Has anybody looked at parking in the Gateway garage? I'm seeing $35 even on Wednesday. It used to be $20 or so. WTF?
-
Apparently he attended a Marshall basketball game a few days ago. He must be making his stops, catching up with old friends.
- Today

Seems he was here for a game when he was heavily recruiting a couple of Cleveland kids, but I can't recall when. I know he's been to several FB games in the suites, again when he was in the area recruiting. Haven't seen/heard much of him since he was let go at WVU. Hopefully all is well and his weight is down. Great guy. Great coach.

I was thinking 12 teams with 2 teams from each G6. Round 1 would be the conference championship game and the teams would be reseeded after. The playoffs would come to an end right when the CFP begin so it doesn't have to worry about competing directly with it.
-
Feels absurd, but if the ACC can do it I guess.
-
Nah. 12 regular season and 16-32 whatever for the playoffs is going to be the end game. For G6 probably would be 16, but depends on how many teams are in the G6.
-
How about just 16? I hate to even say this because it could come true. Are we eventually going to get to the point where we have an excessively short regular season just to accommodate more playoff games?
-
Agree! What a naive comment from someone (OP) who either isn’t wise on basic level investing or is not in tune with what most of the country is going through right now in terms of struggles with the job market and inflation. There has been no public info on what Nate has majored in or what degree he got from Akron that I’ve seen but the average starting salary for a UA graduate is $69K before taxes. Average annual salary for a mid-level MBB player overseas is $50-150K a year, for the top players it could be between $200-300K year. ~60% of US born players overseas earn under $75K a year. You were saying?
-
I think the top 8 will stay the same, but not necessarily the order. 2 games currently separate the 4 and 8 seed, and tiebreaker can get wild in multi-team ties.
-
8 of the last 10 games for UMass have finished as one-score margins of victory or defeat.
-
What about travel to Cali? I’m hearing the mutual exploration/courtship between Sac St and the MAC is more reality than rumor. That doesn’t mean it will happen but there are definitely conversations being had.
-
Actually, minus a couple of quality upsets, I don't see the Top 8 in order being different by the end of the season. That would put Miami vs. Buffalo, the Zips against UMass and Kent vs. BG in the opening round of the MAC Tournament. Considering Miami has had all it could handle vs. UB in two last second wins, and the same with Kent vs. BG with a road games between the two yet to play, Akron's game vs. UMass could be just as dicy, or the easiest of the three, depending on the game Friday. No matter what, would not surprise me to see an upset or two in the MAC Tournament -- and a surprise team in the MAC Final.
-
I'll never blame Nate for taking that money. I will laugh at KSU for paying Nate Johnson that much money.

Checking in on Some Former Zips
Captain Kangaroo replied to Zippy87's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Nate’s mom was giddy when she learned that Nate would get an extra free year of education if he redshirted. I have to believe she about exploded when Nate told her he’d clear a million for 8 months “work” in Manhattan. -
A little over $1mm after tax. That invested in the stock market will double approximately every 8 years on average. At worst he’s set up for retirement, but would have $10mm+ by then. He’s set up in a spot to no longer worker after his professional playing career is over if he doesn’t want to.

K State has the finest collection of black velvet Elvises in the state of Kansas.

IMO this just comes off as a coach trying to deflect the blame from himself. I don't follow KSU basketball, but this will be his 3rd straight losing season in conference play and 3rd straight year of missing the big dance. He's solely responsible for assembling this roster so if he's not happy with the players on his team frankly he has nobody to blame but himself.
-
“They don’t love this place” The place they just showed up to 4 months ago? Yeah, no $h!t.
-
I wouldn't see why this proposed playoff would need 24 or 32 teams. The main CFP only has 12 to begin with. No need for G6 to have more than that.
-
To the extent we're not way past this point, we are now at this point where there needs to be a G6 playoff. If worried about "number of postseason teams," make it 24 or 32 teams and do home games for the higher seed (since the bowls aren't gonna matter). Something tells me a playoff game at Waldo would have drawn better than the 9K in Myrtle Beach, even if it were cold. Obviously there's some moving parts with TV availability and such, but I would think this is a net positive financially for the G6 than the bowls are (even if you averaged out the loss of the ESPN Invitational spot/s)...at the very least you're losing half the travel since someone would be at home.

Yes, you either carefully curate your collection OR you throw a bunch of expensive paintings on the wall and call it a museum

He'll be so surprised at the changes made to the JAR since he coached here. Or not.
-
Anyone know the last time Huggins made an appearance at the JAR for a game? I imagine it has to have been quite some time as I don't recall hearing about it and I'm sure he was too busy while coaching at WVU.

Exactly, too much money to go around, not enough players worth the money. Paying guys to be difference makers, but in reality they're at best role players at the elevated level.
