I gleaned that

a) (13:40) the Akron community loves UA

b) (11:30) the new AD doesn't necessarily have to come from an AD position; it's more about the person (he or she)

a.) They show it by not attending Zips games, and wearing OSU gear. I guess it's "tough love?"

Ok. I'll do it on the cheap for as last they want me as long as I don't have to wear a tie to work. Im not kidding when I say I could do a better job than the past couple of ADs.

Well they picked a guy with the most Akron name ever. Can't be mad about that.

Experience at Miami (FL) and South Florida is encouraging.

My two cents, quick read is that he has been instrumental in fund raising, marketing and sponsorships at ACC and Big South schools. Finding new, innovative ways to raise money and increase engagement on and off campus, would be very beneficial to Akron athletics.

GW bio focuses a lot on revenue generating activities:

From his Miami bio

A member of the external leadership staff, his role he is responsible for the management of the marketing department’s promotional, advertising and budgeting strategies for the Hurricanes’ 17 varsity sports.  Additional responsibilities include supporting the efforts of UM communications, ticket sales, ticket operations, digital media, creative services and multimedia rights partners to increase and improve brand value, brand awareness, fan experience, customer satisfaction, attendance and revenues.

USF

At South Florida, Goodrich was responsible for leading the Bulls' business strategy, revenue generation, ticket operations, ticket sales, corporate sponsorship, merchandising, and USF Athletics licensing (CLC) initiatives. Additionally, Goodrich supervised marketing and strategic communications which included digital and social media strategy, Bulls Vision audio/video production, branding, and in-game presentation/fan experience enterprises.

His success in growing attendance in football and men's and women's basketball, and his expertise in marketing and fan experience will aid us in expanding the impact and reach of the Syracuse brand.

Just a few thoughts on our new AD:

  • He was brought in to find new or untapped sources of revenue
  • He is a strong marketer, he is innovative and he sees potential here
  • He has no history in hiring good coaches; I wonder what kind of network he has going for him
  • He will be here 3-4 years, bet on that. He has had a taste of the big time and he has built a career designed to get back there
  • He is the first AD I have ever seen that seems to have the career path focused on becoming a conference commissioner. He will be a good one too.
  • If he can solve some of our problems I will be thrilled with his 3-4 year stay
