ZippyDoo Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 I am sure many of you are much smarter than I am and i openly admit it. This is a pretty good article it is long but to me interesting and I think some of you may find it interesting. Walgren suggested the football team cut three players for poor academics and they didn't and then a fourth who had a gpa of .74 and they did not. It goes into depth for the reasoning and i'm not pointing fingers in agreement or disagreement just saying the article is well written and explains a lot. It also says at the end the ban "could continue into next year" but that is just a possibility. I am relying some of you brainiacs to translate a lot of this for me. I do think Mr Brown did a good job though. 2 Quote

Reminds me of the old Jerry Tarkanian line: "The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they'll probably put Cleveland State on probation for an additional two years." 2 1 Quote
a-zip Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM It is sad that so many negative articles around college football - we are named. Worst head coaching positions, game day atmosphere, academics, worst teams. 2 Quote

There is a silver lining: Akron has the best facilities in the MAC, a great FBS opportunity for players to showcase their talent, and a competent president/ athletic director. Under Nemer and Goodrich, those advantages will pay dividends sooner rather than later and the only direction to go is up!! 7 Quote

All those things are true, but I wouldn't advertise regression to the mean as something we have going for us because by its very definition in our case, it highlights that we have traditionally been one of the worst programs in FBS/D1-A. 1 Quote

Hopefully our coaching staff can stay in place for the foreseeable future and actually build something at UA. That is the one thing that has held us back. Hiring two of the worst head coaches in FBS history has dug us in a hole that is hard to come out of. Also doesn't help that people in NE Ohio only care about one college football team and it's not us. So there will always be this reputation that the Zips aren't a "real" school and our games don't matter. 1 Quote
egregiousbob Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Best facilities in the MAC? You need to visit Miami's football building. And before you point to InfoCision, remember that an empty stadium isn't much of a recruiting asset. 2 Quote

And before you point to InfoCision, remember that an empty stadium isn't much of a recruiting asset. I’ll give you the practice facility and Miami hockey’s arena, but Yager Stadium itself was a dump when I went in 2019, and I’ve heard the locker rooms are equally as bad. I actually think the locker rooms are a bigger selling point than the stadium which Akron had state of the art when I was a student. Plus, Miami has the worst hoops setup in the country. Quote
MangoZip Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Akron has the best stadium in the MAC but locker room and overall facilities they do not. Miami’s locker room, indoor, meeting rooms etc blow away Akron’s - not even close Quote
