Good point. Limit them anyhow. Let private money pay for it.

Scholarship limits and roster limits are 2 different things. Limiting scholarships would have no bearing on the P4.

New pitch for the CSU Vikings?
Zips1991 replied to Spin's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I've been confused by the whole soccer situation in Cleveland. Because there's also a proposed soccer stadium across the freeway from Progressive Field. That would be for professional women's soccer and men's MLS Next Pro. Apparently this proposal is for USL men's soccer. But it would involve demolishing the arena and building a soccer stadium, I believe. - Today

Thats what happened with Pribula from Penn State last year. Walked away before it ended. I know the schools can take them back if they want but I also know that after Summers entered and didn't like his options, Akron said he could come back but only as a walk on.

Frank Solich might be very interesting pick, but he is 81 years old and retired in 2021 because of health issues. Might not be the best candidate. I am all for what ever it takes to build the program. I am not a JoeMoe sympathizer, but I am also not a JoeMoe hater. I just would like to see the program build and the culture changed. I am excited about the freshman class and think they would be awesome to build around. I can't picture McManus being here next year, but if he stays that's even better ! We have three very large athletic defensive linemen that are very impressive that I think can make a difference once they develop and are given a chance, a very athletic and talented safety that I thought was going to play regularly, and two linebackers that I believe can make a difference. On the offensive side, McManus, Broughton who is crazy athletic and can probably be effective at any skilled postiion and a wr that runs 4.4 at least. I am excited

They can always put their name in and then withdraw it. We saw that with Tavari this past spring. I wouldn't be surprised if we see at least 1 player from a P4 playoff team do that each year. Treating the portal more as hold out in order to secure himself a bag by keeping the team hostage since they no longer have the option of doing it in the spring.

Akron is only 6.5 point favorites at home. When you factor in Vegas gives home teams a 2.5 point advantage, Vegas only views Akron as 4 points better on a neutral field. I've said before this is an FCS caliber roster. We should win, but if we take them lightly this will just be a repeat of us losing to Gardner-Webb.

I can see the Vikes playing in the Auditorium now. But how in the world are they going to put a regulation pitch (330’ X 80’) in a 112’ by 121’ space? I mean, it worked out well for the old Cleveland Crunch indoor team (200’x85’). But a full pitch? What am I missing…

Thanks I did not realize that. I thought everything had to happen within 10 days. So player X puts his name in the portal in that window and can sign whenever? I think it will still be interesting because coaches will know very early who they are losing and can start planning on replacing them. Once a player puts his name in, they are out right? For example if Ohio State is in the championship and a player enters the portal, they are off the team right?

70 is probably a better number than my original. They could have 53 scholarships and 17 walk ons. It wouldn't take much time. They could chart the number of plays per player on every roster. Some players may only play a handful of plays in a season. I believe those players are unnecessary to give scholarships. A lot of NFL players are brought in n mid season to replace IR players or guys who aren't cutting it. Injuries are part of sports. Teams will need to deal with those problems with their available roster. Life isn't fair.

Duquesne beat OU a couple years ago. The seem to be a decent FCS team in 2025, playing #10 Lehigh pretty close last week. I hope the starters take the game seriously and build a nice lead that allows the guys further down the depth chart to get PT. But the Zips have a history of making FCS games much closer than they need to be.

I would agree it makes more sense for football but the problem is classes. Most schools start 2nd semester until early to mid January so kids needs to be enrolled. If they aren’t enrolled for 2nd semester then they can’t participate in spring practice.

My complaint with the transfer portal is that it's open during the CFP. They should move the window to early February IMO. Trimming it down to 1 window was a big improvement. I feel a little bit more study needs to be done to determine proper roster size. NFL teams have roster size of 53, but they have an additional 17 player taxi squad, who they have on hand to step in when needed. Plus they can sign FA mid-season. An NFL team uses much more than 53 individual players over the course of the season when you factor in injuries. I would think 70-75 players would be adequate and accomplish some of the goals you stated.

This is a good step. Next step should be reducing scholarships to 65. College football is now a professional minor league. If 53 players per roster is good enough for the NFL, college can do the same thing. It will make coaches really think about who and who does not get a scholarship. One half of all kids in the TP never play football again. It will also accelerate them out of the sport and move them to things they can do on life where they can be more successful.

Players and teams can still sign after the portal closes. Players just have a 10 day window to submit their names.

Ncaa announced today plans to eliminate 2 transfer portals and to only have one that is open for ten days. the potential dates are Jan 2- Jan 12. that's it. it is official to one transfer portal but the window date has not been confirmed yet. it is reported that this is something coaches have pushed for and most likely will pass. that will be crazy. players will have to decide if they are leaving before the playoffs are finished and the national championship. i think last year i read 3,000 players from FBS and FCS entered the portal in the winter and spring windows coaches will have ten days to fill empty positions which should make teams desperate.
