If you didn't read it on here or gozips you wouldn't have known to attend on a rainy weeknight right after work. I have to admit that I didn't hear about it until after it had taken place, but I had been out of town that entire period on a business trip. I'm not surprised that there was little knowledge of the event. I'm just hoping that a decent amount of people showed up, but I have no idea what some of you mean by "nobody". kreed5120
We are on page 16 of the Groce discussion. Like CK said I'm not sure what is left to talk about until we actually see stuff happen. This thread has the 9th most replies (and growing) on the entire basketball forum with the #1 being the coaching search thread, the #2 being the 4 year running Duquesne/Dambrot thread. There has been plenty of discussion. In fact, the basketball board has never been this active.
skip-zip
I was hoping someone could tell me how many people were in attendance at the Meet and Greet event. I know at least a few of you guys were there since I already heard the Cookie Stories.

kreed5120
If we can't get 2,000 people to show up to a 6PM Tuesday game (I'm talking actual butts in the seats) when the date is picked months in advance and the time ~14 days in advance, I'm not sure why anyone would expect we'd have hundreds of people show up to a meet and greet on 24 hours notice and that's assuming you follow Zips social media and actually saw it in your feed to know it was taking place. Agreed. Like I said, I already had somewhere I had to be that night. Wasn't much of a heads up for me to be able to move my schedule around. I would like to see them hold another meet and greet and announce it at least a month in advance, and then advertise it. I guarantee you that more people would show up to that one if they have time to work their schedule around. As for not talking about Zips Basketball for a few days, there's not much more that can be said. The fact we've been talking about cookies, LSU academics, Boals/OSU recruiting, etc. tells me that we're all waiting for news. We have a lot of question marks, and not a lot of answers right now. But this year I have been checking the board to find out if KD is leaving, who our coach is going to be, what players are leaving, and what new players are coming. This board is more active than during the season. Maybe we should change coaches more than once in every 12 years to generate more interest in Akron basketball. I'm sure it would, as long as they don't wait too long so that the "newness" of the situation hasn't worn off. But, I was just trying to find out how many people attended. I think there's a few posters here who think I am entering a debate over why there should have or shouldn't have been more people there. I don't even know how many people were even there. That's the likely consequence of any change like this. Especially when you had a guy here for so long who certainly had his loyal supporters. I personally know one other big supporter who's already indicated his extreme displeasure over the change, and says he's done. You just have to hope that some of them come back sooner rather than later once the dust settles, and/or a new group of supporters emerges. I can tell you that I am already being asked to meet to indicate what I plan to do for the upcoming year. I am far from deciding yet. Everyone is going to handle this in different ways, and I have no idea what the overall thought is among the majority of money-givers yet. ZachTheZip
If the athletics department has any kind of intelligence (not a guaranteed thing), they'll have Groce make an appearance at the football spring game. It's mostly the same fans and boosters between both sports.

Talk about Sunshine Patriots. Gee, Dambrot bails after telling team he won't. Akron hires a quality coach AND saves the university maybe $800,000 over two years and "they" withdraw $. Quality stuff there . Edited April 12, 2017 by NWAkron

Then I realize they haven't been at every single home and Mac tournament game like I have for the past 12+ years. They all bought into the "20 win" crap. And they will be first too bitch if it goes bad or jump on the bandwagon if goes really well. Edited April 12, 2017 by NWAkron
clarkwgriswold
He was the HIGHEST PAID COACH WITH THE HIGHEST BASKETBALL BUDGET IN THE MAC. Other than get him into another conference or retroactively make his dad an alum, what else could they do for him? They need to realize that they are UA Alums, not University of Dambrot alums. I don't know why it's a shock to some people that there are supporters of a longtime coach who wanted him to be retained, and are pissed that he's not still here. Isn't that going to be the case with any coaching change? I'm sure that we just won't know for a long time how strong that legion of supports is, or how long they might be pissed.
kreed5120
I imagine some people are just fed up with the system and not the university or hire itself. Investing so much for so long only to see who you thought was your golden goose bolt town. I'm not really in a position to judge how others spend their money since I'm not cutting the university 5 or even 4 figure checks for that matter. Maybe one day I will be in a position that I can. Probably more like "$" contributions... If we had high-roller donors we wouldn't have struggled so much to put a basic coat of paint on the JAR. Dambrot left on his on volition. clarkwgriswold
I get the disappointment with losing him, but I don't get the type of anger that results in you withdrawing your money. Maybe if I knew some of the behind the scenes stuff I'd get it.
