  1. Past hour
  2. Something worth noting since Akron/Miami are projected as an 11/12 seed and most are projecting UNC as a 5/6 seed. Caleb Wilson broke his thumb in practice this week and had season ending surgery. He was averaging 19.8 pts and 9.4 rebounds and a projected lottery pick.
  3. You rang?! And I'll have you know that CK is at least a year or 2 older than me. Whitlock should be calling the Toledo Blade .. with Elton retired, that's where I'd start with a historian. Go Zips!
  4. this should be a link to a 5 minute interview with Beto Ydrach
  5. You could take it the other way...they're currently undefeated and people are debating their at-large worthiness. If they lose tonight, there's much more pressure to secure their NCAA Tournament berth by winning in Cleveland.
  6. I both love and hate that photo. 😉
  7. Today
  8. Anyone tried the B.L.I.M.P. at Diamond Deli? My colleague invented it.
  9. Well, that's better than usual but it looks like the upper reserve seats are still mostly available.
  10. Looks like the lower bowl is sold out, or at least close to it, by looking at our ticketing page.
  11. I went to Diamond Deli and ordered the Zips sandwich. Wasn't good! Suggest ordering it without the Thousand Island dressing.
  12. Me neither. Hard to go if you work
  13. Miami OH is in a no-win situation when it comes to pressure. Currently their only claim to fame is a 0 in the loss column and every single pundit is debating if THAT'S even enough given their schedule. They know Akron will likely be awaiting them in Cleveland and every metric under the sun has Akron beating them in a theoretical neutral court matchup (in fact, I believe Akron is pretty heavily favored in that - nearly 60/40). Steele's outburst in Kalamazoo was proof the pressure of needing to be perfect to get to The Dance is wearing on them.
  14. A loss at OU might take some pressure off the squawks and make them even more dangerous in the MAC tournament. It will be a tough tournament either way.
  15. Bracketology trends as regular season winds down We've reached the final weekend of the regular season in men's college basketball, and conference tournaments are nearly finished on the women's side. It's only March 6, but the madness is already here. Few things this time of year are as important as momentum, and while some teams are improving their NCAA Tournament stock each time they step onto the court, others are slipping down seed lines and putting themselves in danger of missing the dance altogether. We took the temperature of 19 teams in our bracketology stock watch. Trending up: Florida, Michigan State, Saint Mary's, Ohio State, Georgia, Cincinnati, TCU, South Florida, Akron Trending down: SMU, BYU, NC State, Clemson, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Iowa, Purdue, San Diego State You'll be hearing a lot of bubble talk over the next week. Anxiety levels are high for at-large teams teetering on the edge of the bracket. In addition to taking care of business, they also need to root against potential bid stealers. Our model projects the MAC as the likeliest conference to produce one of those thieves. David Cobb explains. Cobb: "It's Akron -- not Miami (Ohio) -- that our model views as the favorite to win the MAC Tournament. The Zips have won 15 straight league games since taking a loss to the RedHawks early in league play. Akron also rates better in predictive metrics than Miami, but Miami will have a strong at-large case if it fails to win the league tournament."
  16. This may be true of UA, but several "I Promise" students have graduated from Kent State. As of last year, 74 "I Promise" students were pursuing college degrees. It's also worth noting the school opened in 2018 to 3rd and 4th graders, and didn't extend to grades 1-8 until 2022. You're not seeing many college graduates yet because most of the kids aren't old enough yet, not because it's a failure.
  17. Still up in the air someone on here posted yesterday.
  18. I've been in the Akron area for over 40 years and never been there. Need to make a point of it. Wonder if this means Hardman's quest for an addition year was denied? Or, is it still up-in-the-air?
  19. Thanks for people like you and @Blue & Gold for spreading the fandom. It's challenging for me to get my friends to go to an Akron game that's not Kent or the MAC Tournament and those friends I try to get to go are Akron grads.
  20. Most places that get a bad rap aren't really as bad as they're made out to be.
  21. If anybody needs a ticket tonight, let me know. I have 1 GA available. We have a church event so I'll be following along on my phone. And yes @zippy5 I know it's Faith night haha. The irony.
  22. Any affordable Zips gear like this is advantageous for me at the card shop I work at on the weekends. Akron gear sparks more conversation than people think. I've been wearing my Freeman jersey nearly every weekend recently and my boss told me some kids were quietly talking and pointing at the front of the jersey asking, "Is he wearing a Freeman jersey?" It's a grassroots effort to promote the program/school haha.
  23. I assumed next weekend probably wasn't in play. That's fine, it looks good quality and is at a fair price. Besides the profits are reinvested in the team. I don't mind keeping it in my closet until next fall if need be.
  24. Fair enough, I just ordered one and will hope for delivery by next weekend. Or the following weekend, for the NCAA Tournament of course! I kinda hope it's black as I have so much blue Zips stuff. I'm okay with using other colors on occasions. 😆
  25. It's faith night, bring them to the game
