Refs tried giving it to Kent, Kent didn't want it, then we played hot potato and gave it right back to Kent.

I didn't like the call either, especially since it put us down 8. Meaning we would still have to convert a 2-point conversion from an equal distance to tie it up anyway.

I look at the offense in the first half of the game. It was like the moment was too big. Once we got their crap together we were moving the ball.
 

But by then it was too little too late. It’s hard to build momentum when you’re playing from behind. Desperation and anxiety are strong opponents.

 

Oh well. Who’s next?

Ok, back home.  First, the bad:

 

The defense just wasn't there.  As they got it to overtime...then it fell apart.

 

The officiating was...I don't know.  It was just kinda off.  Spend more time officiating and less time enunciating, I guess?

 

The good?

 

Moorhead called a good offensive game.

 

But...Akron had an actual crowd and a pretty amped one at times.

 

Basically...yeah this didn't end well.  But Akron fought back in a game they should have been blown out.

 

If this were year one of Joe, I think you could take something from it. But it's Year 4...and they're again not bowl eligible (even disregarding the academic penalty).  This didn't work.  It sucks, but it didn't work.

The academic penalty this year staining any progress made. 

 

Moorhead isn't the answer, but it doesn't make financial sense to dump him.

 

Fan interest is low. 

 

Any talented underclassmen will almost certainly go portaling, as most would. 

 

I just don't see it ever changing for this program.

Even with the loss, that game probably didn't hurt fan interest.  Makes it tough. 

 

I guess we'll see.  Unless he leaves, Moorhead does return next year.  Maybe we go bowling next year...

Hire a football guy who is a motivator. JoeMo certainly isn't the latter. Both the Browns and the Zips have alleged offensive gurus at the helm and they both get owned by football guys.

Ken Carmen just reminded me of this. Did not realize his son is a member of the 2026 class. Joe needs to do the right thing and follow his son to the deep south that has treated him so well in the past.

I hope I am not banned from this board but you have to give Kent State credit.  They have been absolutely terrible the last few years and they are a decent team.  This was a battle of 2 evenly matched teams and Kent executed in overtime and we did not.  They scored on their first play in overtime and we lost 4 yards and started behind the chains.  After Akron came back from that large deficit in the 4th quarter it was a gut punch to lose this game.  However, it was an entertaining game.

I thought coming into the season Kent would go 1-11. They still aren't good, but their new coach was put into a tough situation and overachieved. I already miss Kenny Burns.

And they're a decent team with largely the same roster they were 0-12 (and worse than that record) with last year.

 

Hopefully this stays a fun little set of games.
