A signature win?

Heck of an endorsement from our 🐐
-
To add more context to the KD exit - Antino Jackson, Noah Robotham, Josh Williams, and Aaron Jackson were the best players with remaining eligibility. Groce had an opportunity to pitch to all 4, and all 4 transferred elsewhere (none to Duquesne). (That's not a knock on Groce, just the reality of the situation.) As @kreed5120 said, turnover is very common with a coaching change. It may not be that way with Ford because it's a unique situation where the players already know him well and vice-versa. We can only hope.

Sameness, hopefully.

I'm not as close to the program to know what differences Ford and Groce had philosophically so I can't speak to any schematic changes. I expect us to continue down the same path of targeting young players, developing them, and then using the portal to plug deficiencies. From much of what I've read online player development is what many have pointed out as one of Ford's strengths. We'll continue to rely on that and perhaps can even use it as a tool to recruit under the radar underclassmen who might still be a bit raw.

Championships!

We now have our new head coach, a familiar face who has been with the Zips for 9 years. Dustin has been in charge of the defense and scheduling under Groce. He's certainly earned the chance. What do you expect from Ford's Zips squads?
-
They were leaving anyway. Look at any coaching change and you see huge roster turnover. The exception is if you promote an assistant like we did with Ford. Even then it's no guarantee. Edit: Didn't he only take 2 if I remember right? Hughes and that undersized pg? Memory is fading at my old age. Edit 2: Tavian Dunn-Martin

Serviceable backup big? 🤣

I agree 100%. KD only left - after 13 years, almost u heard at the time (or any time) - for a job that was very personal for him. Groce interviewed multiple places and seemed to be determined to leave. Very, very different IMO. (But as I said before, Groce is a good man and I respect his decision to leave).

I feel much of the hate Dambrot receives is misdirected. When he left there was a large contingent that appeared to be more Dambrot fans than Akron. Those people were very vocal and quit on the program. This time it feels different in that people are rallying behind Ford. Edit: People were also probably more overreacting because it was the first time in a don't know how long a ~decade long tenure coach with a lot of success left. People are more based this time because they've seen it happen before and are confident we can recover.

I don't think it has to be iconic. A tee shirt would work, idk about the "built Ford tough" stuff bc I'm not a copyright attorney but it definitely would sell. And I'd sell them double what he's selling stuff for now.

I saw a couple people tweet pictures of their hats that arrived today, so it may be coming very soon.
-
How did you find out it was held up for postage? Curious if that's the same issue with my hat.

I just got a nice apology message back from the collective offering to refund the extra shipping. I told them to treat it as a donation to the collective. I'm sure that $4.10 will make a huge difference in recruiting!
