Our Zips get an opportunity to take revenge on EMU this Tuesday as the 4-7 Eagles come to the JAR.  Game time is still “TBA.”

The Eagles win over the Zips has been the highlight of their disappointing season.  Since beating the Zips they have lost to Toledo, CMU, Buffalo and Miami with none of the games being competitive.  Montero, McBride and 7th year redshirt senior Groce continue to lead the Eagles.

Since beating the Zips by twelve, the Eagles have lost by 33 at Toledo, won by 11 at home against DIII Calvin, lost by 11 at CMU, lost by 15 in Canada and lost by 22 at Miami.

Jeopardy clue-  Adrian, Olivet, Calvin and The University of Akron.

The game tomorrow is at 7:30 and is on ESPN 3.  I can just feel the excitement growing on the board now that we have won 4 games in a row.  We sucked against the zone in their gym.  I expect a better result tomorrow since we seem to shoot better in our own gym.  If our outside shots are not falling we always seem to  struggle.  Looking forward to another Zips win.

I can't remember what exactly Groce was doing last year in that game, but I got into a verbal back and forth with another Zips fan over it. I believe we were intentionally fouling down 3 or less with like a minute left (or something of the sorts) and I just couldn't grasp giving them free points when we didn't need to extend the game at that point.Turns out they sucked at FT shooting, then X hit the game winning 3 as time expired and I looked like the idiot. I still wouldn't have done what he did, but I guess it worked.

That was the craziest game the Zips won that I ever attended.  People in front of me walked out before it was over.  Down by 5 with a minute left.   I think they had to foul and keep extending the game.  And as we know, missing FTs can be contagious on a team.  Groce needed some luck and he got it.  EMU's Spottsville missed both FTs right before X made the winning shot and then Channel took the charge that had him down on the floor while Rob Murphy stormed around screaming at the refs.  That was an important game.  Akron had just loss two in a row (Buffalo at home and Kent on the road) and 2 in a row at home (Toledo and Buffalo).  Zips losing 3 MAC games in a row at home wasn't an option.

Not sure if there is any validity to it, but I've seen some speculation on some message boards that if covid worsens the MAC (and other conferences) may cancel their tournaments and just send the regular season winner to the big dance. I'm a little hesitant to believe as I'd think they would just cancel the tournament if things got that bad, but if there is any validity to it then that makes every regular season game all that more important.

I'm a little concerned we may get an half an hour of Reghi filler or half on hour of Nissan Rogue commercials to span 7 to 7:30.  I guess I'll take the Rogue commercials.

Why is EMU Akron's Achilles heel, and every other MAC team beats them with ease? They do run a weird defense, but their weird defense doesn't trip up other teams... Hopefully, we take care of business tonight (I think we will) and avoid them until next season.

The Zips have won 21 of the last 27 meetings, including 8-of-11 games.

It seems like the Zips have always had problems with the zone, even under KD.  It usually takes them a half or so for them to settle in.  EMU always seems to have a big front line.  It seems like the Zips struggle with then but eventually find their way.

There were a # of close games and Zips always seemed to meet them in Cleveland or maybe its just taken on a life of its own.  Too much of this stuff.

I watched this game at a bar in Daytona Beach with some friends.  My then-fiancee (and now wife) decided to elope and get married.  We ended up with a couple dozen Floridians rooting for the Zips at the end with us.  Great memories.

Was it a q-final in the afternoon?  I seem to remember coming home from work early and turning it on right when all of of this went down.
