Game 4- at Purdue - Sunday Nov. 16th @ 7:30 pm

I think the Zips will have a problem with Oscar Cluff, the 6'11" Aussie transfer from South Dakota State. He was one of only two players in the country to average at least 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting at least 59.0 percent from the field a year ago. The Zips depth and speed can be effective on the perimeter but it will be tough to handle Cluff. They also have a 7'4" sophomore that plays some. -

We have NO CHANCE to upset the #1 team in the nation. 😉 No. 1 Houston leapfrogs Purdue in AP Top 25 poll. -
Massive matchup tonight with UNCW coming to Kent for a OOC matchup. UNCW is 120 in KenPom (Miami OH is 121 for comparison) and Kent is up to 136. Really wish we could get a team this high to come to the JAR yearly. (Outside of the SBC) but this years OOC seems like a step in the right direction at least

Purdue hasn't lost a home nonconference game since Nov 2019 to Texas. This will definitely be a challenge against the #2 team in the country. I hope to see us play strong till the end. -
Give them horse racing. They will bet on anything at any time. Make Saturday 56 games. They don't care. Barstool is for gambling degenerates. McAfee is a company guy who will do anything for the team.

Akron up to #14 in the College Soccer News poll while remaining at #24 in the Top Drawer poll. https://collegesoccernews.com/college-soccer-news-mens-week-12-top-25-coaches-poll-maryland-claims-top-spot-nc-state-and-stanford-drop/ https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men -
Other thing I'd like to try with the MACtion...plaster ads everywhere and cut back the TV timeouts. See if we can't find a happy medium. Attendance on the weekdays should also be a bit better if you knew going in the 7 PM kickoff wasn't going to get you to your car by 11

It's Monday at 12:15 PM EST, and ... I am taking the Zips 45-17.

I hope our defense travels for this one. It has been impressive the first 2 games. There isn’t a large size discrepancy except for at center (depending on who is playing the 5). It is a road game, so I expect plenty of fouls called on us. And we will see Tavari and Young stuck trying to guard a 7 foot center after a defensive switch. Not much you can do about that. Better than giving up an open 3. Groce has never played much zone. Only as a change of pace tactic. I would prefer fronting the bigs to deny entry and pester the hell out of the ball handlers so they can’t dump easy lob passes over the top. I too would be happy with a competitive game for 40 minutes and in a sense we are playing with house money. -
Yes, simply due to the fact that their campus is less than fifteen miles away, and at least some of their families, friends, and fans will make the short jaunt over.

Given the MAC has very well shown that "even though Ohio State and Michigan play on Saturday, we draw tons better crowds on Saturdays" as a league...getting another Saturday would be a good enough compromise. The institutional problems with Akron are deeper than just "oh the Tuesday games keep people from the stadium in September," but that's a step they need to take. I do think legitimately, tomorrow's game against Can't will have more people than the UMass game did. Maybe not a lot more, but more.
-
I made a comment before, I think a good compromise is for the MAC to have 3 midweek games per week. The rest being on Saturday. That would make it so that each team would only have to play midweek twice (once at home and once on the road). That would allow midweek TV spots to be filled and will give fans 1 more Saturday game to attend.

We all know that the answer is neutral site games in Florida and tarps on empty seats.

There are 50+ games this Saturday alone. The degenerate gamblers you're referring to are covered. They need something Tuesdays and Wednesdays this time of year; enter MACtion, which has become a beloved brand for that group of people. Pat McAfee, Barstool, etc. all wore MACtion shirts last week. Friday nights feature ACC, Big Ten, American, and CUSA games already. It's also high school football night, so I don't know how shifting MAC games to Friday nights solves any attendance problems. The MAC is already stupid enough for having their conference basketball games on Tuesday nights (boy's high school basketball game nights in Ohio if I'm not mistaken). The fact remains: unless the MAC wins more and becomes a powerhouse brand the media companies can't ignore OR the MAC gets creative with a less mainstream outlet, Tuesday/Wednesday night MACtion is as good as it's going to get.

I would expect to see us play more zone and send hard double teams to force Purdue bigs to pick up their dribble. We'll then have to rotate as best as we can on the perimeter. The reality is they will end up with some wide open looks, but we need to pray they have an off shooting night. That's kind of our only hope. Edit: I don't have much hope for a win, but if we can stay competitive for a full 40 minutes, I'll mark it down as a positive performance. -
ESPN+ has to show something to what are mostly degenerate gamblers,so games on Saturday shouldn't be a problem. This is my idea for a weeknight game. The Ivy League is terrible and somehow gets a nationally televised Friday night game. I think MAC basketball on Friday nights is great when two top level teams play. The NFL flexing a game to prime time is great for ratings. I would propose flexing the best MAC match up to Friday evening for five weeks. Only once can a school lose a Saturday home game and will only be required to play on Friday twice in a season.

The potential attendance bump isn't making up for the lost TV revenue. This board loves to talk about the poor financial situation the University is in, yet continues to contradict the talking points by beating the drum for questionable attendance boosts by cutting guaranteed revenue. Like I said above, it would take a creative route by the MAC to potentially get the best of the both worlds, and I don't think the suit NPCs at the MAC offices that love to take marching orders from the P4s for their own personal gain are all that interested in being creative.

If it's about the money, they will make another bad deal.

I won't be able to attend due to a work trip. So, if anyone would like a free general admission ticket, DM me and I'll get it to you.
