If you want to eliminate all MAC sports that don't make a profit, there will be no Mac sports.
-
The MAC isn't exactly a well run organization. What if they tell Akron to leave and take their basketball program with them? The major problem with Nihilism is the is never a consideration for what comes next. Your second paragraph isn't in the world of reality. The answer for the MAC is not to abandon football. The answer is to find ways to make it financially viable for the members that will benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general communities around the schools. Start with no more weeknight games and start games at times that make them more family friendly considering games last 3.5+ hours now. Make it a college athletics experience and not a television show. The answer for Akron is to use our new AD to help influence a new direction for the member institution.

Yup. 100% of the MAC programs lose money on Football, and there's a bunch of perennial losers (CMU, Ball St., Kent St., EMU) that cannot make sense to continue this farce. Even the programs that have "success" how strained are they financially to continue this farce?

They may also find they have some allies in similarly situated programs in the conference.
-
Call the MAC's bluff. Soccer is already not in the MAC, and you think the MAC is going to turn away their premium Basketball program? But the teams are incharge of the MAC, so all the universities need to pull together and decide football is not a winning proposition for any of them anymore.

I think it had potential to be a fairly decent G5 job 10-20 years ago for all the perks you mentioned above. Akron was getting the IPF, new stadium, talent rich area, rapidly growing campus, etc. The problem is the landscape of college sports has vastly changed over the past several years. At the same time enrollment has plummeted, causing financial strain to a University that took on too much debt falsely believing they were positioned to be the next Cincinnati.

💯but for me substitute ‘entire system’ for league and ‘created by NIL and the NCAA’ for ‘weeknight games’ I can barely bring myself to watch any college football.

Early Football Previews and Predictions: Game Three at UAB

I think Akron has a chance to generate points in this one. Not sure Finley's passes get points for the Zips or Blazers, but there will be points scored with the Zips offense on the field. -

UAB won but gave up 42 to Alabama State. Very good chance that we head into this game looking for our first points on the season. Good to know that the UAB defense isn’t the 85 Bears. -
A problem I see with Akron is what happens when the coach you hire sees behind the curtain. From the outside looking in, Akron looks like a great opportunity. Great stadium, great training facility, location that allows them to recruit well...and then....

What would you like to do with the rest of the teams?

this loss was bad, don't recall many shutouts....for me that will always be iCoach going for 2 and losing to a IAA team in OT.
