What? We didn't do anything but watch? He's still there? Never mind.... Quote

With the way the roster is currently constructed, bringing in a bunch of freshmen probably doesn’t help us much. Although we may still add a few more, as I’m pretty sure this window stays open through Friday. What really surprises me is how many MAC teams are still taking 20+ freshmen. EMU signed 30-plus players today, and I think most - if not all - of them are freshmen. Edited 10 hours ago by catdaddyp Quote
ZippyDoo Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago i would guess building for the future... hoping that it pays off in a year or two.. 20+ freshman is crazy though. I saw that Akron actually signed more freshman than Penn State probably will never say those words again. I hope it pans out for the Zips. Now all they can do is every year just hope to patch holes with the transfer portal same as every other team but with way less to offer. Todays freshman that go into the major college programs and start are true studs... Maryland started two edge rushers and their qb that were all true freshman and I think I saw they played a total of seven as regulars watch out for them in two years. This year, Zips played McManus and I think that is it. He definitely held his own. I bet he is a stud next season. I know Boswell started but he was a prep player before, Davis got a few snaps at safety and Sivon got a few snaps at wr but thats it. Hopefully the freshman learned and are ready to contribute next year for us. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted 1 hour ago Author Report Posted 1 hour ago Great article by Michael Beaven on our recruiting class. Insight into how we signed Semaj & mentions JoeMo aiming to bring in a TP or JUCO QB to compete for the starting job next season. 1 Quote

ZippyDoo Posted 25 minutes ago Report Posted 25 minutes ago If anyone is interested, Semaj Beals, the QB that commited is playing Friday night at 7 pm in the PA 5A state championshiop: Friday, 7 p.m. at Cumberland Valley HS (TV: PCN Audio Stream: PIAA Radio Network) PA classifies differently than Ohio I think. It goes 1A smallest to 6A the biggest. The article I read talks about Beals' High School and it brings back a lot of starters: "Chief among them is Beals, who is back under center for the Cahillites. The 6-1, 190-pound senior has thrown for 2,581 yards and 36 touchdowns this season, completing just under 65% of his pass attempts. " His top targets are seniors Ash Roberts (49-752, 10 TDs) and Eyan Stead (45-579, 10 TDs) and junior Eisa Nealy (32-479, 6 TDs). Stead and Nealy both saw action in last year's title game. Roman does most of its damage with Beals throwing the ball; the rush attack averages just over 100 yards per game, with sophomore Tre Montgomery (106-548, 2 TDs) leading the way. Quote

But JoeMo's extremely happy with both, obviously. I mentioned JoeMo targeting a TP or JUCO QB for next season to bring us to 4 QB (Raggow the only QB on the current roster w/ any PT experience). Article also talks about Donovan Moorhead & that JoeMo did in fact offer him, but they were clear early on there'd be a lot less controversy/drama if he went & played somewhere else other than for his dad. The linebacker we signed out of Pickerington North, Dante Curtis, was D-1 Ohio Central Region defensive POY. the DB we signed out of VASJ, Savion Lewis, was the D-3 Ohio Lakes Region defensive POY. In a world where most teams have 22 & 23 year olds, a team of 18-19 year olds is rarely going to be consistently successful. Would much prefer we save roster spots for grown men. Quote
ZippyDoo Posted 20 minutes ago Report Posted 20 minutes ago If history repeats itself these freshmen won't see the field this year, they will develop and possibly see the field next year or the next similar to what Dall did. At some point a program is going to have to develop from within. A program is going to have to develop and bring in players from the portal as well... They only brought in seven players, there are still plenty of roster spots Quote

If you'd like to watch future Zips QB Semaj Beals in the PA 5-A (2nd largest division) state title game, here is a link to the NFHS Network for online streaming. Unfortunately it does require a monthly subscription for $11.99. So if you watch Semaj don't forget to cancel afterwards! Quote
