This has to be the easiest OOC schedule we've had in years.Hopefully it translates into wins.

Did a double-take when I read this after seeing a game at Clemson!

Akron always has at least 1 game they have no chance of winning of the schedule. New Mexico State and UMass are FBS bottom feeders and YSU is an FCS school. If we were just mediocre MAC, we'd have no trouble going 3-1 with that schedule.

Kreed was saying IF we were only a mediocre MAC team we'd breeze to 3-1... not that we ARE a mediocre MAC team.  I'm just praying we beat YSU ?

Don't count on beating either YSU or NMSU. YSU will be sky high and the Zips won't know what they have in that first game. Making the trip to Las Cruces will be difficult.Actually may go. Have relatives out that way. They recruit from a better talent pool than the Zips. They get some Texas kids the big schools don't want. IF they could 'upset' YSU(ha ha) and beat Umass at home lets take it.

YSU will certainly be no walkover.  A good FCS team should be able to hang with a bad FBS team.

I'm not sure if New Mexico recruiting base is better than Akron's given Ohio's general status as a top 6 or 7 recruiting state.  Not that the Zips have been successful in accessing that talent, but there's a good base here at home.

Not sorry for stating the objectively obvious.

Next year is a new year. We saw what CMU was able to do this season after going 1-11 the year before. A lot of the younger players are going to get bigger and stronger. Coaching staff and players should learn from their mistakes. Recruiting class is good for Akron standards (especially considering the circumstances).33% roster turnover on scholarship players. Let's try not to be too negative about next season until there is a reason to be.

I wouldn't even label YSU a good FCS team right now. Their records the last 3 seasons have been 6-5, 4-7, & 6-6. I'm not saying we'll win as with the season we just had we can't afford to take anyone for granted, but this isn't your Jim Tressel era YSU.

The quality of the surrounding talent pool has a rather small impact on the quality of the recruits a team lands. If it was critical, both NMSU and the Zips would be a lot better than Boise State. Realizing that some on this board don't put a lot of importance on rating stars, I offer  the following which shows that both Akron and NMSU land about the same quality of players. Shown for each team over the last 2.5 recruiting cycles is the 247 Sports recruiting class ranking, total recruits and number of 3-stars in the class. Looks pretty similar to me with an edge for the Zips so far this cycle. Not sure how successful NMSU has been in retaining their recruits, but I know they are one lousy football team. It's like they are the Akron of the southwest.

                                Akron                                                    NMSU

2020                       106 signed 20 / 13-3 stars              136 signed 5 / 4-3 stars

2019                       115 signed 23 / 9-3 stars                119 signed 23 / 9-3 stars

2018                       127 signed 16 / 4-3 stars                125 signed 20 / 6-3 stars
