do you know if you can leave and re-enter the games?

A friend and I asked that very question last year.  We were told yes.  I believe they rescanned the tickets somehow that it would let us back in.  We left, ate dinner and came back and got in without an issue.

I hope you are correct. If you look at the Rocket Mortgage Field House Re Entry Policy, it says "no."

Maybe it varies depending upon how benevolent the ticket attendant is?

I'm only posting this to show what the odds makers believe the MAC Tournament might go / who the favorites are going into Thursday.

One sportsbook's Odds to win MAC Tournament

Kent State +160

Toledo +170

Akron +400

Ohio +1100

Ball State +1500

Buffalo +2500

Northern Illinois +8000

Miami(OH) +13000

***I am by no means suggesting or encouraging anyone to bet on these odds. This is purely for informational gathering and informational sharing. ***

What these odds tell me is they obviously think Kent will beat Akron in the Semifinals and they give Ohio - Ball State a winner a chance against Toledo (I believe the winner will have their odds move similar to where Akron's is once they know who wins that OU-BSU game).

We were surprised as well that they allowed this.

For anyone that will try it, I'd suggest confirming with the attendant beforehand.

Back when we were playing CSU and YSU in rotating years as part of that coaches vs cancer, those programs were cupcakes. YSU, excluding this year, pretty much has always been terrible. CSU goes through periods of being decent, but historically is normally middle of the road to bad.

I much prefer our annual match-up with Marshall as they're consistently pretty solid. However, with the MAC-Sun Belt challenge starting that annual game might be going away so maybe we replace them with a CSU. I really have no desire to play both YSU and CSU annually unless both prove to be consistently competitive. We play enough cupcakes as is.

NWA must be blind with misery thinking about Thursday. Marshall got bounced in the Sun Belt quarters by the 11 seed Texas State.

Texas State was the preseason favorite but was terrible until mid-February, not sure if they had injuries or what but they finished playing much better and it showed in the conference tourney. Just pointing out they may not have been your typical conference 11 seed... would love for the MAC to bring back the early in the week on campus first round games.

They were indeed hot, and nearly made a run to the title game. I was pulling for them. That athletic department has a lot of struggles so it would have been a cool story.

As for the 5-12 first round games, I could take them or leave them. While Groce’s 2010 would have been on the outside looking in, I think the current state of the league justifies the current format. Back then, the top 8-9 teams in the league were in the top 150 or so in D1. Now, the entire bottom half is 200 or below. I wouldn’t have a problem if they brought them back, but I kind of like the idea of the regular season having more stakes. Miami going on a run this year past the likes of a flailing BG and fraudulent EMU is better for the league than everyone getting a chance no matter what.

Agree that the Miami situation this year is an excellent reason to keep the top 8: rewarding a coach and team that hustles and having consequences for bad coaching and lazy players.  I wouldn't mind if they brought them back but this year the excluded teams deserved it.

Pretty easy to see why Groce has had so much success in March. He's not focused on what's arguably fair or unfair - he's focused on winning.

"Being judged by what happens in Cleveland is unfair."

I said after the QF game last year that Groce killed Buffalo. Well, there was some life left after all. Or was there? The bottom of this league is so bad that Buffalo wound up in the top half. I would not have expected that.

With that said, they are still the same run and gun team we've played a couple of times. If they got hot, they get really hot. Just ask Ball State. MAC tournament games are almost never easy, and despite the regular season results, it is still Buffalo. Akron has met them in the tournament in 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022, and now 2023.

That should go without saying! 3 of Akron's 4 MAC titles have been fairly comfortable games. Isn't that strange?

and the losses have been close...but anyway...

I'm certainly not looking past tomorrow night.  but buffalo certainly owned the Zips in Cleveland for what seemed like a generation
