The Zips competed with most teams they played against in the first half of games. In the second half the Zips would run out of gas against teams they lost to.Better strength and conditioning is needed.

I think it was more lack of depth than it was conditioning personally.

Has nothing to do with strength/conditioning. Has everything to do with an inability to put the ball in the hoop consistently. Vs Ohio in the Semi Finals - 14 or 16 pts in the first half & 50 pts in the second half. Prime example, especially being the 2nd game in 2 days. I mean, hell, we won the MAC Tournament which is 3 games in 3 days.

We need shooters/scorers. Period.

Yep, I never saw kids with their hands on their knees or otherwise struggling, so I don't think it was conditioning.  I think it had to do with an inconsistent offense and a lack of killer instinct.

The large number of quality players and portal entries from the MAC has me more encouraged for next year.

Oakland's Jack Gohlke went 10 for 20 3's and beat Kentucky. They had what we lacked.  Gohlke came from Hillsdale Collège, just an hour north of Toledo.  Was he on our radar?  Probably not a great defender that Groce wants, but at some point we need shooters to stretch the field.

C'mon now. The reason he launched 20 3-pointers is because Oakland had no other choice. If he only makes 7 Oakland loses. Credit to him for making them, and Kampe for leaving him in against a superior opponent, but that's all Oakland had. We'll see if his hot hand continues in the tournament.

This guy's had an issue with strength and conditioning for some time now lol

Now I'm imagining a guy who's bitter because he's cold-called the athletic department offering to be the strength and conditioning coach and was turned down despite his pleas of "but I made lance corporal in the Army!" and "I pretty much tear up Wadsworth crossfit!"

Do you guys realize that the end of the Zips season against Creighton was almost a month ago!  I think it's a strong indication of out excitement with the program that we're still actively on here discussing the team.  Usually at this point the board has nearly shut down for the year.

I believe it's the day of giving for UA.  Go give Groce some money and help Bud Wentz out!

This and the NIL Collective are separate, correct?

Yes, the day of giving has been going on long before NIL was a thing. It goes towards the University to fund the athletic programs. The University doesn't pay for NIL.

Paging @monrowe

Yes the strength and conditioning director left U of A for a position at Wadsworth high school.

He did his best work with the soccer team.In MAC basketball he was serviceable. I attended the NCAA basketball tournament in Pittsburgh the other schools were way more physically developed than Akron. So donations are needed.

Comparing anyone to DJ Burns isn't exactly fair. 😉

Up to $123k from 530 donors now.

That's the total of contributions for all UA sports teams.  Basketball is now $9,385 from 33 donors.  Their goal was $25K.

Baseball, soccer, women's basketball, swimming and diving, track and field and spirit team have outraised men's basketball (and football).  😬

That makes more sense. I was thinking no way all those new donors donated in such a short span.

The results of this Day of Giving are skewed. No contributions to any sports NIL collective are counted. No membership in the Summit Group ($25,000 committed over five years) are counted. The results are not a dire as would be surmised on first inspection. Would we like to see more from the general public? Absolutely yes! But things need to be taken in perspective.
