(Kent barely won). Edited December 29, 2024 by RoyalBlu

RoyalBlu
Yep ... that was the core for a .500 team last year. Guessing they have been playing 10 guys this year for a reason ... so nobody really gets exposed.

That would be 9.5 point dog Ball State. Ball State makes 9 threes; Sullinger goes 1 for 9 from three. Outrebounded 34-24. There is no joy in Brimfield. RoyalBlu
Tough day for Kent. Forced more than 20 turnovers, took 20 more shots than Ball State, and still lost. Sullinger has lost his shot. Best player (Safford) done after hip surgery, potential backup, Moss, done, second knee surgery, top local recruit Jonas, MIA. Looks like another long season over there.

It looks like it will be a long season for everyone in he MAC. No team particularly stands out. Whoever wins the regular season would probably have been the 4th or 5th best MAC team in years past. Let'sGoZips94
Thank goodness we're shedding dead weight in NIU. Unfortunately, Steinbrecher has done a fantastic job overseeing the bulk of the MAC shift closer to NIU's level than Akron/Kent/Ohio/Toledo. Kent losing to Balls is hilarious. Would be amazing if they ended up with their first losing season in decades.

kreed5120
I think it's way too early to crown a MAC regular season champion. All the teams are very flawed and will have head scratching losses. I wouldn't be surprised if 11-7 wins the MAC this year.

Reslife4Life
Congrats to NIU for their current Kenpom ranking of 354 this morning! They are even ranked below perennial bottom 10 powerhouse IU Indy (IUPUI) Umass is currently sitting at 223, 6 spots below CMU

I'm not sure where they're at now, nor care.
Let'sGoZips94
Through two conference games and ~half the season, here are the team stats for the conference. I also used TeamRankings to put the numbers into a national perspective. Some of the data is a bit different, presumably due to ESPN counting different non-DI games vs. TeamRankings (looking at you, CMU, and your dumb 4 non DI games). Some interesting observations... - Akron & Miami OH are the two best offenses in the conference. Akron's is based on volume, while Miami is a bit more efficient. Akron, Miami OH, and Ohio are the only 3 schools in the top 100 for PPG, so OU could be included in this discussion based on that metric. - Conversely, Kent is the worst offense in the MAC. They are last in PPG, FG%, and 3P%. They are the only team not averaging 70+ ppg, under 40% FG%, and one of two teams under 30% for 3P%. - There are 4 teams in the top 100 for 3PA per game. Kent, Ohio, Miami OH, and Akron, with Akron being 4th in the country. - Unless I missed a school, there are 5 MAC teams in the top 100 for FGA per game. Toledo, Miami, Kent, WMU, and Akron, with Akron being 4th in the country. - Akron is the only team in the top 100 in the country for 3P%. - Akron leads the MAC in RPG and the only MAC school with 40+ RPG. This is largely volume-based considering our pace of play, but still good to know we're crashing the boards. We are 45th in the country in Off. RPG. 4
RoyalBlu
Explain to me how the worst team in the MAC (Kent) is by metrics considered the best team in the MAC by both the NET (127) and Kenpom (131). Waiting.

RoyalBlu
That's just it ... statistics say they may be the worst team in the MAC (outside of NIU).
