. At some point, it's up to the coach to deliver.

If you mean next year, I agree.

Hello -

Just registered to tell you all you are getting a quality person.  Dr. Tire is very approachable and yes, brings energy.

GW, like most smaller private liberal arts schools, is having big financial challenges, which he dealt with here from day one.  We are also in the midst of a Presidential search on campus as well, this is a critical time for the future of the school.  He picked the right time to strike oil and move up the chain.  We wish him well.

He really didn’t do much hiring, he did hire Cris Reisert as football HC (from Tiffin up your way) to replace the young juggernaut Tre Lamb (now already HC at Tulsa) and he just hired Penn State assistant Terri Williams as head women’s hoops HC.

The financial resources at GW, for a D1 program, are scarce, which made his job, especially hiring/fundraising, challenging to say the least.  I read some posts mentioning a thin budget at Akron.  Goodrich can easily adapt and get your fundraising apparatus kicked into gear.

Go Dawgs.  Go Zips.

I watched Goodrich's presser and was underwhelmed. That does not mean I think he is not up to the task. He just didn't say anything. No one in the room was inspired. That was reflected in the fact that only one question was asked from the crowd and that was from Dave Skozen (sp?) our play by play voice. I did like that he emphasized performance. Still there was no motivational vision, no claiming Akron is a sleeping giant or a dream job for anyone on the way up. Of course it isn't, but the faithful love to hear we can have a glorious future. He did offer lots of praise for RJ Nemer. No mention of our high achieving programs like MBB, MSoccer, WLax. But he also didn't mention the problematic ones either. No mention of football, facilities, budget or debt. That's probably a good thing if he doesn't have a clear plan this early in his tenure. I expected more because, like most Zip fans, I am holding out hope for a better future in all sports, but especially football.

He certainly emptied the board room quote bucket. He did mention increasing attendance and community engagement which could certainly help in several ways.

Heard there’s been quite the exodus of Guthrie’s LT / hires from the staff side including Marcus Jennings, Camden Stockton and Candace Smith. Should set up Goodrich nicely to quickly bring in his own people and get to work.

I just texted Camden yesterday. He was on vacation and did not mention leaving his position. If he does I would regret it. He was good at what he did. He also did a lot with the little he was given. As the basketball season wound down we started to see some marketing. Camden directed a lot of it.

I'd hate to see Markus go, but since he was either not considered for the AD job, or interviewed and didn't land it, I wouldn't blame him.  Candace had already left for a better gig at the end of basketball season.  I certainly hope we see a move as far as Women's Administrator goes.  Someone who takes a full-time job then dedicates herself to getting a law degree on the U's dime is not needed.  An administrator who actually shows up at women's events would be refreshing!  And I agree with @72 Roo, Camden was the driving force towards some marketing efforts at the end of the basketball season.  Meanwhile the marketing department of 2 was "out to lunch".

I don't know who was in the marketing department, but I think Samantha Maxwell deserves some credit.

Hate to see this. I thought he was one of the good ones in athletic administration. Is Sam Maxwell far behind? I also think she is good at her job.

Sam is planning on staying. Her institutional knowledge will really help out the new AD.

I like our new AD and hope he does well. I'll also chime in about our former AD Charles Guthrie to give another perspective. When Guthrie first arrived I wanted to get a personal measure of the man so I scheduled a meeting with him. I came away enthused that he had the right vision and experience to help us reach our potential.

His hires for the administrative staff were the best we have ever had. On the coaching side I felt he was right to set performance standards and hold coaches to that. He cleaned house in several sports. Jared did most of the heavy lifting in getting soccer into the Big East, but Guthrie helped by showing more support than Williams ever did. Guthrie's retention of Michell, Engle, Peresie, Groce, and Embick were critical. Adding Moorhead, Faulds, Softball (?) and LAX are great in my eyes. The rest are TBD.

Marketing did not seem to be a strength of his, but I supported his rebranding. UA needed it. The new A is fine with me, but it wasn't my first choice (the Z was) and I told him so when he asked alumni for opinions. I do not understand the vehemence regarding the A by a few on this board. I get you don't like it. Get over it. The change has been made. Don't hate on it with every post. That detracts from some of your really good posts.

My position on Guthrie changed when I learned he had lied to some coaches, especially football. Why? I don't know. Yet when that was made known I welcomed his departure. I had high hopes for his leadership. It was never to be. Now we move on and I wish Goodrich all the best. He brings a hell of a background.

I would love to know how you got your information and who from? It sounds like your meeting with him he fed you the smoothie he tried feeding everyone else on campus at the beginning. My thoughts vary a little...

Firstly Guthrie biggest mistake was moving on many great Akron people. He moved on Paul Hammond, Anne Jorgensen and arguably our greatest coach in Dennis Mitchell. There is nearly 100 years of work at Akron in those 3 people alone. He then went and outsourced everything he possibly could such as parking, dorms and probably other things I am unaware of. Why?

Anyone defending his hires is crazy. Our track team isn’t as good as it once was. Our football team have more issues off the field as they have on it; and that’s saying something.  His womens soccer coach got fired for doing whatever it is she did. His administration seemed useless apart from maybe Camden Stockden. And the marketing for athletics on campus was non existent. As mentioned here already; the games towards the end of mens basketball season were promoted best of the year and he was no longer in the job!!

Guthrie was known in athletics for spending school money to look great for donors. His bills racked up over and over costing the department thousands of dollars. Any possible event he could go to he did. His twitter showed us fans this. Masters golf, Browns games, conventions, Bowl games, anything he could get himself to, he was there. He is still doing the same at Fordham. I must unfollow him actually.

Guthrie lied about more things than he spoke the truth on. Multiple lies to Moorehead on budgets, NIL money and academic standards. Their relationship was non existent when he left.  He has not hidden his hatred for Charles. Many donors, me included were tired of his sh1t by the time he left. It was all talk and no action.

Guthrie also lied to so many coaches about contracts, and then hid the contract offers and extensions from the public. Peresie signed a new contract. Reimer Gonzales signed a new contract. Embick signed a new contract. All coaches were told to sign the line, or move on. Peresie and Embick are proven winning coaches and Guthrie was fine moving them on to save money and spend the extra money any which way he wanted.

I have always been against  the rebranding and introduction of the Arbys A. How can a school who is so financially unstable change everything from Adidas to Nike and Z to A and expect to not be in more debt?

This post has so many holes in it, if it was a boat it would sink in 30 seconds. Either that or it is one of the all-time troll posts in ZN.o history!

Unsure how much is correlated to the new AD, but have seen a handful of new additions to the Summit Circle announced in the past week-ish.

Where did you find that?

I believe the Zips athletic account on twitter or “x” as they call it these days.
