  1. Past hour
  2. I’m sure he thought the same thing. When you enter the portal there’s a decent chance there isn’t a pot of gold at the end. Sometimes it’s a smelly old CSU jersey.
  3. I see where Harris signed with Cleveland State ... interesting. Thought he would get some A-10, Mo-Valley looks. Even other MAC looks. He didn't play much for Zips due to injury, but his West Virginia resume was pretty solid before that.
  4. Today
  5. They can use the tables abandoned from the training tables.
  6. I'm not sure to be honest. From what I read the 4 hours of reduced practice time is supposed to be replaced with 4 hours of mandatory study tables.
  7. Started almost every game at LT for N. Alabama last year. PFF graded him solidly as a pass protector.
  8. Honestly, it should be pretty easy to work around. For instance, if it's just two hours a week, players could easily warm themselves up for 15 minutes without coaches on the field and then do a "voluntary" lift for another 15 minutes. Something along those lines. It really shouldn’t make much of a difference. And if the APR ruling ends up going to court, all this back-and-forth is pointless anyway.
  9. Comical he post a pic of Jerseys WE CAN'T BUY Would be nice if we could huh Shouldn't be easier to cop a Ohio State jersey than a Zips Jersey in Akron. Would be nice if the team store actually had team merch in stock How about start with that AD
  10. I've always wondered who even monitors this kind of thing for compliance? Seems like it would be easy to just practice/meet as much as you want to.
  11. I think kreed makes a good point, but I always fall back on what a failure it turns out to be when Akron makes unilateral decisions. Schools like Akron, and there are a lot of us, need to come together and figure out what the next steps are. I've said this for years now. Maybe an association of MAC schools and those in the Pioneer who simply don't want to shell out the money for scholarships for football and continue the humiliation of playing P4 teams just to stay afloat. What if it's just as simple as changing the MAC bylaws to eliminate scholarships for football and form a national alliance? What if it's as simple as having a large non-scholarship D1 football league? BTW, if they accepted this solution, there is a good chance the financial problem would get worse. Speaking of season tickets, I'm considering not renewing my Wake Forest tickets. Last year, four of the seven home games started after 6:30. One was on a Thursday night and another on a Friday night. I didn't even bother going. I disdain night college football games. They already have a Thursday game scheduled against NC State that I have no desire to go to. TV is ruining the college football fan experience. I'll just go to the games I want to that start at a time and day of the week that is convenient to me. I think there will be plenty of tickets to purchase.

  13. Joe Moorhead: [Joe stands up] Well, then, I guess there's only one thing left to do. ZipsNation: What's that? Joe:
  14. It would and could never happen but wouldn't be nice that if the kid didn't hold up his end of the bargain by attending class that he owed the school for a year's tuition?
  15. He certainly emptied the board room quote bucket. He did mention increasing attendance and community engagement which could certainly help in several ways.
  16. Yesterday
  17. Doesn't really matter. BG is legit, loaded, and lethal next season.
  18. Thanks for the kind words. I can’t get on as much as I use to, or get out to the games as often, but there’s always a lot to find here.
  19. Six wins & hypothetical bowl eligibility. Beat KSUcks & Ohio. Hate to say it but maybe the players are individually motivated to play well enough to go earn NIL somewhere else? This sucks.
  20. It would be sound to say, "Post Season Success" is what Akron is looking for. That might equate to a NCAA Tournament victory ... a 2 or 3-game run in the NIT ... or a championship run in whatever post season tournament the Zips choose to play in. The key here, no matter NCAA, NIT, Whatever, is to get into a 'one-and-done tournament vs. teams you probably don't know,... and rise above. Beating MAC teams you play 3-times a year, and beat, kind of loses its luster over 5-10 years, when that is as far as you get, year after year.
  21. It's similar to Dambrot's, "All that matters is winning the MAC attitude." It's precisely why he never won an NCAAT game here. The standards were too low. If you are consistently competing for the MACC and half the time winning it, the standards have to be higher, and that entails winning a game or two in the NCAAT.
  22. I’m curious how a kid who basically quits school mid semester because they are transferring would be able to retain their eligibility..
  23. What about the idea that if a player enters the portal in december or april, the team that picks him up will take on the academic stats of that player from the fall semester. that way if a kid knows they are leaving, they still have to maintain academic quality to get picked up by another team.
  24. I've been lurking for the past few years, not posting at all and just an occasional visit to the site when I want to learn the real story of what's happening in U of A Sports, since there is no legacy media reporting unless you want to pay for the ridiculous Beacon, although when they do write, Brad Bourneval and Mike Bevin do a nice job. I can always count on @TennZip, @Hilltopper, @clarkwgriswold, @72Roo @Spinand @Blue & Gold to give great insights to the Zips programs. Any-hoo, I wanted to take a moment to recognize both Softball and baseball. I went over to Firestone Stadium this past week and joined the "dozens" of Zip fans and a teeny sliver of administration folk to watch the women play. They made Akron proud, in my opinion. They battled back after a lethargic start and was competitive going forward. Great coaching by Coach Nicholson, and, although not on the level with Miami or Ohio, still a wash with the other three teams. Way to go Zips! And baseball...it may look like it's the same ol' - same ol', but I watched a lot of their games and they too have improved, and Coach Faulds has done a nice job with what he has to work with. The major difference, once again in my opinion, is they need at least another power hitter, and as always, pitching hurt. If they could get two strong starters, and one more closer, they could be in the hunt for a tournament slot in the next two seasons. Anyway, just wanted to post something about the men and women who go pretty much un-noticed on campus and in then news. Go Zips!
