Staying Close to John Groce - Coach-related News and Views

He probably believes everything he reads on the internet, which is why he thinks Auburn deserve to be in the tournament. -
Speaking of rewatching - I went back and watched the last five minutes. Evans block with a couple minutes left is my unheralded play of the game. Unreal hustle and athleticism on that one

Is this for season ticket holders only? If not where can I find this link?

Rewatching the 14 minutes of the game. ESPN needs to figure out how to capture the crowd noise better. That place was so loud and you would never know watching on TV.

I found out when I went to the game in Pittsburgh a couple years back, that you can buy the gear they sell at the Tournament games online through the company that handles the sales. For example, you can get the March Madness shirt that will be sold at the arena here: https://www.event1teamstore.com/d-i-m-basketball-single-team-shirt-champion-jersey-short-sleeve-tee-fgdca151467a-fw1001024-fgdca151467a.html#color=187 They also have shirts for each site (e.g., there will be a shirt specific to the Tampa site) but they don't all seem to be added yet: https://www.event1teamstore.com/basketball-0/division-i-9/mens-44/1st-2nd-rounds.html Plus, they appear to offer free shipping! EDIT: They appear to have now added the Tampa site shirts but don't have the actual artwork yet, just conceptual artwork. Maybe check back tomorrow.

Something tells me Kowalchoke is enemy #1 at Akron right now.

The Athletic department sent an email out earlier this afternoon saying tickets in the Akron allotment are now on sale. $175 each.

The secret to Calhoun's success for sure! -
Shammah Scott needs 8 points to reach 1,000 for his career.

Akron was definitely feeling the pressure of being the team that had something to lose this past weekend once Miami lost. The script flips on Friday. As we are the team with nothing to lose. we were playing with Purdue and even ahead the first eight minutes of the game before their size overwhelmed us. I don’t think T tech can over power us. with that being said, I don’t think our guards can stop their guards. So it’s gonna be a track meet whoever shoots better wins… I thought the same thing last year against Arizona as they were not a bunch of trees and then they dominated us defensively an shut us down completely.

I will be looking to see which team scores more points. That should determine the outcome.

I was devastated that night when the news broke. There have only been two Zips teams I felt could legitimately make a run in the tournament. The 2012-2013 and 2019-2020. Abreu weed shipment and Covid ended those dreams.

Summer of 2024 i believe YSU spent @2 million to replace ALL the seats at Beegly center with new chairbacks floor to ceiling on the sides. The Zildjen family paid a big chunk of the cost. Beegly and Rhodes arenas are very similar. That reduced seating from 6300 to 4633. Central Michigan's Rose arena was also very similar. Retractable bleachers upstairs, chairs down. They did a sizable renovation ,(20 million in 2010) that increased seating from 5200 to 5300 utilizing angled seating in corners. It was a nice facility with cushioned theater seats everywhere but endzones, though it did not have a centerhung scoreboard -

I think they play in bandboxes, high school level gyms and barns all season then they hit a big time arena that doesn't give them the opportunity to practice in the facility or have a meaningful shoot around, and it takes time to adjust. I think that's a factor in the MAC tourney shooting. -
It won't be MAC refs in Dayton!
-
That's quite a hot take. Aiming instead of shooting?
