM won their 7th SC, 45-30, over Wauseon. Jayvon carried the team, more than I would have liked, with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 7 steals, 1 assist. He shot 10-18, rest of the team was 9-29. Wauseon was worse. I think the bright lights, arena, big game had an effect on all but one. If anyone is interested, @STVMATHLETICS has lots of video from the game. Edited March 25, 2017 by UA'71

I was wondering if Eubanks would transfer down since he basically got no PT this year. Idk, but VerbalCommits.com lists Eubanks as a walk on. Anyone know if that is accurate? zippy5
Honestly if this opens up a scholarship for a JUCO big, it could be a blessing in disguise
clarkwgriswold
Only Josh knows why Josh is transferring. He may want to play with his brother. He may not like his spot on the depth chart. He may not like the Zips offensive scheme. He may hate the weather. Who knows other than Josh. Whatever reason it is from the multitude of possible reasons, that's the present nature of college basketball. All I know is that he volunteered at a youth basketball camp run by a friend, was great to everyone involved and the kids loved him. At the end of the day, he represented the Zips well and I wish him luck. As for the ZIps, if they were going to lose someone, I guess it's best that it was a guard due to their depth. Hopefully, as someone else mentioned, a big shows up in his place and with the McKinley kid can help bolster our thin group of bigs.
