The Pirate Mike Leach in critical condition after medical emergency. There isn't a lot of info out there but the way everyone is acting around this situation would lead you to believe this is serious.

Incredibly sad news. Thoughts and prayers are with the Leach family.

On a lighter note, Ohio State is struggling with NIL money, and is becoming an embarrassment of a program under Ryan Day. Apparently there isn't a bottomless bank near his birthplace - 3rd Base.

I have seen the whining on social media. So they end up with the 4th ranked class rather than 1st. Boo hoo.

It will be interesting to see if his success is directly tied to Rowboat Captain Fleck or if he can have success on his own.

From his bio...

Franklin was named All-MAC Second Team and set a Bronco single-game record with 281 rushing yards against Akron.

I personally feel it’s an okay hire. He’s familiar with the MAC, has been on a winning MAC program. But WMU is a lot different than Kent. WMU is paying their head coach $850k. Kent is going to pay this guy a little more than half that. Even back when Fleck was at WMU, their pedigree was pretty close to what it is now.

He’s also never been a head coach, or even a coordinator. I personally believe he will do an okay job, but I expect a learning curve.

I don't really feel strongly one way or another with this hire. Probably someone of credentials is the best they can do given what they're willing to spend. We probably would have had to someone similar had extenuating circumstances not made JoeMo fall into our lap.

Ew. These aren't even recognizable FCS programs.

A sad fact is unless things change around here and stay changed in another 6 years at least half these teams will be ranked better than the Zips.

I don't know if Ken Burns will be a good coach at Kent State or not. What I do know is after 24 hours at Kent State he will be able to produce an 8 part documentary on PBS about why Kent State sucks.

He's a horrible hire. No high level leadership position while a coach. Nobody anyone recognizes. No ties to local recruiting as far as I can tell. Players will be unimpressed. He is going to fail in a big way. Polish up the spot where we keep the Wagon Wheel because the trophy will reside in it next year.

Do we know what his role was expanded to beyond Running Backs?

Nothing I've read about him is very impressive from an intimidating HC standpoint.

EXACTLY!  That is why the transition period is necessary.  I assume there is one for football to become bowl eligible.  Otherwise the skid is greased to allow every FCS program in!

G5 schools are going to get left behind by P5 schools when they ultimately leave the NCAA and start their own division for football. We need to set up our own division before we are stuck with every dreg in FCS.

They don't need to leave the NCAA as the NCAA doesn't really receive any of the football revenue anyways. Without the G5 schools like Ole Miss, Rutgers, Boston College, etc would instantly become annual 1-3 win teams.

The value the G5 has to the P5 is it allows their middle and bottom tier schools to pad their win total enough to keep fans interested. Perennially winning 1-2 games a season kills a fan base. We've witnessed that first hand at Akron. The Big 10, SEC, etc don't want that for their fans. They would rather just keep throwing peanuts at the G5 to keep their fans engaged.
