  1. Past hour
  2. For us gray haired Zips fans: How many of these sports reporters do you remember?
  3. The big question here...is the MAC done? While it feels kinda ridiculous, this is the first remotely proactive thing the MAC has done in a long long time...are they trying to use some of this extra funding to pilfer CUSA? There are multiple teams there that would make sense, and adding schools that "matter" even a little bit could help the MAC stave off the Sun Belt. That next TV deal is probably going to be vitally important...is it just going to be the "same old same old" with the crappy midweek games, or is the MAC going to try and find other broadcasters that need content (and want college football)? Be a very very interesting couple years here.
  4. Today
  5. Close, but it's from a different Arby's, taken myself 😂
  6. I wasn’t crazy about the idea at first either. Going back to Illinois. Watching your point guard dribbling down the clock to make sure there is only time for his last shot and maybe a quick tip-in is nerve wrecking. I have seen his point guards pass out of double teams and not take that last shot themselves, but it’s often not a drawn up play coming out of a time out. Other than maybe spreading everyone out, etc.
  7. When that option was Ali, that drove me nuts. Even when it did work out against WMU at the jar I still didn’t trust it
  8. Is your new profile picture the A from the old Arby’s by campus😂
  9. But hopefully he can maintain his love for the place.
  10. He got the day that he deserved.
  11. As always, great insight Catdaddy!
  12. Three straight losing seasons with the team performing progressively worse with each season and then tried throwing his players under the bus, despite what seems like a pretty good NIL investment. Not sure why K State would keep him?
  13. Kansas State coach shown the door. inmates running the asylum.
  14. UMass is the team I don't want to see in Cleveland. I really want Miami to draw them.
  15. Kent is usually a built for MAC tournament team. Physicality of the game picks up and refs seem to allow teams to play more. That's why I think a team like UMass could overachieve come MAC tournament time.

  17. Groce is a former math teacher, so yes. There will be times at the very end of a close game where he will simply run a motion to get the ball into his best scorers hands. Then live or die by what he can create on his own. Because even though it’s not clever, it has the highest probability of success. Right now that would be Tavari.
  18. he makes comments in pre-games and post-games that indicate to me that he relies on them quite a bit.
  19. CMU is clearly a well-coached and potentially dangerous team. Kent, FWIW, came from the 8th seed to within a fingertip of the championship in 2024. They are always a threat. BG...I'm not so convinced that they are "legit."
  20. As things stand right now ... I feel the three teams to watch are Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Kent with regards to the MAC Tournament. BG's metrics are strong, even if their record is not. If they play to their metrics down the stretch, they could make a push toward the 3-seed. That makes Tuesday's BG-Kent game critical for them. Kent can probably lock up the 3-seed with a BG win as they hold tie-breakers over every other team behind them. At the same time, while they have a strong record, their metrics aren't really that strong. If they struggle down the stretch, they could fall a few spots. Central Michigan is on the outside looking in, but they have been playing well and are just one game out of the 8th spot with games vs. several teams that could be critical, including one vs. Buffalo, and one against Kent - a team they already beat. Keep an eye on CMU the next few weeks.
  21. I would rather see Kent in the final or not at all, don’t know if that’s going to happen. In terms of my PTO, I love us being the 2 seed
  22. Dude is set. Hopefully he has a heart for supporting his alma mater to some extent.
  23. I would say quite considerably. I know the practice gym is outfitted with equipment that allows it to track player performance with advanced analytics. It even provides numbers on what lineups provide the most optimization. Groce has said in the past that some of those lineups he has been surprised by in the past. Add in the Zips are one of the heaviest volume shooting from 3 teams in NCAA. I know many gray hairs are against it, but I feel it's something that if you aren't utilizing, you're falling behind.
  24. https://open.substack.com/pub/akronzippedup/p/akron-zips-mens-basketball-weekly-f3c?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email Akron Zipped Up has some insightful takes as Zips enter the home stretch.
  25. Looking forward to our new QB dismantling the Sacramento State defense at Infocision Stadium.
  26. It's a good move for NDSU. They think they are better than whatever level FCS will be after the G5 conferences separate from P4, and they are probably right. Montana,MT State, SD and South Dakota St need to do the same thing if they believe they are up for it.
  27. Is anyone up on how much Groce relies on analytics? Just curious as it is a huge strength in the College of Business.
