At Illinois, he had four players arrested in one year (one was previously arrested the year before) in the 2015-2016 season.

http://writingillini.com/2016/03/17/illinois-basketball-kendrick-nunn-arrested/  Kendrick Nunn - Domestic Battery

http://writingillini.com/2015/08/22/illinois-basketball-darius-paul-dismissed-from-illini/  Darius Paul - Under-aged drinking and resisting arrest. Got kicked off the team. Previously arrested for vandalism, public intoxication, and resisting arrest while on a trip to France.

http://writingillini.com/2016/02/19/illinois-basketball-leron-black-arrested-now-what/  Leron Black - Aggravated Assault

Nobody cares.

I see your concern.

You'll care when it's Akron players that are beating up women and ending up in handcuffs.

Does anyone care about the Bowden recruits in trouble with the law?

Groce is a real breath of fresh air to this program.  And our best player Jimond Ivey is obviously 100% committed to the new coach and Akron.  He's being a leader and was front row center for the new coach.  That is good for me.

I'm absolutely loving me some Jimond Ivey right now.  The way things are shaping up he's going to be on my personal very-short-list of all-time favorite Zips.

Because right now a possible future criminal charge on a player not yet on the Zips team isn't high on my priority list of things to care about.

I agree that I'm not so concerned now because it hasn't happened. However, it is beyond disgusting to read the cavalier attitude some of you seem to have about assault and domestic battery.

I've just moved past the what ifs.  Deal with whatever happens when it happens.  Nobody seems to have a problem with what Brian Bell did.

Anything else?  Are you finished or is there are some more accusations you want to throw out there?

But unless Groce was there encouraging them I'm not that concerned.  Dambrot did PLENTY to try and protect his players who got in these situations.

I wouldn't say that I am ok with assault, but I am not willing to blame Groce for what other men did. He took a couple bad risks, and as far as I can tell, dealt with the issues as well as I would expect from a coach. You never know how a player will respond to an opportunity. Think of all the "high risk" people on our football team right now. The vast majority have been model citizens.

No accusations...just posting about your posts. Would you like to clarify the meaning of them?

Well if anyone cared to do a little research they'd see Nunn and Paul were kicked off the team. Tate had his charges dropped. So as a matter of fact I feel comfortable that if anything like that were to happen here, Groce would handle it the right way.

Thank you. That's reasonable to me.

Zip ME someone reminded me a few months ago that this is an anonymous sports blog...so try not to read so darn much into my postings.  You don't know me or anything about me.

I commented on what you stated...hence the words "seem to" which was in my edited post and had been my intent with the original. So, I will point out the same.

I'm over the grieving stage so I am not trying to dog Dambrot here, but what exactly is he 1 in a million of? At the end of the day he left us on his own terms.. Also read something today that the only reason he didn't bolt before was because TJ McConnell transferred from Duquesne to Arizona in the offseason that they were targeting him, so take that FWIW.

A successful coach at a mid-major who did not move on.  I think his "skeleton" held him back.  A coach with his record in a similar situation without the skeleton would have been gone long ago.

Keith Dambrot took Akron to our first D1 NCAA Tournament appearance in 23 years (back in 2009). He took us there 2 more times. He brought LeBron to support our team and university....and did many other good things for UA some of which we may not all be aware. He is a fellow alumnus and Akron native. He is a good man and a good coach. Why can't all of us just thank him and his family and leave it at that.

I have to agree with you. Duquesne is not really much of a step up. Stronger conference, but no winning tradition at all. Someone with KD's resume (less the skeleton) should have been gone to a major major winning program long ago.

I disagree with the logic. Being content with Akron basically being a stepping stone for coaches to move up is the wrong mentality to have. We should be more focused on building a program from a solid foundation on up. The collegiate sports climate in regards to Basketball & Football is not engraved in stone. We will remain a Mid Major as long as we all believe thats all we can be.

You are not willing to live in reality. We are a stepping stone and always will be if the coach is good. The nature of the beast is to seek and accept bigger and bigger challenges/stages. Look at Dayton. They are way ahead of us in every category for comparison: salary, prestige, facility, rabid fan base, season tickets, attendance, schedule, conference, media exposure, etc. Yet they lose coaches regularly. They don't want to but they do. As much as any coach wants to build his progrum, if he is successful he will be exposed to better opportunities which he will take. Get use to it.
