Z.I.P.
#LeiUp! The DHC released the tournament bracket this morning. Aloha kakahiaka to Coach Groce and his troops. They get the favorites on the first afternoon (7:30/8:00 PM EST on ESPN). http://espnevents.com/diamond-head-classic/bracket/

GJGood
Not bad. Only thing I don't like is that I have seen the Zips play all three teams in our half of the bracket in the not too distant past. I would have liked a little more diversity. Still can't complain about the level of competition.

I see what you did there. Although, in all seriousness, we might see OSUcks on our schedule in years to come. Not sure what the relationship is like between Holtmann and Groce, but there's definitely a history there.

But if there was ever a chance to get a regular season game, it might happen now since they probably will see us as fitting in with some of home game cupcakes that they like to schedule. clarkwgriswold
The Zips head to Hawaii at the end of the week for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. They open with USC (5-3) with Middle Tennessee (7-2) and Princeton (3-6) on the other side of their 4-team bracket. All decent names, but none of the four has looked like world beaters in the early season. Strong enough competition that we should get a good sense of where the Zips are going into the MAC season. clarkwgriswold
If they beat USC, they get the winner of Princeton/MT. If they lose, they get the loser of Princeton/MT in the loser's bracket. If they win that, they get the whoever comes out of the losers' bracket of Davidson, New Mexico State, Miami and Hawaii. Aaaaaah hell, here's the bracket- http://espnevents.com/diamond-head-classic/bracket/ Edited December 17, 2017 by clarkwgriswold

Z.I.P.
Our first round opponent, the Trojans of Southern Cal (I prefer to use their directional indicator nomenclature, as we are very accustomed to beating directional schools) defeated a good UC-Santa Barbara team at home tonight (Sunday). The condoms shot lights-out from early in the evening, running out to a 52-33 halftime lead in winning their second game in a row after dropping three-straight. They made 12 of 23 3-pointers, even missing the last two. Trojans PG Jordan McLaughlin had 19 assists in the game, which is the most in NCAA action since 2012, and tied a PAC-12 record. Clearly, the Zips must defend the motion offense out to 20+ feet from the hoop, while fighting their screens and boxing out underneath. Nick Rakocevich, their 6-11 post had 12 pts and the same number of rebounds. USC is favored to play undefeated Miami in the Classic championship game. I just hope and pray I don't have to attend the 7am Christmas morning game. I believe all games will be broadcast on one or another of the ESPN family of stations. Edited December 18, 2017 by Z.I.P. Z.I.P.
I just saw the DHC "official" bracket and it says that all tournament games will be broadcast on ESPNU, except the second round game between the losers of Akron vs USC and Princeton vs MTSU -- which is on ESPN3. That game's at midnight EST Saturday night/Sunday morning. Edited December 18, 2017 by Z.I.P.
1981 grad
I believe that we have played Middle Tenn numerous times at the Jar and it was always a great non conference game. They always brought lots of fans and we always had great crowds at the games. Would like to get them back on the schdule and lose Miss. State. Captain Kangaroo
MTSU and loyal, long-time coach Kermit Davis have built the mid-major basketball program we all hoped Keith Dambrot could have built at Akron. 25+ wins per year. Winning NCAA tournament games. They've already beaten Vanderbilt and Mississippi this year. Dambrot did a great job at Akron. Davis did a better one at MTSU.
zippy5
MTSU was the perfect mid-major matchup that we should have more of. Teams in the same situation as us that are opportunities for very quality wins.
